5 1 Installation The Nexio PRX Transcoder application transcodes high-resolution media on the Nexio SAN system to low resolution media on the Nexio Global Proxy system. PRX Transcoder runs continuously in the background once it is launched. The Nexio PRX Scavenger application manages the work of one or more PRX Transcoders. PRX Scavenger uses a rules-based system to automatically decide which clips need to be transcoded, which need metadata updates, and which low-res clips can be deleted. The PRX Scavenger GUI displays MediaBase views of the high-res and the low-res systems. These views allow you to see all clips along with their transcode status. You can also view a list of clips on the low-res system that no longer have matching high-resolution clip counterparts. Installing PRX Transcoder and Scavenger You will need the following information to successfully run the installer: The IP address of your high-resolution server. The domain letter for your high-resolution server. The node number for your high-resolution server. The number of LLM disks. The number of LLM parity disks. The path to your low resolution storage. Your video standard (NTSC or PAL). 1. Navigate to the Global Proxy 3.0 release file. 2. Double-click on the PTCDsetup.exe icon to launch the setup installer. The Nexio Setup window displays for the detected platform.

6 3. Select Scavenger and Transcoder in the Nexio Setup GUI and click Install Selected Applications. 4. Follow the installation prompts on the screen for Scavenger and Transcoder. Note. If you are installing or updating the full PTCD package, you can use Nexio Setup to install all available software at the same time. Nexio Setup Controls Control Installation Platform Installs Indicator Installs New Version Current Version Info Icon Description Shows the detected platform. If the platform detected is not correct, select the correct platform from the drop-down list. Indicates whether or not the listed application is currently installed. Allows you to select which applications to install or update Shows the new version that will be installed or updated. Shows the software version currently installed. Shows you information on the application fiels that are part of the installation.

7 Nexio Setup Controls Control Single Install Indicator Storage Type Show License Agreement Explore Documents Description Allows you to install a single application. Allows you to select the correct storate type: FC Storage - select to connect to storage via Fibre Channel. Farad - select to connect to storage via Farad storage system. Internal Storage - select to connect to Internal storage. Displays the license agreement. Displays Windows Explorer where you can access the available documentation. Installing Applications Simultaneously You can install several applications simultaneously as follows. 1. Look in the Installation Platform list to verify that the correct platform has been detected by the software. 2. Look in the What to Install field to verify that the correct applications are selected. 3. Look in the Storage Type list to verify that the applicable storage type is selected. 4. To begin the installation, click Install Selected Applications. All Nexio applications must be closed before the installation process can begin. The Nexio Setup pop-up displays. View the message, and click OK to begin the installation. Note. Click Uninstall Selected Applications to uninstall applications that are on the device. Installing a Single Application The Nexio Setup window allows you to install or update a single application. To install a single application, click the green + (plus) icon next to the name of the software application you want to install. Follow the screen prompts to complete the process.

8 Launching the Software Launching Transcoder To launch Transcoder, either double-click the desktop icon or select Start > Programs > Harris > PRX Transcoder. Launching Scavenger Note. You must launch PRX Transcoder before you launch PRX Scavenger. To launch Scavenger, either double-click the desktop icon or select Start > Programs > Harris > PRX Scavenger. Transcode Options When you launch Scavenger for the first time, the Transcode Options pop-up displays. Select All to transcode all clips. Select All Via Rules to transcode all clips that fit the criteria of the Transcode Rules. Select None if you do not want to transcode clips at this time. Select Don t show this again if you do not want this pop-up to display upon startup. Loading Clips When you launch Scavenger, there is a message for Apply status change that shows the completion percentage of the loading process. Scavenger uses this process to scan both the high-res and low-res IDs and determine the correct status. The time it takes to complete is proportional to the number of IDs in the system. Once this completes, there are two lists of IDs as follows: MediaBase tab displays high-resolution clips. GPRX MediaBase tab displays low-resolution clips.

9 Installing the Software License Key Software Here is a summary list of steps you must take to activate your NEXIO software license. Use the Registration Manager software to generate a DC file. the.dc file along with your ordering information to Customer Support. You can change it here. Transcode Rules You can create rules that determine whether or not a high-res clip is transcoded by Scavenger. During normal operations, Scavenger watches the high resolution LLM added list for changes. When clip IDs are added, Scavenger compares the clip IDs to the list of transcode rules. These rules determine whether high-res clips are transcoded, deleted, or ignored. Add ID Rules The Add ID Rules determine when Scavenger will add a clip to the Auto-Transcode queue and whether a low-res proxy of the clip will be created. Transcode Add ID Rules are based on clip ID metadata as shown in the Clip ID Fields. Here is a list of fields that can be used to create an Add ID Rule: ID Description Duration Agency Type 1. Select a Field Name to use as the basis of your rule. 2. From the Equation drop-down, select an operation rule. Different operation rules are available in the drop-down list depending on the field name you select.

Select a result that you want to associate with the rule you are creating. Create low-res proxy. Use this result for clips you want to transcode. Do not create low-res proxy. Use this result to filter out high-res clips that you do not want to transcode. 5. Click Add Rule. Scavenger applies the rules in order as they appear in the list. Rules appear in the list in order as they are created. You can drag and drop rules in the list to change their order. Delete ID Rules The Delete ID Rules determine when Scavenger will delete a low-resolution clip in cases where the clip s corresponding high-resolution clip is deleted. Transcode Delete ID Rules are based on clip ID metadata as shown in the Clip ID Fields. Here is a list of fields that can be used to create a Delete ID Rule: ID Description Duration Agency Type 1. Select a Field Name to use as the basis of your rule. 2. From the Equation control, select an operator. The operators change depending on the field name you select. 3.
