3 Technology Help Desk Expand your mind with technology and education, and change your world! The Technology Help Desk provides support to students, faculty, and staff at UW- Parkside on general computing issues, various UW applications, and various other services. The Technology Help Desk Staff is available via phone, , and in person at the walk-in help desk locations. 4 How To Activate Your UWP Account Start at the link above, or go to: Click on the Logins link at the top of the page Choose Manage your account password.uwp.edu Then: Click on the orange Password Self Service box Enter in your UW-Parkside Net ID (stude000) Enter your INITIAL password Initial Password PIN (1234) + Birth year (92) + Birth Month (12) Your initial Password is: Setup your password responses Click on Change Password to set a new password Write them down and keep for your records. Logout What Happens To My Account When I Leave The University? Your account will be disabled accordingly: Students: 4 Terms (12 Months) following their last day of attendance. This includes Summer Session and Winterim Session. This is regardless of whether they graduated or dropped out. Instructional Faculty & Staff: 365 days (12 months) following their last day of employment. This includes Summer Session and Winterim Session. Including: AJ - Adjunct Staff Member AI - Instructional Academic Staff FA - Faculty Member General Academic & Classified Staff : 14 days (2 weeks) following the last day of employment. This includes employee appointment types: OT - Other Staff Member LT - Limited Appointment Staff UL - University Staff Member UJ - University Project Staff UP - University Permanent Staff AS - Academic Staff Other types of Employees : Immediately following the last day of employment. Retired and Emeritus Faculty & Staff : Can stop the account expiration by contacting the HR Department and asking to RETAIN or if they have a letter stating that they have been made an Emeritus. 4 - Campus Technology Services

5 How Do I Access My Courses In D2L? For Students: D2L courses by default all begin on the first day of class. NOTE: instructors may open a course early. Not all instructors use D2L. If in doubt check with your instructor. You MUST be registered for the course in order to have access. Wait-listed students DO NOT have access to the course site. Once you officially add a course in SOLAR, it takes an overnight update for you to have access. The updates run every night. Use the Getting Started link What is D2L? for login instructions. For Instructors: New employees: All HR paperwork must be completed and entered into SOLAR by HR. You must be listed in SOLAR as the instructor of the course to have access. Your department needs to notify the Registrar s office. You must request a course be active in D2L by filling out a COURSE REQUEST FORM. The link to the form can be found on the D2L login page. The submitted form comes to the Learning Technology Staff. Course are established as quickly as possible, but the integration process between SOLAR and D2L requires an update to run. Instructors are notified via UW-Parkside when their course(s) are established and they have access. Request D2L course sites early. Use the Getting Started link What is D2L? for login instructions. The Support Form and Course Request are located on the D2L login page and are also located on your D2L homepage after you login. If you are still having trouble with D2L, please D2L@uwp.edu or contact the Help Desk at (262) Campus Technology Services

6 How To Set Up UW-Parkside On Mobile Devices For ios Devices At the homescreen of the ios device go to settings On the settings menu, go to the Mail, Contacts, Calendars tab In the accounts section, click on the add account option. For Android Devices At the homescreen of the Android device click on the menu button Go to Settings > Accounts & Sync > Add Account > Corporate To set up a (Staff and Faculty) account as Exchange: On the add account section, click on Microsoft Exchange. The following section will appear. Fill in the appropriate as shown in the example below. username@uwp.edu Domain: ad.uwp.edu Username: username Password: user s password Description: Exchange/UWP (whatever the user would like their account to appear as in their mail app) After clicking next, a box under will appear saying Server Server: mail.uwp.edu SSL should be turned ON (should be automatic) Also important to note, faculty and staff setting up on their devices this way will be required at times to set up a password. Alternative Way At the homescreen of the Android device, go to the App Drawer (different for most devices) Go to Press the menu button Go to Add Account To Set up a (Student) account as Exchange: On the add account section, click on Microsoft Exchange. The following section will appear. Fill in the appropriate as shown in the example below. username@rangers.uwp.edu Domain: leave blank Username: username@rangers.uwp. edu Password: user s password Description: Exchange/UWP (whatever the user would like their account to appear as in their mail app) After clicking next, a box under will appear saying Server. Server: m.outlook.com SSL should be turned ON (should be automatic) Be sure to download UW-Parkside s free mobile app! Download it for ios and Android smartphones. 8 Classroom & Lab Technology Interested in what technology is offered in the classrooms or computer labs that you will be in? On the UWP website you have the ability to see each classroom/lab and what technology is offered in each room. There is also information on how many seats are in each room, if the classroom have a chalkboard or a whiteboard, and even photos of what the room looks like. UW Parkside has a variety of classrooms and each room is equipped with it s own unique technology. It helps to be aware of the technology in your classrooms, especially when it comes time for lectures and presentations. There are both Mac labs and PC labs availble for student and class use. The Macs in the Wyllie labs are equipped with the Adobe Creative Suite. These labs are Wyllie D150M and Wyllie D150L. Each lab is stationed near a printer and the labs used for classes each have a projector and instructor station. Labs may be booked for private meetings, classes, and group events. (There may be a fee depending on your event.) 9 What Should I Know About Security? Please do your part to keep our campus computing environment secure. Treat your laptop or mobile devices as your would a wallet or purse; NEVER leave it unattended. Most crime on campus is a crime of convenience, so use secure storage in residence hall rooms and talk to a Campus Technology Services Technician about how to secure your electronic device. You are responsible for taking measures to secure your computer; protect your identity and avoid copyright infringement per campus policy. UW-Parkside will never initiate a request for sensitive information from you via (i.e., Social Security Number, Personal ID, Password, PIN or account number). Never give out personal information or account numbers (ex: SSNs) in response to an unsolicited Phishing request. Check with our Technology Help Desk at before logging into any accounts in response to an unsolicited , no matter how real it looks.
