1 How to Download Audiobooks and Transfer them to your Audio Listening Device (Macintosh) Before you begin: o Make sure your device is compatible with ebooks, Audiobooks and the OverDrive system: o Make sure the following software programs are installed and up to date on your computer: Java: Adobe Flash: Apple Macintosh updates: 1. Go to the Mid-York Library System website at and click on MYlibrary2Go: 2. 2 3. When the OverDrive web site opens, select Macintosh under Desktop and click DOWNLOAD NOW : 4. Save the file to your computer (remember where you saved it your desktop? Documents? Downloads?). If your computer is set to automatically launch the installer after the download is complete, then you can skip step 5 and go right to step Double-click the newly downloaded file: ODMediaConsoleSetup.dmg, open the new drive on your desktop called OverDrive Media Console 1.1 and launch the Macintosh installer package OMC Installer.pkg How to Download Audiobooks and Transfer them to your Audio Listening Device; rev.12/13/10 Page 2

Click Close to complete the installation: Now let s download an Audiobook to your new OverDrive software so it can be transferred to your digital audio listening device (visit this web page to make sure your device is compatible with OverDrive: Also, keep in mind that the Macintosh version of OverDrive is not yet able to work with Audiobooks in the WMA format. Presently you will only be able to download MP3 format Audiobooks using OverDrive on your Mac (you can, however, use a Windows computer to download and transfer WMA format Audiobooks to your listening device). 11. Go back to the Mid-York Library System web page and log in. 12. Find an Audiobook you want to check out and click on Add to cart (use the Advanced Search tool to search for only MP3 format Audiobooks or click on the left column link View all MP3 Audiobooks ). If this is your only selection, click on Proceed to Checkout. 13. Click on the button, then the button. 6 14. If your download window opens looking like this: 15. Double-click the OverDrive icon (it has the atom looking icon with a green arrow). If you are prompted to open the file, select Open : How to Download Audiobooks and Transfer them to your Audio Listening Device; rev.12/13/10 Page 6

7 16. Select OK in the MidYork Get Media window to save the file to the location shown: 17. Select the parts of the Audiobook you want to download and click OK to start the download:. 18. Observe the status bar at the bottom-left of your screen: Wait until all parts of the Audiobook are complete. 8 19. Once the Audiobook download is complete, make sure your audio device is plugged into your computer with its USB cable (follow your audio device manual if you need help doing this). Click once to highlight the book you want to transfer, and click the Transfer button: 20. 9 21. Make sure your audio device is listed next to Player: (if you have multiple devices plugged into your computer, you may see a pull-down menu. Select the device that will accept Audiobooks), select the parts of the Audiobook that you want to transfer and click Next 22. Monitor the audio file transfer. After the transfer is complete, review the informational window and click Finish Your audio listening device will now have the new Audiobook on it ready for listening!
