Public Transportation and CPTED A Global Training Company
Public Transportation in the United States United States Transit System Usage and Characteristics: Five hundred fifty-six (556) local public transit operators provided transit services in 408 urbanized areas of over 50,000 population. An additional 1,215 organizations provided transit services in nonurbanized (rural) areas and 3,673 organizations provided specialized services to the elderly and to people with disabilities. In 2006, Americans took 10.1 billion trips on public transportation.
Public Transportation in the United States United States Transit System Usage and Characteristics: This is more than the number of Americans who attended NFL games, MLB games, NBA games, NHL games, NASCAR races, went to the movies, and ate a hamburger from McDonald's, Burger King, and Wendy's combined. Transit ridership growth of 30 percent since 1995 is outpacing both the growth of our population - 12 percent - and the growth in the use of the nation's highways - 24 percent - since then. Each weekday, 34 million trips are made on public transportation in the United States.
Public Transportation in the United States New York City has the most extensive transit system in the country, operated by the Metropolitan Transportation Authority MTA. About one in every three users of mass transit in the United States and two-thirds of the nation's rail riders live in the New York City Metropolitan Area.
Public Transportation in the United States The U.S. Department of Transportation (USDOT) has recognized that system congestion is one of the single largest threats to our nation's economic prosperity and way of life. In 2003, Americans lost 3.7 billion hours and 2.3 billion gallons of fuel sitting in traffic jams as a result of congestion.
Public Transportation in the United States A report by ICF International calculated that public transportation today reduces U. S. gasoline consumption by a total of 1.4 billion gallons of gasoline each year. This means: 108 million fewer cars filling up - almost 300,000 every day. 34 fewer supertankers leaving the Middle East - one every 11 days.
Public Transportation in the United States This means: Over 140,000 fewer tanker truck deliveries to service stations per year. Total savings as great as the entire amount of gasoline consumed in states the size of Nevada, Utah or New Mexico. A savings of 3.9 million gallons of fuel a day.
Public Transportation in the United States In the United States Congress is a bill to fund the federal transit program at no less than the $9.731 billion level authorized in the Safe, Accountable, Flexible, Efficient Transportation Equity Act - A Legacy for Users (SAFETEA-LU, P.L ).
DOT employs almost 60,000 people across the country, in the Office of the Secretary of Transportation (OST) and its operating administrations and bureaus, each with its own management and organizational structure: Office of the Secretary of Transportation (OST) National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) Office of Inspector General (OIG) Federal Highway Administration (FHWA) Pipeline and Hazardous Materials Safety Administration (PHMSA)
DOT employs almost 60,000 people across the country, in the Office of the Secretary of Transportation (OST) and its operating administrations and bureaus, each with its own management and organizational structure: Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration (FMCSA) Research and Innovative Technology Administration (RITA) Federal Railroad Administration (FRA) Saint Lawrence Seaway Development Corporation (SLSDC) Federal Transit Administration (FTA) Surface Transportation Board (STB) Maritime Administration (MARAD)
