4 Free Drivers training for teens Ford Driving Skills for Life is offering FREE drivers training for teens who have their driver s license or learner s permit THIS WEEKEND. The event is Saturday and Sunday, April 6-7, at Fair Park You must register in advance at Choir Needs Chaperones The WTW choir needs chaperones for UIL performances on April 11 th. April 11 is the UIL judging in Duncanville. We don t know the exact times but will probably need folks from 8am 6pm as we have 3 choirs performing. Please me what day and times you can help. Also, please fill out and return the attached chaperone form to Mr. Parker and see information below to register as a DISD volunteer. If you have not already registered this year, we need you to do so now. Please print out the last page when you are done and send to the school. Thank you for your help. 5 DISD School Calendar The DISD School Calendar has been approved. The calendar can be accessed through the DISD main website or copy and paste this link in your browser: Option%201% %20Calendar%20Updated% pdf The Flipped Classroom Please know teacher Sara Weatherford was well received last night as a presenter on "The Flipped Classroom" at our Council of PTAs meeting. Her presentation was informative, engaging, and humorous. Above all, she conveyed a genuine willingness to try new things with extensive preparation and to do whatever it takes to deliver instruction effectively. I believe it was also helpful that the elementary and middle school parents at the meeting saw that W. T. White has excellent teachers like Sara and that she works on a campus that supports such innovation and that encourages peer collaboration and sharing. On a side note, our council president, Melissa Higginbotham, had the wonderful coincidence last week of receiving two tickets to hear Salman Kahn speak at the Perot Museum. She gave them to Sara in appreciation for her speaking to our group and I know Sara enjoyed attending with her colleague Michelle Pierce. I am most grateful for Sara's willingness to have taken the time speak to our group and for all that she put into it. 7 Congrats to the Ceramics Students at WT White Congratulations to the following W.T. White H.S. ceramics students under the direction of Katherine Nelson who had an extremely successful VASE competition. VASE is the Visual Arts version of UIL All- State. This is the first year that W.T. White H.S. has offered ceramics and the students are doing amazing works. The following students got recognized status: Beatriz Coronado Jessica Fasio Isabel Hector Britney Holmes Elizabeth Martinez Astrid Ortiz Mariela Pena Vivian Perez Keily Segovia The following student got the highest rating awarded: Denisse Lezama The following students got the highest rating awarded with perfect scores in all categories, including interview: Gladys Adjei Alejandro Chavez Tony Lopez Aubriana Meylan Carlos Montes Jenna Walton Congratulations to all students who entered their work and went up against the best of TX - you all did a wonderful job, and you should be very proud!

8 Congrats!! Longhorn Swim Team Last Wednesday, 16 Longhorn Swimmers swam a total of 42,350 yards in one hour in our 3rd Annual LapAThon! Congrats, TEAM! Longest distance = 4100 yards by Austin Musselman! Way to GO, Austin! Elena Ring was close behind with 3950 yards and Sunny Johannsdottir in 3rd with 3800! We are grateful for our family and friends and their contributions to our team. We will use funds for more equipment, caps and suits, and our end of the year banquet. Thank you to our community for your continued support of WTW Athletics! Contributions can still be made to the WTW Longhorn Swim Team.
