2 Kindle Fire / OverDrive App Getting started is Easy 1. Install all required device updates. 2. Install the OverDrive App frm the App stre n yur device. 3. Sign up fr an OverDrive Accunt/Adbe ID 4. Add a Library. 5. Brwse, Brrw and Dwnlad. Supprted Frmats: Adbe EPUB ebks Open EPUB ebks OverDrive MP3 Audibks Nte: PDF ebks are nt supprted by the OverDrive App. T enjy PDF ebks, transfer via USB (frm a cmputer) is required. Install the OverDrive App 1. G t the App Stre n yur device. 2. Tap Search and then search fr OverDrive. 3. Tap Install. Authrize with an OverDrive Accunt/Adbe ID The first time yu launch the OverDrive App r attempt t dwnlad an ebk, yu will be prmpted t Sign In/Sign Up fr an OverDrive Accunt r Sign In with an Adbe ID. When yu create an accunt n yur device, it will autmatically authrize yur device s yu can start reading ebks right away. Yu may als authrize the mst up-t-date versin f the OverDrive app (3.5) with an Adbe ID, but we recmmend using yur OverDrive Accunt t authrize instead. Nte: When yu create an accunt, yu'll be asked t verify yur address. T cmplete the prcess, click the link we send yu in yur verificatin . 2

3 If yu have an Adbe ID: If yu dn t have an Adbe ID: Launch the OverDrive App. Launch the OverDrive App. Tap Sign In. Tap Register at Adbe.cm. Enter yur Adbe ID and passwrd. Set up an Adbe ID (requires a valid address). Tap Authrize. G back t the OverDrive App. Tap Sign In. Enter yur Adbe ID and passwrd. Tap Authrize. Nte: If the Adbe Sign-in screen is n lnger available, g t the App settings t authrize. T Add a Library 1. Tap Get Bks. 2. Tap Add a Library. 3. Enter a library name, city r zip cde. 4. Tap Search. 5. Select a lcal library frm the search results. 6. Tap the Star symbl t save the library. Kindle Fire / OverDrive App T Brwse / Search 1. Launch the OverDrive App. 2. Select Get Bks frm the menu ptins. Frm the Bkshelf, select Get Bks. Frm the Get Bks screen, select yur saved library. Brwse: By frmat r ppular categries. Search: By keywrd r use Advanced Search t limit search results. 3

4 Where s Advanced Search? Tap Advanced Search r the magnifying glass icn Click Advanced Search under the search bar Select Kindle Bk as yur frmat in the search frm that pens. Click n a title t pen its details page. Then click Brrw and g t yur bkshelf. 4

Place a Hld: All cpies are currently checked ut. Nte: When brrwing, remember t select the apprpriate frmat fr yur needs. Library Lending Plicies / Brrw Yu can brrw up t 20 titles. Titles are autmatically remved. T find items yu have brrwed: Open the OverDrive App. Frm the Hme screen: Tap Accunt. Next, Tap Checkuts. 5

6 Kindle Fire / OverDrive App Early Return 1. Open the OverDrive App 2. Navigate t yur Bkshelf. 3. Tap and hld a title t display the return ptins. 4. Tap Return r Delete. Return returns and deletes bk frm yur device. Delete deletes bk but yu will still have it checked ut t yur library accunt. Nte: Yu can renew a brrwed title if n ther users are n hld fr that title. The renewal ptin becmes available n a user s Bkshelf three days befre the title is scheduled t expire. Titles can nly be renewed nce. 6

7 Kindle Fire / OverDrive App Library Lending Plicies / Hlds Hlds Up t 20 titles can be placed n hld at ne time. Yu will receive an when the item becmes available. Yu have 2 days (exactly 48 hurs) t brrw yur hld. Check the time/date stamp n the hld ntificatin. T Retrieve a Hld: 1. Open the OverDrive App. 2. Frm the Hme screen: Tap Accunt. Next, Tap Hlds. 3. Select the apprpriate title. T Cancel a Hld: 1. Open the OverDrive App. 2. Frm the Hme screen: Tap Accunt. Next, Tap Hlds. Tap Optins (dwnward arrw) Tap Remve Hld 7

8 Kindle Fire / Kindle bks T Brrw Brrw > Dwnlad (Select ne frmat) > Cnfirm & Dwnlad. Get library bk (On Amazn s website). Tap the Hme icn t lcate yur public library Kindle bk. If it desn t appear immediately try syncing the device. Nte: Pay special attentin t the "Available frmats" when brwsing thrugh the cllectin. Due t publisher restrictins, certain titles d nt permit ver-the-air delivery. Fr these titles yu will be required t transfer frm a cmputer via USB. 8

9 Kindle Fire / Kindle bks T Sync yur Kindle Fire Frm the Hme screen tap the Quick Settings icn in the upper-right hand crner f the device, then Tap Sync. This will deliver the Kindle bk t yur device wirelessly. If the device is nt cnnected t Wi-Fi, select the Wi-Fi icn t cnnect t an available Wireless Netwrk. T Transfer a Kindle bk via USB Plug yur Kindle device int the USB prt n yur cmputer. Frm the library s dwnladable page select Kindle Bk. On the Amazn website select Get library bk. When prmpted Save r Save As Save the Kindle bk directly t yur Kindle drive (within the dcuments flder) r Save the Kindle bk t yur cmputer s hard drive, then cpy it nt yur Kindle drive (within the dcuments flder). Eject yur device and enjy. 9

10 Kindle Fire / Kindle bks T Return Kindle Bks Early Lg int yur Amazn accunt via: T Return Select the Actins drp-dwn menu directly acrss frm the public library bk (Aka: digital library) yu wuld like t return, then select Return this bk. On the next screen, select yes t cnfirm. Nte: There is actually n need t return public library digital media titles, because they will simply expire at the lending perid. Hwever, early return is an ptin available fr Kindle bks. 10

11 Kindle Fire / Kindle bks T Delete a Kindle Bk frm yur Kindle Library If yu are sure yu wuld like t permanently remve a public library Kindle bk frm yur Kindle Library, then yu can delete the title via Manage Yur Cntent and Devices. T Delete Select the Actins drp-dwn menu directly acrss frm the public library kindle bk title yu wuld like t delete, then select Delete frm library. On the next screen, select yes t cnfirm. Nte: When deleting items frm yur Kindle library cautin is advised. Purchased cntent will appear next t public library titles in Yur Kindle Library. 11

12 Trubleshting fr the Kindle Fire Scenari: I checked ut a Kindle bk frm the public library, but it wn t deliver t my Kindle device. Slutin: There are a few pssible reasns fr this issue. 1. The Kindle bk was delivered t the wrng Amazn accunt. 2. The Kindle is nt cnnected t the crrect Wi-Fi netwrk r yu may have lst yur Wi-Fi cnnectin. 3. There are publisher restrictins preventing ver-the-air delivery f the title t yur Kindle device. Sme Kindle bks are nt available fr ver-the-air delivery. If ver-the-air delivery is nt available, yu will need t dwnlad the title & transfer via USB. T determine restrictins - lk fr the Available frmats under each frmat listing. Nte: Pay special attentin t the "Available frmats" when brwsing thrugh the cllectin (please see a librarian if yu need assistance selecting a frmat). Due t publisher restrictins, certain titles d nt permit ver-the-air delivery. Fr these titles yu will be required t transfer frm a cmputer via USB. 12

13 Trubleshting fr the Kindle Fire Scenari: When I lad the OverDrive Media website it desn't display crrectly (i.e., it des nt display all cmpatible frmats fr the device). Slutin: Yur Kindle Fire is mst likely set t display the mbile versin fr websites. The slutin invlves changing the way websites display n yur Kindle Fire. T change the display n the Kindle Fire: Frm the Hme screen: Tap Web. Tap n the bttm f the screen, the Optins Bar will display: Tap Menu. Frm the Menu: Tap Settings. Under Saved Data: Clear All Ckie Data. Clear Cache. Under Advanced: Select Desktp r mbile view. Select Desktp: Optimize fr desktp view. 13 MENU

14 Trubleshting fr the Kindle Fire Scenari: Hw d I check fr app updates n the Kindle Fire? Slutin: Frm the Hme screen: Tap Apps. Tap n Stre lcated in the upper right f the screen: Tap Menu. Frm the Menu: Tap My Apps. Tap Update Available. A list f all apps that have updates will be displayed. Tap Update next t each app yu want t update: Each update will be installed ne at a time, but several apps can be added t the update queued up. Nte: When all apps n the device are updated the page will display N Apps t Update. Prblems with the OverDrive App? Try the fllwing: Uncheck Accelerate Page Lading in the brwser settings.+ Clear yur brwser s cache r temprary internet files, clse and repen the brwser and navigate t the emedia hme page.
