Introduction GIZ Corporate Design GIZ s corporate design (CD) is a set of design standards that ensures the company projects a professional and consistent image. It gives the company a distinctive visual profile and encapsulates the various elements of the company s external presentation. For example, the corporate design ensures that GIZ publications are immediately recognisable as such at first glance. When and where to use the corporate design The corporate design is binding, and forms part of GIZ s Orientation and Rules (O+R). Its use is mandatory for all materials produced by the company that serve the purpose of personnel recruitment or the acquisition of new clients or commissioning parties, as well as for business reports and GIZ s own image materials (country brochures). These include publications and electronic presentations, promotional items, business stationery and s, but also cooperation brochures published according to the GIZ corporate design principles by mutual agreement with its partners. The use of corporate design is not mandatory for publications by programmes/projects that are mainly financed by BMZ/the Federal Foreign Office. More details on this are given on the next page. Similarly, the use of GIZ s corporate design is not mandatory for project publications nor for joint publications that are published using the partner s corporate design; the same is true of publications where GIZ is one partner/sponsor among others. However, wherever the GIZ logo is used, the guidelines for the logo must be observed. Updating the GIZ Corporate Design Manual The GIZ Corporate Design Manual is regularly updated and is available online on the intranet under Intranet > Services > Communications > Corporate Design and on the internet (giz.de/cdc). The authoritative version is always the latest online version. Please make sure that you are looking at the updated version before using it to produce a publication. You can see from the table of contents which chapters have been most recently updated. Advice and contact If you have any questions about corporate design, contact our advisory portal for help. Either send an to unternehmenskommunikation@giz.de, or telephone (Mo Fr, 9:00 to 17:00 CET).

Other business areas/special cases Please note that different regulations apply to CIM, AgenZ and other German public-sector clients. For information about the design specifications for CIM, please contact AgenZ also has its own guidelines. For more information, please contact Other German public-sector clients: There are currently no binding rules for foreign publications concerning business with other German public-sector clients. When you are cooperating with other German federal ministries, we recommend the following approach: Inform the Office for Public Sector Clients in Berlin and the Corporate Design Team Suggest to the commissioning party/client that you use the cooperation logo together with the GIZ logo in order to ensure the consistent external presentation of all German public-sector clients. This proposal must then be agreed with the embassy in the partner country and the relevant ministry. If the proposal is rejected, you can consider the following compromise: Use the logo of the appropriate ministry, the new cooperation logo with the agreement of the client and the GIZ logo. At present, use of the cooperation logo is only binding for business with BMZ/the Federal Foreign Office, so it may be the case that other ministries will not join in with this initiative. The ministry s logo must always be preceded by a particular phrase. The Corporate Design Team can advise you on which phrase to use in individual cases. This is another instance where you need to be tactful and diplomatic. If in doubt, accommodate the client s wishes and show some restraint in presenting GIZ. And don t forget to name the client! For publications used in Germany, other rules apply. You can find information on this in the Corporate Design Center at: Notes on joint development cooperation publications: We contribute actively to combined development cooperation publications and are keen to present ourselves jointly with other development organisations. Here, economic cooperation officers must assume responsibility for the publication and its coordination. In the case of priority sectors in a single country, joint development cooperation brochures should be the rule. We must ensure that our clients are also mentioned in the GIZ sections of joint development cooperation brochures.

Overview of how to use the various design specifications Choosing the correct corporate design depends on two factors: how the project is financed, and where the publication will be used. The table below gives an overview of which design must be used when. Scope of application GIZ-CD BMZ-CD German Government CD own layout Business reports, GIZ s own image materials (including country brochures) and materials for personnel recruitment or the acquisition of new clients or commissioning parties All publications that are used in Germany if the programmes/projects receive more than 50% of their funding from Departmental Budget 23 Publications outside Germany by programmes/ projects largely financed by BMZ and/or the Federal Foreign Office Area of use Global Germany Abroad Global By agreement with the partner, projects/programmes can develop their own layout, which must be significantly different from GIZ s Note Publications produced abroad for use in Germany must adopt the BMZ corporate design. The German cooperation logo must always be used. For BMZ/Federal Foreign Office-financed projects/ programmes, the German cooperation logo must be placed at the top left on a white background. Note on factsheets used in Germany and abroad Factsheets that are used both in Germany and abroad must be produced in the relevant design, in other words in the BMZ design for Germany and in the German Government s design for abroad. Note on folders with factsheets from various projects/programmes If you produce a number of factsheets with different financing and you would like to put these together in a single folder, you should choose the appropriate specifications for each factsheet depending on how it is financed, and use GIZ corporate design as the overarching design for the folder.

1.1 The Logo Usage The logo is GIZ s trademark. The form, colour and typeface of the logo are strictly specified. No changes or additions are allowed. Only GIZ Corporate Communications is permitted to design logo (e.g. office logos). No separate logos or logo variants are permitted for projects, sector projects, programmes or divisions. You can download the logos from the Corporate Design Center: > Logos Standard logo with company name (German only) Wherever the name GIZ appears with its logo, this standard variant of the logo must be shown. See also the manual on use of the logo (giz-de-cd-logo-einsatz-2012.pdf, German only). File name: gizlogo-standard-mit-unternehmensname-de Standard size: 10 % of the original file size 13 % of the original file size for gif files GIZ logo without company name This logo can be used in exceptional cases when there is not enough room for the standard logo. If the GIZ logo is positioned next to others (e.g. partner organisations), then the version used depends on the appearance of the page. Third parties could be cooperation partners, agencies, printers etc. Permission must be obtained from the third parties (clients, cooperation partners and others) before their logos are used in GIZ publications. Zip packages are available for: the standard logo with the company name (DE) the logo without the company name (only the letters giz ) GIZ standard logo with the company name and the additional wording implemented by, published by in DE/EN/FR/ES/ AR. 12 1.6 The logo German cooperation logo New German cooperation logo for programmes/projects outside Germany The new standard German cooperation logo is intended to help present the German Government s extensive and diverse commitments abroad in a way that is both consistent and easier to recognise. Since the logo was introduced in January 2013, new binding design guidelines have applied to how the German Government and the state-owned implementing organisations of German international cooperation are presented to the outside world. These mainly concern the use of the logo, but also refer to the overall corporate design. This means that publications and other measures abroad appear in the German Government s corporate design. The logo must be used on printed matter and also on all other forms of external presentation if they relate to projects/programmes that are largely funded from the departmental budgets of the Federal Foreign Office (AA) and/or BMZ. The same applies to projects/programmes funded by other ministries that join this initiative. All the relevant information is available on the intranet: Services > Communications > Corporate design and from the Corporate Design Center: Corporate Design German Federal Government > PR abroad ( Positioning of the GIZ logo alongside the German cooperation logo The GIZ logo is positioned either to the right of or below the German cooperation logo, always with additional wording in the official language of the country (to the left of or above the logo). Implemented by: You can download the GIZ logo including the additional wording from the CDC. It is permissible to produce other wording in different languages, provided the content is accurate (Implemented by/published by/supported by). Implemented by: The French wording mise en oeuvre may be used. Please note the specified relative sizes. Precise details are given in the manual on the German cooperation logo: giz.de/cdc > Corporate Design German Federal Government > PR abroad

3.1 Typefaces and fonts In-house typefaces GIZ has three in-house typefaces: GIZ Gravur Condensed, Arial and Garamond. One of these three typefaces, or in some cases combinations of them, can be used as appropriate, depending on which medium is used, how important the text is or what impact you intend to achieve. GIZ Gravur Condensed Recommendation for GIZ Gravur or Gravur Condensed: GIZ Gravur Condensed is the typeface used for headings, tables and graphics, and for continuous text in publications. It is used in publications designed by graphic designers. The only typeface to be used in combination with it is Garamond. ABCDEFGHIJKLMNOPQRSTUVWXYZ abcdefghijklmnopqrstuvwxyzäöü ;:,.! $ Corporate Design NOTE Typefaces (fonts) are usually subject to copyright. This means that a licence has to be purchased before you can use a certain computer font. Please contact unternehmenskommunikation@giz.de Arial Arial is the PC typeface used at GIZ. It is used for correspondence, forms and publishing on the web. It is also used in Word documents and PowerPoint presentations. ABCDEFGHIJKLMNOPQRSTUVWXYZ abcdefghijklmnopqrstuvwxyzäöü ;:,.! %&/()=?ß*#+-@{} $ NOTE The Arial typeface is pre-installed on almost all computers around the world. There is no need to purchase licences for this typeface. Corporate Design Garamond Recommendation for Adobe Garamond Pro: This is the typeface used for running texts in printed publications. It may be used on its own or in combination. In simple flyers or brochures it may be combined with Arial. In publications that present the corporate image or in lavishly designed publications, Garamond is combined with GIZ Gravur Condensed. ABCDEFGHIJKLMNOPQRSTUVWXYZ abcdefghijklmnopqrstuvwxyzäöü ;:,.! %&/()=?ß*#+-@{} $ IMPORTANT! Typefaces (fonts) are subject to copyright. This means that a licence has to be purchased before you can use a certain computer font. Licences for the Garamond typefaces are available from (among others) Corporate Design

5 Business stationery General guidelines The design of GIZ s business stationery (letterheads, business cards, courtesy cards) is binding; these are classified as official documents. It is not permissible to include logos of other companies or institutions on the business stationery, not even for cofinanced projects. The same applies to any additions beyond the stipulated options allowed for personalisation, or emblems of specialist/professional associations or projects. On headed paper, GIZ must be clearly recognisable as the sender; this is no longer the case if other logos are added. Notes on letter templates in Germany and abroad If you need letterhead stationery on which the partner s logo appears as well as the GIZ logo, you can produce your own letterheads. The GIZ margin column must not be included in this stationery. Please make sure that the sender s address and all relevant contact data are always shown. Please make sure that you always use the latest version of the letter templates. You can generate these in Word: Open Word. Choose File and New My templates GIZ general briefbögen-ausland.dotm or briefbögen-deutschland-brüssel.dotm Click on OK NOTE The letter templates must not be modified in any way, nor is it permissible to integrate the German cooperation logo into the templates. Only GIZ Corporate Communications is permitted to make any modifications to the templates. When you work abroad, please download the letter template here: exe?func=ll&objid= &objaction=browse&viewtype=1. Please do not open it directly from the DMS. A window opens in which you can enter the recipient s data and your own personal data and you can choose the language (de, en, es, fr, pt, ru) If you want the logo to be printed (in case you do not use pre-printed papers) deactivate the box use pre-printed letterhead. The binding additional wording German development cooperation automatically appears in the preselected language on letterheads abroad. Notes on business cards The design of business cards is likewise strictly defined and must not be modified. Staff abroad must have the cooperation logo of the country in question on the back of the card. Please order your business cards from our print shop ( which stores all of the logos. Alternatively you can order just a PDF file for printing and print the cards yourself locally. Please note that no other logos apart from the GIZ logo and the cooperation logo are permitted to be shown on business cards, not even for cofinanced projects. If a GIZ staff member has a business card bearing logos relating to a different employer, this can have consequences in terms of liability law and labour law, especially if it is not clear to third parties in whose name the staff member is acting. The name of the unit or division must be shown on the right, above the address. The section/group may also be shown, on the left below the staff member s name. No job titles are shown, except for staff at managerial level. Business cards for CPS/development workers Staff working for the Civil Peace Service can obtain special cards displaying the CPS logo from the print shop. No other logos (from partners) may be included. Development workers therefore have two business cards: one for GIZ and one for the partner organisation. If a partner organisation s logo is included there is a fundamental risk that a logo for a different employer on a staff member s business card will have consequences in terms of liability law or labour law, and it will not be clear to third parties in whose name the staff member is acting.

6.2 Publications Sector projects/programmes, projects and programmes in Germany All printed matter that GIZ publishes in the context of BMZ commissions in Germany must comply with BMZ corporate design rules. This applies to programmes/projects that are at least 50% funded from Departmental Budget 23, i.e. publications from sector projects/programmes in particular. The design of such publications follows the guidelines of the BMZ style guide. GIZ is identified as the publisher on the front cover and in the publishing information. This rule also applies to other implementing organisations, such as KfW Development Bank, and it helps maintain the consistent image of German development cooperation within Germany. The guidelines on the following pages apply to publications by sector projects/programmes and projects and programmes in Germany implemented on behalf of ministries other than BMZ. The ministry s logo must be positioned to the right of the GIZ logo on all GIZ media produced by other sector projects/programmes (brochures, flyers, posters, CD-ROMs, presentations etc.). 20 6.3 Publications Design of the inside pages of publications The inside pages of publications may be layouted individually. Below are a number of tips on how to use typefaces etc. in order to ensure that your publication is easy to read and understand. Examples are given in the sample pdf. Use of typefaces: As a general principle always set continuous text as flush left, ragged right. Inserted boxes can be formatted as justified text (flush left and right). Arrange all text elements flush left. Use flush left, ragged right with hyphenation. Leave a large enough margin around all edges of the page. It is best to format main headings in bold at a size 2 to 4 points larger than the continuous text, while sub-headings are best formatted in bold at the same size as the rest of the text. Take care that headings of the same level are also always set in the same font size and the same typeface variant (bold, semi-bold, italic, etc.). You should specify at the outset how you want accentuations, lists, footnotes, graphics titles and table headings to appear, and keep to these specifications consistently throughout the document. Avoid setting only in uppercase (all capitals) if at all possible. It is not easy to read. Optimum legibility is ensured when lines are between 45 and 65 characters long. For DIN A4 format this means setting the text in two columns or one narrow column. Page numbers should be easy to read, preferably bold and a little larger than the continuous text, and always in the same place, if possible aligned left and right on the outside. Use indentation sparingly to make the text more readable. The table of contents can be made easier to read by adding horizontal lines

6.4 Publications Lettering on spine Brochures and books comprising about 50 or more pages can be produced using adhesive binding and a continuous cover. A book produced in this way has a smooth spine which can then show the title and GIZ logo. Brochure title in 10 pt GIZ Gravur Condensed Regular Brochure title in 10 pt GIZ Gravur Condensed Regular Font sizes shown are minimum sizes. Minimum width of spine: 6 mm Size of the logo: 4%

6.5 Publications Publishing details The publishing details of GIZ publications must include at least the following information (except those details declared optional): Layout of publishing details: Items from named contributors do not necessarily reflect the views of the company/the editors. Applicable to publications partly produced by external consultants Published by Deutsche Gesellschaft für Internationale Zusammenarbeit (GIZ) GmbH Registered offices Bonn and Eschborn Friedrich-Ebert-Allee Bonn, Germany Phone: Fax: Dag-Hammarskjöld-Weg Eschborn, Germany Phone: Fax: Internet: Name of sector project* Responsible... Author/Editors etc.... 23 6.6 Publications Development cooperation programmes Design specifications Design specifications Publications for German DC programmes (integration of at least two different BMZ interface instruments; TC, FC,...) follow their own corporate design or that of the German Federal Government. They show the relevant German cooperation logo according to the design guidelines (see Corporate Design Center: Corporate Design German Federal Government > PR abroad ( cdc/en/downloads/cdc/manual-eldz-en-16may2013.pdf). An additional logo for programmes should not be developed. The logos of participating organisations can be included in the publishing details or as defined in the Corporate Design of the German Federal Government. The registered company names of the organisations appear in the publishing details. For supraregional programmes and in a multilateral German DC context the version of the standard German cooperation logo shown below must be used. It is available in English, French, German and Spanish (English shown here as an example):

6.7 Publications Information about country brochures Image brochure/country brochure Before you consider any of the finer points, you need a concept that includes an objective, target groups and messages. It is not about producing as many publications as possible; it is about making them as meaningful as possible. Assistance on designing a country brochure can be found on the intranet. We present ourselves in keeping with the overall German external presentation and its current norms, as well as with the reality on the ground (norms are not always fully up to date). Whenever a decision is made to make changes to the public image, we are quick to implement it. GIZ s image should be balanced in relation to the other German development cooperation actors. Accordingly, the design of a country brochure should not be overly elaborate. Country brochures contribute to GIZ s presentation of itself. A GIZ country brochure must have some added value if it is produced alongside a combined publication of German development cooperation. This is the case, for instance, if (a) GIZ also works for commissioning parties other than BMZ, (b) attempts to procure new contracts in the country seem promising, or (c) there is no joint brochure available locally, and there are no plans to produce one in the near future. Information must be shared locally with other colleagues and, depending on the specific situation, a consensus should be reached. The costs for a country brochure must be distributed fairly, according to the level of involvement. This means, for instance, that if GIZ International Services is involved in a project, it must also pay its share of the costs.

6.8 Publications Publishers other than GIZ Minimum requirements for publications that appear in a publishing house s layout, for example The GIZ logo must be shown on the title page. The full name of the company, in German, must be stated in the publishing details: Deutsche Gesellschaft für Internationale Zusammenarbeit (GIZ) GmbH Publications published by contractors (for example studies implemented and published by consultants on behalf of GIZ) GIZ corporate design specifications apply to publications written by contractors, except for those produced in the context of projects or programmes in Germany on behalf of BMZ and financed at least 50% with funds from Departmental Budget 23, in which case the corporate design guidelines of BMZ are to be used. Publications by projects and programmes outside Germany must conform to the relevant BMZ and Federal Foreign Office guidelines. Logos of consulting firms may be reproduced in the publishing details of publications produced under GIZ design rules, but in no other part of the publication.

6.9 Publications Information sheets and worksheets Possible uses This publication format is intended for texts that do not appear within publications but are, for example, to be offered on the internet for download or are distributed as worksheets during conferences. The details shown in the publishing information are the minimum required. They can be personalised as necessary. The GIZ standard logo must be shown. GIZ offices or GIZ IS may also use their own logo variants. 27 6.10 Publications Newsletters A newsletter is an that appears periodically in either HTML or text format. It summarises current news and themes. A newsletter provides an overview with links to further information and is sent to a group of subscribers. Newsletters can appear in four different layouts: A newsletter with teaser text and links leading to various pages on the GIZ internet and GIZ intranet or DMS. Documents on the intranet are saved in DMS and can also be linked. A self-contained newsletter without links or references to other documents. It has a maximum length of 3,000 characters. A bullet list with each point comprising no more than two lines, to report on new issues in brief. The maximum number of bullet points per topic is eight. A newsletter with a short overview and a link leading to a page on the internet or intranet. This page contains an explanatory text and a PDF document for download. Newsletters should be produced with the same care as all other media (brochures, publications, webpages, CD-ROMs etc.), because every newsletter is an important marketing tool and means of communication. The design of newsletters is therefore subject to the corporate design rules. Newsletters are produced with the aid of software called Mailingwork. Users merely have to insert text and images. Background information, a checklist for preparing your newsletter and the handbook for the newsletter application are available on the intranet at:

6.11 Publications Sector networks Sector networks within GIZ The GIZ design specifications apply. Do not develop separate logos or free-standing emblems or identifiers. A recognisable design or series design can be developed for the banderol on all GIZ publications, which can be configured freely. Sector networks between GIZ and third parties The companies and institutions concerned must determine among themselves which corporate design principles are to be used to design the sector network s publications. Free-standing emblems or identifiers can be developed. If the design follows the design specifications of GIZ, any such emblem or identifier appears in the banderol. If the design follows the corporate design principles of another institution, at least the GIZ logo and the full name of the company in German (Deutsche Gesellschaft für Internationale Zusammenarbeit (GIZ) GmbH) must be shown in the imprint.

7.1 PowerPoint templates Slide master, content slides The design of these templates is binding, and their use is mandatory. Do not change the design of the header or footer. Certain differences apply to various organisational units (see table on next page). The GIZ slide masters are the basis for all PowerPoint presentations intended for target groups inside or outside GIZ. The slide background is white. The GIZ IS logo version or the logo version of the GIZ office must be inserted in the header of the slide master. The red frame shows the boundaries of the text box. This area should not be enlarged, but in exceptional cases can be extended to the right. Pictures (graphics) can be inserted anywhere in the area between the header and the footer. Use pictures set to the best quality but smallest possible size, to prevent the size of the presentation file from becoming too large. Use of typefaces and fonts We use the GIZ in-house typeface, which is Arial. Colours: black, RGB grey (r=147, g=147, b=147), RGB red (r=200, g=15, b=15) Recommended font size: at least 20 pt for screen-based presentations Accentuations in continuous text: with high-contrast colours or bold (not underlined or italic) Internal text links and external links to the web: pt Arial, link colour: red (RGB red: r=200, g=15, b=15) The template for your presentation is available from CDC > Templates & graphic material > Office & layout templates > PowerPoint Please note that a separate template with the German cooperation logo is available for BMZ/Federal Foreign Office programmes/projects abroad: CDC > Corporate Design German Federal Government > PR abroad The header of the title slide differs from the subsequent content slides. The globe is shown in the header from the second slide onwards. 32 9.1 Word templates Standards for producing PC forms Company-wide PC templates and templates in O+R There are a range of PC forms for internal and external communication. You will find all PC forms applicable to all departments in the GIZ forms and in O+R. These forms are designed in accordance with the GIZ standard for the production of PC forms. They all conform to a uniform design. Recurring content, for example, is always represented in the same way. Typographic tools such as font size and weight, lines and selection fields are used uniformly and sparingly. Inappropriate design features such as placing text in boxes are avoided. This uniform appearance is binding. The standards in detail: The GIZ logo is placed at the top right of the PC form. The form title is placed at the top left at the same level as the GIZ logo. Predefined text and entered text are distinguished from each other by the font size and font weight. The predefined text may be accentuated by being shown in bold. The entered text is inserted at a size 2pt larger, max. 11pt, in regular font. Exceptions to this rule are all forms produced on the basis of the letter or the memo in brief template. In this case no distinction is made between predefined text and entered text. The form number is placed at the bottom left on the first page. The last digit is an indicator of the current version. This is followed by indication of the given language, always identified by the relevant ISO abbreviation (de, en, es, fr etc.).
