1 Helping Hands for Copper Basin Bible Camp Fall Newsletter (October 2013) Summer Camp this year was fabulous! There were around 360 Campers 10% higher than last year! There were baptisms at camp or directly after at home Congregations. There were no bed bug bites this summer! CBBC has worked very closely with Orkin to resolve this Cabin problem. Our first Summer Celebration BBQ held on July 27 th was a hit! This Event focused on bringing Summer Camp attendees and CBBC families back to camp for an end of summer fellowship. Approximately 150 people participated in the hamburger/hotdog lunch, including several of the Counselors still in AZ. The ZipLine was open, Baseball and Volleyball games were played, and everyone enjoyed the cooler weather and occasional rain throughout the afternoon. A Big Thank You to everyone who helped with the day! This Event has replaced the annual Fall BBQ. Mattress replacement has begun! 16 new mattresses were installed before Summer Camp. They are $75 each and oddly enough, we found the closest size to our bunks thru a prison supplier. Work Weekends (Labor Day and Memorial Day) this year have been a big success! Thank you to the over 50 people contributing their time and talents to CBBC! A lot of facility maintenance has been performed such as painting the interior of the Hague, removed trees cut/split/piled and ready for sale as firewood, replacing tractor tires and getting the tractors working again, fence repair, trail cleanup, weeding and general cleanup, and getting the camp ready for the upcoming Events and congregational rentals. Thanks for an Outstanding Job!: Many Congregations contributed to the annual Food Drive to restock the CBBC Pantry for use at Summer Camp! Thank you to Debbie Ferguson and Kristin Farr for organizing this large project! Thank you to the Camelback CofC Ladies for hosting our 2013 Fall Ladies Retreat! A whopping 123 ladies attended, representing 29 AZ Congregations! The Camelback Ladies were extremely frugal in hosting this Event and contributed $2400 in registration funds to CBBC! We encourage all future Ladies Retreat Hosts to follow their example in having the Ladies Retreat bring much-needed income to the camp. Ask for details!
2 Recent Changes at CBBC: CBBC Fall BBQ is now the Summer Celebration BBQ, occurring the last Saturday of July. This encourages participation by Camper families who accumulate other activities/obligations in the Fall. Ladies Retreats Helping Hands voted to limit our Ladies Retreats to Fall Only, in conjunction with the Seniors Retreat, Men s Retreat, Deaf Retreat etc. This will eliminate the ongoing need for volunteer Congregations during a busy time of year (end of school/graduation/mother s Day etc.) and encourage attendance at one Event instead of two. No Event parking by the Hague, and vehicles parked by the Lodge must be facing out. This is a safety/evacuation requirement. New Helping Hands helpinghands@copperbasinbiblecamp.org Please use this for all correspondence. Upcoming Events: Helping Hands Meetings November 5, 2013, January 7, 2014, April 1, 2014, September 2, 2014 at Camelback CofC (7:30 pm) Helping Hands Rummage Sale Saturday, November 9, 2013 at Camelback CofC (8am-1pm) CBBC Fundraising Dinner and Auction Saturday, February 22, 2014 at Camelback CofC o Cut-off date for donations is Wednesday, February 12 th. o Dinner at 6pm. Doors open 5:30pm for viewing Auction items Many thanks to our ongoing Helping Hands officers for their generous and benevolent service: 2013/2014 Officers: Sue Hoggatt (President) Nilda Watkins (Vice President) Helen Trobough (Treasurer) Diane Simo/Carol Henry (Co-Secretaries) (new replacing Pam Osback Thanks Pam!) Kathy Wood (Newsletter) Kristin Farr ( ) (new replacing Henriette Wouters Thanks Henriette!) Alma Shipley (Memorials/Membership) Diane Simo (Auction Chair)
