1 emedia Library Digital Audiobooks Overview You can check out and download the following types of digital materials at this website OverDrive WMA Audiobooks OverDrive MP3 Audiobooks To access these digital materials you need A valid library card Internet access A computer or device that meets the system requirements for the type(s) of digital materials you wish to check out Free software for the computer or device on which you wish to use the materials available at this site Step 1 - Download and install free software As a first step, you need to download and install the free software that allows you to enjoy the type(s) of materials you are interested in. To check out OverDrive titles, you need OverDrive Media Console. You can download it here: Coal City Public Library District 1

2 Click on the download button once the computer type has been chosen: In the library, you will see this screen once the download is complete. Click on the small diskette to download. You will now choose Run to install the program: Coal City Public Library District 2

3 Choose run again: You will now begin the installation: Agree to the license agreement and continue to hit Next : Continue by choosing Next : Coal City Public Library District 3

4 Once installation is complete hit Close : Step 2 - Activate the software After you have installed the software that you downloaded, you need to take steps to activate the software before downloading digital materials. Choose the Overdrive Media Console from the desktop: OverDrive Media Console requires a security upgrade. OverDrive Media Console utilizes Windows Media Player 9 Series (or newer) to play DRM-protected files. The first time that Windows Media Player attempts to open a DRM-protected file, it will alert you that a security upgrade must be performed before the file may be opened. The upgrade takes just a few moments, and must be performed before Microsoft Windows Media Player will play any DRM-protected files. Coal City Public Library District 4

5 The security upgrade can be done by clicking on Tools-> Windows Media Security Upgrade Once complete you are ready to choose books! Step 3 - Check out, download, and enjoy Browse or search this site for downloadable materials. When you locate a title of interest, add it to the digital basket and check out the title. Once you have checked out a title, a download page is displayed. Click the 'Download' link to start the download. Once the download is complete, open and enjoy the title. You will never accrue late fees with titles you download from this website. At the end of the loan period, titles will expire and be automatically 'returned' to the library. At this time, you can delete the expired file(s) from your computer. Choose your title and click on Add to Digital Basket: Coal City Public Library District 5

6 You can add more than one but once you are ready to Checkout click on Proceed to Checkout : You will need to enter your library, your library card number, and PIN, click Login: Note: it may error out, go back and re-enter your PIN You may change your lending period (7 day or 14 day) and click Confirm check out : Coal City Public Library District 6

7 You have now checked out the book and will need to Download it: The console will prompt you to save the file, click OK: It will then ask about parts click OK if you want the entire book: Coal City Public Library District 7

8 You will know the book is downloading by checking here: Once the book has been downloaded, you can play or transfer to a device. If you are transferring to a device you, make sure your device is plugged in and click on Transfer: You will continue to hit Next : Coal City Public Library District 8

9 And it will give you a progress bar on the status of the Transfer: Once complete, click Finish : Explore your options Search for digital materials using a variety of criteria on the advanced search page. To go to the advanced search page, click here. Take digital materials with you on-the-go. Many audio titles can be burned to CD, and most audio titles can be transferred to supported portable devices. If you come across a title that you are interested in checking out, you can add it to your 'Wish List'. For more information on your 'Wish List', click here. If you find a title that a friend would enjoy, you can easily recommend the title to him/her. Just click the 'Recommend this title to a friend! Click here.' link on the title's page.
