2 Introduction To maintain a high level of quality and consistency in a variety of applications, the following guidelines must be followed when applying the logo(s). This guide should assist you in understanding the logo guidelines, the required colors for logo use, font usage and guidelines you will need to request stationery or marketing materials. To order, please contact the UofL Physicians Department of Marketing and Communications at The color standards for the UofL Physicians logos and marketing materials are listed within this document and are to be used when printing stationery or marketing materials. Logos for UofL Physicians, and all its practices, are available for your use. The UofL Physicians practice name will consist of the UofL Physicians Logo and type of practice/specialty. Practice names used before the integration with UofL Physicians will be changed to be compatible with the UofL Physicians logo. For example: UofL Family, Geriatric and Sports Medicine has selected UofL Physicians-Geriatrics, UofL Physicians-Family Medicine and UofL Physicians-Sports Medicine. UofL Ophthalmology has selected UofL Physicians Eye Specialists. Your department Chair and UofL Physicians leadership will work together corroboratively to determine the appropriate name of the practices and specialties within UofL Physicians. The department Chair is the final authority on the name of the practice or specialty. In addition, each practice will have an individualized plan to assist in the smooth transition of the name and logo. If you are printing an ad or other collateral materials please contact the UofL Physicians Department of Marketing and Communications at , to design and provide finished materials to your office. No version of the UofL lettermark may be used to replace the words UofL or University of Louisville in a sentence. The UofL lettermark may not be used separate from the UofL Physicians logo when referring to the UofL Physicians. The UofL lettermark is a registered trademark of the University of Louisville. 1

8 Unacceptable Logo Usage The success of the UofL Physicians brand identity relies on the clarity and consistency with which it is implemented. Distorting or changing it reduces its legal protection and diminishes its impact. The following examples show some potential mistakes that must be avoided. Also, please do not reproduce the logo on a textured or patterned background that reduces clarity of the logo. 1. Do not alter colors 2. Do not alter proportions 3. Do not add elements 4. Do not rotate 5. Do not invade clear space 6. Do not add drop shadows 7. Do not alter font 8. Do not alter layout 9. Do not skew the logo 10. Do not overlay photo 11. Do not place on top of a patterned background 12. Do not crop the logo As of this publication, private practice icons will NOT be used along within the UofL Physicians logo. The private practice logos are no longer valid. UofL Physicians practice specific logos have been created for your use. Examples below show incorrect usage of the practice specific UofL Physicians logo. Family & Geriatric Medicine PULMONARY Do not alter layout, add elements or incorporate practice name. 7
9 Arrangement and Use The quality of the logo should be reproduced from an original vector-based electronic file. Do not typeset the UofL Physicians logo yourself. Fully scalable artwork for Macs and PCs are available. To order, contact the UofL Physicians Department of Marketing and Communications at To maintain readability, the logo should not be reproduced any smaller than 1 1/2 inches in length. No version of the logo may be used to replace the words UofL Physicians in a sentence or headline. They may only be used as stand-alone design elements. Clear space minimum requirements = half the height of the U. The radius of the clear zone for the logo must equal the size of the box represented in the blue box labeled B. This is then used to measure the space surrounding the logo: above, below and to the side of the dotted lines. Clear space minimum requirements Standard logo minimum length reproduction: 1.5 Practice specific horizontal logo minimum length reproduction: Practice specific stacked logo minimum length reproduction: 1.5 8

20 Lab Coats You have the option of ordering a UofL School of Medicine Lab Coat or a University of Louisville Physicians Lab Coat. The University of Louisville School of Medicine has strict guidelines that will not allow any other logo to appear on a lab coat with the UofL School of Medicine logo. The UofL School of Medicine and UofL Physicians identities cannot be incorporated on a single lab coat. You may have a practice-specific coat or a department-specific coat, or one of each. If you choose to order a UofL Physicians practice name. For standardization, please position the UofL Physicians practice name on the right breast pocket and only the physician s name on the left side. In accordance to University standards, you may not include your UofL department name on a UofL Physicians-adorned lab coat under the physicians name 19
21 Signatures Uniform UofL Physicians signatures deliver brand consistency electronically across practices and departments. Just as our business cards and letterhead uphold an identity standard, signatures should follow a similar conventional style. The signature is designed to project a distinct UofL Physicians identity and to achieve consistency in our communications, in particular with external parties. The signature will also present essential information, such as contact details, for the convenience of those with whom the staff is communicating. Because of the wide variety of desktop and web browser clients, a consistent signature can be difficult to achieve. The best rule of thumb? Keep it simple. Use a simple black 9 or 10pt standard font (preferred) Microsoft Sans Serif, Calibri, or Times Roman (preferred) for the body copy and 12pt for the signature. Non-standard typefaces and HTML may not translate well across clients. Avoid using any colors other than ULP Red or ULP Black for your signature name Do not use any quotations or other philosophical statements, colored or patterned backgrounds. Do not confuse your UofL Physicians account with your personal account. Your signature should reflect a professional and consistent image when conducting business through . In some cases, a UofL Physicians team member may choose not to include a cell phone number, fax number or an signature. For individual practices, the University of Louisville Physicians practice name may be substituted for the University of Louisville Physicians company name. The address preferred is your physical address however, a mailing address may be more appropriate. If you choose to include the UofL Physicians website address, social media link and/or logo please select only two of these items to avoid a lengthy signature. 20
