1 Applied Biosystems SQL*LIMS Technical Support Technical Note Document Number: WIN002 Last Revision Date: 9/117/2004 Software Versions: SQL*LIMS v and v4.1 Platform: Windows NT/2000 Author: Deborah Man Subject: Oracle Reports using SQL*LIMS v or v4.1 Description: Introduction Setting up and ing Oracle Reports in the SQL*LIMS application is a relatively simple process. However, the Oracle Reports Server must be successfully installed and tested on Windows NT/2000. If you cannot successfully run a server event to print an Oracle report on the Oracle Report Server, you will not be able to your reports. The prerequisites for ing Oracle Reports are: 1. Oracle Report Server must be up and running, 2. A MAPI profile is set up with the Outlook Express, 3. The Outlook Express security preference has to be set up, 4. The Oracle Reports preference file must be set up, and 5. The Log On Account for the Oracle Reports service must match the person who can log on and access the MAPI profile. The instructions below briefly describe the set up procedures prior to a test run. 1. Install Oracle Report Server Install the Oracle Report Server following the SQL*LIMS Server Installation Guide. Confirm that you should be able to print out a report using the server event mode of The Oracle Report Server. 2. Configure the Default Internal Mail Account using Outlook Express Settings Oracle Reports requires a MAPI profile in order to distribute report output as . Outlook Express is one way to configure the MAPI subsystem. Log in to the system as the LIMS Owner (for example, trainlims ). Open the Microsoft Outlook Express program that should have been installed with the Operating System. If you open the program for the first time, an Internet Connection Wizard will start. Otherwise, invoke the wizard by selecting Tools > Accounts > Mail > Add. Oracle Reports using SQL*LIMS v or v4.1 Page 1 of 8

2 Use the following steps of the Internet Connection Wizard to set up your Internet mail account. 2.1 Enter the Display Name. 2.2 Enter a valid Address. Oracle Reports using SQL*LIMS v or v4.1 Page 2 of 8

3 2.3 Enter the Outgoing SMTP Server Name. Incoming mail is not important, as this Report Server is not supposed to receive any incoming mails. Use ReportServer to be a dummy server in this case. Outgoing mail (SMTP) should be a correct server. Check with your Network Administrator for these settings. You typically only need the outgoing SMTP address. Enter an Account Name. The Account Name should be a valid Outlook, Lotus Notes or Groupwise account in your company. It is not necessary to fill in the password, as it is not supposed to receive any incoming any in this context. Oracle Reports using SQL*LIMS v or v4.1 Page 3 of 8

6 2.7 Confirm the Outlook Express security settings. Select the Outlook Express> Tools > Options > Security tab. To avoid getting the REP-4202 or 4224 errors when attempting to access the mail system, deselect the setting Warn me when other applications try to send mail as me. REP-4202 Error occurred while logging onto mail subsystem. REP-4224 Incorrect user name/password or service profile name. 2.8 Test by sending an from this Report Server alias account in Outlook Express The mail should be successfully received on the other end. 7 3. Confirm that Outlook Express is configured as the default program on the server. Select the Control Panel > Internet Option > Programs tab. 4. Set up the Oracle Reports preference settings. Add mail profile to C:\OraRpts\REPORT60\SERVER\Rep60.ora file. 8 5. Verify the logon user account for Oracle Reports Server. In the Service Panel, Oracle Report Service Logon User Account must be the same user who set up the MAPI profile. Change the logon if required and restart the server once to let the setting take effect. 7. SQL*LIMS SMTP Setting In the Registry settings, specify your SMTP_Host in HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE>Software>Applied Biosystems>SM>4.1>train. For example: SMTP_HOST = mailserver.sj.pec.com 8.
