How To Use OverDrive using the Kobo Vox

1 This guide will show you how to: Note: 1. Install the OverDrive Media Console App 2. Configure OverDrive Media Console 3. Authorize the Kobo Vox 4. Locate and download an ebook 5. Return an ebook early 6. Delete an ebook Through out this guide we will refer to the three buttons on the Kobo Vox; the back button, the options button, and the home button (as shown below). These buttons are always available as they are not on the screen but on the bottom of the device. 2 Install the OverDrive Media Console App 1. Most apps are installed using the App market for the Kobo Vox however the OverDrive Media Console is an exception. 2. From your home screen click on Browser. Page 2 of 25

3 3. Click on the address bar at the top of the Browser. When the on screen keyboard comes up enter and click Go. 4. The Browser will then load a webpage from the OverDrive website where you can download the OverDrive Media Console App. On this page make sure Android is selected and then click on download OverDrive Media Console for Android by OverDrive. 4 5. This will bring up the licensing agreement page. Click on the I Agree button at the bottom of the page. 6. The OverDrive Media Console app will download in the background (as you can see from the download icon located in the top left corner). Pull the notification screen down by running your finger from the top of the device to the bottom. Page 4 of 25

When the download for the app (ODMediaConsoleSetup.apk) is complete click on it to install the app. If you receive a message stating Install Blocked continue steps 8-15 otherwise skip directly to step If you get the 'Install blocked' message when you try to install OverDrive's mobile app for Android, tap Settings. Otherwise, from your home screen, tap the Menu button, then Settings. Page 5 of 25

6 9. From the 'Settings' screen, go to 'Applications'. Tap the check next to Unknown Sources.. Note: Tapping Settings while trying to install an app sends you directly to the 'Applications' screen. 10. Review the 'Attention' message. Tap OK to continue. Page 6 of 25

7 11. Make sure there is a check in the Unknown sources box. Tap your Home button. 12. Open the Android web browser. Page 7 of 25

8 13. Tap the Options button. Tap More to display more menu options. 14. Tap Downloads to open your 'Download history'. Page 8 of 25

9 15. Locate and tap ODMediaConsoleSetup.apk. You will find the file listed under the day you downloaded it. 16. The Kobo Vox will then ask for permission to install the app. Click Install. Page 9 of 25

10 17. When the installation is complete click Open. Configure OverDrive Media Console 18. When the application starts for the first time a What s New screen will be shown. To prevent this screen from being displayed in the future uncheck Show at start-up and then click Close. Page 10 of 25

11 19. Click the options button, located between the back and home buttons at the very bottom of your device, and then Get Books. 20. Click Add a Library. Page 11 of 25

12 21. Click in the search box and type Mississauga and then click the orange search button. 22. Click on ANY Mississauga Library Branch. Page 12 of 25

13 23. Click on the greyed out star. This should change the star to yellow. Click the options button, located between the back and home buttons at the very bottom of your device, and then Bookshelf to take you back to the home screen of the app. Authorizing the Kobo Vox 24. Click the options button, located between the back and home buttons at the very bottom of your device, and then App Settings. Page 13 of 25

14 25. Scroll down the screen until you seee the Adobe ID field under ebook options. If you have an Adobe ID skip to step 21. In the likely event you do not have an Adobe ID, select Get a Free Adobe ID. 26. The Browser will start and load an Adobe web page. Click Create an Adobe Account. Page 14 of 25

15 27. Fill in the form to create an Adobe Account. Note that you only have to fill in fields with an asterisk (*) at the end. 28. When finished click the grey continue button near the bottom right hand corner of the page. When the signup process is completee there will be a thank you page. 29. To return to the App Settings in OverDrive Media Console click the Home button, then All Apps, then OverDrive Media Console. The app should bring you back to the App Settings. If not, click the Options button followed by App Settings. Page 15 of 25

16 30. Enter your Adobe ID and Password and then click Authorize. When finished the Authorize button disappear. Locate and download an ebook 31. Open the OverDrive Media Console app. should change to Deauthorize and the Get a free Adobe ID button should Page 16 of 25

17 32. When the app finishes loading click the options key. 33. Select Get Books. Page 17 of 25

18 34. Select elibrary Download Centre. 35. Either browse or search for an item to download. When one is found select Add to ecart. If the only option given is to Place ehold it is because the item is not currently available. Page 18 of 25

19 36. Select Proceed to Checkout. 37. Login if necessary. Selecting Remember me on this device will remove this requirement in the future. Page 19 of 25

20 38. Select your choice in lending period and press Confirm checkout. 39. Click Download. Page 20 of 25

21 40. The item in question will be downloaded to the device and then displayed upon the menu. 41. Done! Page 21 of 25

22 Return an ebook Early 1. Open the OverDrive Media Console app. 2. Select the book you wish to return. Page 22 of 25

23 3. Click Options, then Delete. 4. Select Return then Delete. 5. Done! Page 23 of 25

24 Delete an ebook 1. Open the OverDrive Media Console app. 2. Select the book you wish to return. Page 24 of 25
