1 Chapter 28: Creating a profile for the Extrude Shape command Launch MasterChef from the icon on your desktop. Note: If you are using a demo version, once loaded the program, a message will notify the remaining days of the evaluation period. If you are in possession of the licence of the software, make sure you have inserted and installed the USB hardware key that came with the licence to use the software. From the main toolbar of the PDM module of MasterChef click on the New DWG button at the top. Pag. 1

2 In order to create our profile, for example a dry bench, we have first of all to create the 3D profile and then 2D lines and nodes for our 2D plan view. We suppose that our insertion point (base point) is the 0,0,0 and, as we know that the insertion height of the bench could be variable, we ll draw the 3D shape on the ZERO level, this means the customer will set the height from the zero level directly into the ExtrudeShape command. 3D Shape Open your MasterChef CAD session and change your point of view into LEFT. In order to use the shape from left to right, we will start drawing the blench from left to right beginning with the back splash and ending with the front. Remind that, in order to create closed polyline, circle or ellipse for the 3D, you always need entities that can be extruded by AutoCAD. The layer they are related with will be important for the association of materials during the rendering, for this reason, as in this case we are creating a dry bench, all the polylines will be on the layer 200-EquipSteel-3D. As you can see, the 0,0,0 base point is on the left side on the top of our bench and the entire shape is made by a closed polyline. Now we ll start drawing the back splash always with a closed polyline. Pag. 2

3 As you can see in the small picture, first of all we have created a polyline and then an offset of 1 mm to simulate the thickness of the stainless steel. 2D Shape Now, in order to create our 2D shape, we come back in the South-West point of view with our UCS set to WORLD, in this way it will be quite easy to create our line and to insert all the points. From this view we create a line, into the layer 200-EquipBorder-2D, from the point 0,0,0 to the perpendicular of the bottom edge of our bench. In my MasterChef I changed the default colors of the layers to be able to recognize all the lines. This line will be used by the ExtrudeShape command to start and close the 2D plan view, the next horizontal lines will be created using a point as reference. In each point that we ll add to our shape, the command will generate an horizontal line or polyline, for this reason we add some points over the 2D line. Pay attention that the layer of the points is very important because it will be used as the layer of the next line; below you can see the example for our dry bench in which I added 2 points on the layer 200-EquipBorder-2D next to the extremities of our line (I used the red color) and others point, you can see in yellow, into the layer 200-EquipInternal-2D to simulate the next internal lines. Note: help yourself to see better the point adjusting their style with the Point Style command into the Format menu. Pag. 3

4 In correspondence to the middle point of our main 2D line we ll insert an additional point created on the layer 200- InsPoint-3D (in my sample you can see it in green); this will permit the command to understand the barycenter of our shape. Note: once you have finished drawing your shape, we suggest you to purge your dwg deleting all the layers, styles, dimensions, blocks that are not necessary using the AutoCAD Purge command. Another important point is to save your shape into 2004 dwg file format to permit all the customers, independently on their AutoCAD version, to open it. Pag. 4

5 How to add the personal shape into the main DB After this you can use this shape with our ExtrudeShape command, with the option User Shape or create your personal shape library into the shapes folder, normally: C:\Users\Public\Roaming\RenderImage\MSC4\CAD\Lib\shapes In this folder you will find some *.Lib files that you can open with Ms Excel, please make a copy of one of them and rename it as you want, the Extrudeshape command will load automatically; don t delete or change the first row, it s only the field s name. u 00Slide descr dwg m start block SSDryBench70-1 S/S Dry Bench with Upstand 700x18 SSDryBench end block Each field means: 00Slide: it s the name of the preview slide (what we show into the command to choose the right shape to the user), this file will be generated using the AutoCAD command Mslide ; normally the name of the slide is the same of the dwg shape, don t type here the extension of the file. Descr: the description of your shape Dwg: the name of the dwg shape, here I used SSDryBench70-1, don t type here the extension of the file. UM: it s the unit of measurement, 1 = millimeters, 10 = centimeters, 1000 = meters, 25.4 = inch start block: it s an optional additional block you want to insert attached to the starting point of the shape, normally on the left side, to close the 3D model end block: it s an optional additional block you want to insert attached to the ending point of the shape, normally on the right side, to close the 3D model.
