3 HELPDESK Network Registration Guide What is remediation? The status your computer is in when it is quarantined from the network. You must verify your identity as an Arcadia Student and meet certain prerequisites such as, Windows Updates, Bradford Persistent Agent, and a recognized antivirus program (i.e. Symantec). In short, to register your computer on the network you need: An Arcadia user name and password Your username is typically your first initial followed by your last name. (I.e. John Doe = jdoe) Your default password is typically your last name follow by the last four digits of your social security number Bradford Persistent Agent Windows Updates This is by far the most time consuming part of the remediation process. Installing these updates is mandatory. And should be done immediately. Recognized anti-virus software Be careful of trial software. When it expires you will no longer be able to use the network. Registering with the Arcadia's Network. Connect to the AUWIFI wireless network or plug in your computer. Once connected. Open Internet Explorer. It should take you to a page asking for a hardware description, your Arcadia user name, and password. Select your hardware type. If the hardware is a gaming console please check out the instructions under the "Technology" tab in MyArcadia.

Once you click OK, you will be prompted to download Bradford Persistent Agent. Click Run. Another dialogue box will pop up soon afterward click Run again.

Keep clicking through until the installation is completed. You will then be prompted for your username and password again before Bradford starts scanning your system to see if it meets the network prerequisites.

5 The scan should take approximately 1 to 5 min. Once the scan is completed. It will cut you from the network for about 30 seconds. Now that you have been moved to the Remediation VLAN your browser will automatically redirect your web page to the Campus Manger page to assist you with your network registration.

6 This will bring you to the Campus Manager Remediation Center page. It is the only page that your browser will access besides Windows Updates and my.arcadia.edu. Click on the Student Policy link for further registration instructions. After clicking on the Student Policy link you will receive further information as to what step you must take to proceed with your registration. It shows we need Operating System:: XP Critical and Security Updates. Clicking on the link of your respective registration ailment will give you further information as to how to best reconcile your computer with the network.

*Please be sure to have your computer's power adapter plugged in.

7 How to get windows updates. * Click on the Start button located on the bottom left hand corner of your screen. When the menu pops up, click on Help and Support it will have a round blue icon with a white question mark in the center. *Please be sure to have your computer's power adapter plugged in. Not only will that help your updates install faster but it will also ensure that a sudden loss of power won't occur during the update process. Next, Click on the Keep your computer up-to-date with Windows Update link located under the Pick a Task heading.

8 Click Install on any dialogue boxes that pop up. They are just installing software so that Microsoft can figure out what updates you need. Once you get through that just click Express. This will give you a list of the most urgent updates that your computer needs.

9 After clicking Express you will get a screen showing that Windows is checking for the latest updates. After the check is complete, you will see a list of all the updates you have left. Each and every one of these must be downloaded to connect to the Arcadia Network. Click install updates to start the updates process.

10 A dialogue box like the one below will show your update progress. This may take some time. Please be sure to have your computer's power adapter plugged in. Not only will that help your updates install faster but it will also ensure that a sudden loss of power won't occur during the update process. When the updates are complete, click Restart Now. Once you computer restarts just start at the beginning of the process (Clicking Help and Support ) and check if there are any updates left. If there are, install them and then restart the computer again. I there aren't, restart the computer once more to double check that all updates are completed. It is not unusual to have upwards of 60 updates, taking hours to finish, and to restart the machine 5-6 times till they are all completed. Finishing these updates before going to HelpDesk will save valuable time for both parties and allow us to solve your registration issues that much faster.

11 Congratulations! Your updates appear to finally be completed. If this is your first time seeing this page, please restart your machine once more and double check that all your updates are completed before moving on to the next step.

Installing Symantec. Now that Windows Updates are completed, open Internet Explorer and Click the Rescan button found on the Campus Manager Remediation Center page again.

After your scan is completed if you may get another You computer did not pass requirements message. When you check your browser again you will see which requirement you failed. Assuming you have all your window's Updates completed, it is usually a lack of recognized Anti Virus software such as: AVG, ClamWin, Norton, Symantec, McAfee, Avira, Avast etc.

After clicking the top Antivirus link you will get this page. Should they not have their own Arcadia provides it's students with Symantec Antivirus.

Click on the Symantec Anti-Virus Client for Microsoft Windows link below. When prompted to Save or Run. Click Save and pick a location that you are familiar with. Close any prompts that pop up after it downloads.

Look for the Symantec Installation files (it looks like an open periwinkle colored box). Vista users, please right click on the icon and click Run as Administrator. XP user, just double click.

You'll see a progress bar like the one below. When the installation is complete a yellow paper airplane shaped icon will appear on the bottom right-hand side of your screen. To update it's virus definitions, right click on the icon, and click Update Policy.

A dialogue box will pop up updating your Symantec software.

15 Another method to update the definitions is to either double click on the icon or open it via your Start menu, then click LiveUpdate. A dialogue box will pop up updating your Symantec software. After it's installation. Open Internet Explorer and click Rescan to check if you pass requirements.

16 Congratulations!!! You have completed the Network Registration process. A couple more dialogue boxes may pop up to reset you location. But all in all you're done. Please restart your computer once more then feel free to sure and explore the intricacies of the interwebs at your leisure.
