Common Brand Program December 31, 2006 Taiji Brand Group
visual identity Logo Guidelines Layout and Specifications The Community Futures logo is a combination of the leaf symbol and the logo type. The precise and unchanging visual relationship between the symbol and logotype forms the basis of the Community Futures common brand. It can not be altered in any way. The symbol can be used alone in predetermined applications (such as forms and documents templates) and in certain specialized marketing applications. Otherwise, the logo must be used, as shown. Colour (as shown) or black and white versions can be used. The logo may not be used in any other colour combinations. It may not be used as part of the body of text (i.e. in a sentence). It may not be cropped, abbreviated or modified in any way. Refer to Page 17 for Provincial Brand, Regional Brand, Program and Partner Brand usage. 3 visual identity Logo Guidelines Logo Variations The Community Futures logo is available in colour, and black and white, as well as in positive and reverse applications. 4 visual identity Logo Guidelines Logo Variations Multiple Community Futures Branches In a situation where more than one Community Futures organization is mentioned, such as in a newsletter or as co-sponsors of a conference, the logos can be displayed as follows. Wherever possible, Community Futures organizations should be listed alphabetically. 5 visual identity Logo Guidelines Compliance with Western Economic Diversification Canada s Visibility Guidelines 1.0 Communications and Promotional Materials Materials that communicate or promote programs and services offered by Community Futures must acknowledge the support of Western Economic Diversification Canada (WD). These include: Advertising (newspaper, TV, radio, web) News releases, fact sheets Conference materials Promotional and informational brochures Displays and banners Websites Event posters Interior signage, such as wall plaques and tabletop signs The preferred way to acknowledge the support of WD is to use the following federal government identifiers: the Western Economic Diversification Canada signature and the Government of Canada wordmark, along with an acknowledgement line. These federal government identifiers must always be accompanied by an acknowledgement line so it is clearly understood that the materials are not a Government of Canada product (see Examples on Page 13). The use of these federal government identifiers requires prior approval from Western Economic Diversification Canada s Communications Department (contact details provided on Page 14). Western Economic Development Canada Signature WD s signature consists of the flag symbol and the department s name in both official languages. This signature conforms to the Government of Canada s Federal Identity Program (commonly referred to as FIP). There is an English and French version of WD s signature. English Version of WD s signature French Version of WD s signature Government of Canada Wordmark The Canada wordmark is the global symbol of the Government of Canada. Acknowledgement Lines Acceptable acknowledgement lines include: This initiative (or project or campaign) is supported (or supported in part) by Western Economic Diversification Canada. Supported by Western Economic Diversification Canada. Community Futures (insert location) is part of the Western Canada Business Service Network, supported by Western Economic Diversification Canada. This initiative is supported by the Government of Canada through Western Economic Diversification Canada. Supported by the Government of Canada through Western Economic Diversification Canada. Community Futures Pan West Brand Program December
visual identity When space is limited, it is acceptable to use only an acknowledgement line or, alternatively, to use one of the following short phrases just above the WD signature and Canada wordmark (see Example 1, below). Acceptable short phrases include: Supported by: Proudly supported by: In partnership with: Example 1 With the participation of: With the participation of: With the support of: Note: The Canada wordmark must be slightly (visibly) larger than the WD signature and the Canada wordmark must align with WD s name text on the left. The only time it is acceptable to use the WD signature and Canada wordmark without an acknowledgement line or short phrase is when the product is truly a joint initiative of Community Futures and the Government of Canada/WD, such as a joint promotion for Small Business Week. 2.0 Examples Examples of how to acknowledge WD s support in advertising, and on posters and displays, signs and banners such as those used at conferences and events. This initiative is supported by Western Economic Diversification Canada Or, if space is limited: With the support of: Examples of how to acknowledge WD s support in news releases, fact sheets, promotional brochures, report covers and other publications that communicate or promote programs and services offered by Community Futures. Note: Western Economic Diversification Canada should be linked to WD s website and Government of Canada should be linked to the Canada site, Community Futures Pan West Brand Program December
visual identity 3.0 Obligation to Notify WD Communications Any use and/or application of Western Economic Diversification Canada's signature and Government of Canada wordmark must be reviewed and approved by Western Economic Diversification Canada s Communications Branch prior to publication. Western Economic Diversification Canada must be consulted at least 21 days prior to publication or project deadline. A longer timeline is advised for television advertising. WD Regional Communications Contacts British Columbia Communications Manager (604) Alberta Communications Manager (780) Saskatchewan Communications Manager (306) Manitoba Communications Manager (204) Ottawa Liaison Office Manager, Communications (613) Operational Materials Generally, materials that are produced as part of a Community Futures office s day-to-day operations do not have to make reference to Western Economic Diversification Canada or the Government of Canada. These materials include: Letterhead and letters Business cards Invitations Holiday cards Newsletters and internal report covers This initiative is supported by Western Economic Diversification Canada Community Futures logo with Western Economic Diversification Canada signature, Government of Canada wordmark, and acknowledgement line Community Futures Pan West Brand Program December
visual identity Logo Guidelines Logo with Tagline Growing communities one idea at a time is the Community Futures corporate tagline and should be used on all external promotional communications. The line must be used in relationship with the corporate signature as shown at the bottom sign-off area of a layout. It is for use primarily in promotional communications such as advertisements and brochures. In these instances, the placement of the tagline will be at the discretion of the designer. When used internally, it should form a signature unit in conjunction with the word mark and symbol. 10 visual identity Logo Guidelines Logo Usage In order for our logo to be easily recognized, the following design guidelines apply. > Under optimum print conditions, the logo should not be reproduced smaller than 1 inch wide. > Never put the logo in a frame or a box. > Never tilt or rotate the logo unless all elements are rotated to the vertical. > Always maintain a clear space around the logo. This clear space should be, at minimum, the same size as the height of the capital letters in the logotype. Words and photographs should never be located within this clear space, or the logo will be compromised and appear unprofessional. 1 Do not use the logo smaller than 1 Do not box or frame the logo Do not rotate the logo Community Futures Pan West Brand Program December
templates Templates Template files for the materials in this brandbook are available on the brand portal website: pwcf-brand.ca. The files are available in Adobe InDesign format (industry standard page makeup software), and in some cases are also available as Microsoft Word file formats. Please refer to the website for downloads, and the following pages for additional information. Most printers, prepress houses and newspapers use InDesign, and either accept InDesign files or final, hi-resolution pdf files (which are exported from the InDesign original art files). It is not expected that any of the Community Futures offices will have or use InDesign internally (although there may be some who do). It is anticipated that offices will utilize the help of either local professional graphic designers, or the in-house production departments of printers and newspapers, using the provided templates as a starting point. Wherever possible, Microsoft word files have been provided, so that the Community Futures offices may produce certain pieces internally. Further information is provided on the brand portal website. Indicators are used to show which file formats are available: Word InDesign Illustrator Jpg PDF Template provided in Microsoft Word Template provided in Adobe InDesign Template provided in Adobe Illustrator File supplied as jpg File supplied as pdf Templates available for download from: pwcf-brand.ca Community Futures Pan West Brand Program December

colour palette Colour Usage and Specifications Colour is an important part of the Community Futures corporate identity. Whenever possible, our official colours should be used. When this is not possible, grayscale or black ink is preferable to other colours. It is also possible to reverse the logo out of solid or patterned backgrounds within reason. If the background is screened up to about 40%, a positive version of the logo can be used. If the background is darker than this, the logo should be reversed completely (i.e. entirely white). Avoid using the logo on complex photographic or heavily textured backgrounds. When producing the logo for printing on a white background with custom inks, the following Pantone Matching System (PMS) inks should be specified: Primary Colours Pantone 7491 (sage green) Black Pantone 7491 Black Accent Colours Pantone 550 (sky blue) Pantone 194 (berry red) Pantone 1225 (butter yellow) Pantone 666 (lavender) Pantone 550 Pantone 194 Pantone 1225 Pantone 666 For paint or vinyl, the manufacturer will be able to supply the closest match to a supplied pantone chip. If there is no appropriate match available, black is the preferred option. For vinyl colour alternates, we recommend: Avery A9 Opaque in Olive Green A9665-0, Avery A6 Opaque in Olive Green A6665-0, or Avery A4 Opaque in Olive Green A Community Futures Pan West Brand Program December
colour palette Colour Process Colour Equivalents When producing the Community Futures logo for printing on a white background with process (CMYK) inks, the following specifications should be used: Primary Colours Pantone 7491 (sage green) Pantone 7491 Black Cyan 52% Magenta 26% Yellow 81% Black 10% Black Black 100% Accent Colours Pantone 550 (sky blue) Pantone 666 (lavender) Pantone 550 Cyan 43% Magenta 0% Yellow 0% Black 23% Pantone 666 Cyan 34% Magenta 30% Yellow 0% Black 6% Pantone 194 (berry red) Pantone 1225 (butter yellow) Cyan 0% Magenta 91% Yellow 56% Pantone 550 Black 34% Pantone 1225 Cyan 0% Magenta 15% Yellow 60% Black 0% Community Futures Pan West Brand Program December

Corporate Font Usage and Specifications Community Futures typographic identity takes many forms, encompassing print collateral, signage, vehicles, clothing and all applications including electronic media that visually represent the Company. To maintain consistency in all Community Futures visual materials, this official type family (font) should be used: Helvetica Helvetica 35 Ultralight Helvetica 55 Roman (Helvetica Regular) Helvetica 75 Bold (Helvetica Bold) For internal communications, the following fonts may be substituted: Helvetica or Arial DISPLAY / HEADLINE helvetica 35 ultralight SUB-HEADLINE HELVETICA 55 ROMAN SMALLCAPS SUB-HEADLINE helvetica 75 bold Sub-head BODY COPY helvetica 55 roman Lorem ipsum dolor sit amet, consectetuer adipisc elit, sed diam nonummy nibh euismod tincidunt ut laoreet dolore magna aliquam erat volutpat. 19 photos Photo Bank The Community Futures photo bank is primarily comprised of stock photography, and is simply a starting point. We hope that Comunity Futures organizations will contribute their better photography to this bank, so it may expand further. Contributing Images to the Photo Bank Images must be a minimum of 6 x 4 and a resolution of 300 dpi. Lossless compression is preferred (i.e. tif is better than jpg). If using jpg images, ensure the highest quality is selected. On the Photo Bank page, select Submit an image, fill out the form and follow the instructions on-line.
