3 Introduction Information about the project realization within subject Project Informatics 2 mentor Ing. Martin Landa project could be realized thanks to VFK driver from OGR library (author M. Landa) Motivation Mr. J. Sobotík (from municipality Nový Jičín, department of informatics) was interested in using cadastral data in QGIS.

4 VFK Czech Cadastral Data Exchange Format provided by Czech Office for Surveying, Mapping and Cadastre pseudo CSV text format contains properties (like parcels and buildings), owners etc. geometry included everyone can buy it (municipalities can get it for free) &HPAR;ID N30;STAV_DAT N2;DATUM_VZNIKU D;... &DPAR; ;0;" :54:44";... &DPAR; ;0;" :26:01";...

5 GDAL/OGR library GDAL/OGR is an open-source C++ library for reading/writing raster (GDAL) and vector (OGR) data fromats. GDAL/OGR library is used by many open-source and proprietary software programs. VFK OGR driver author Ing. Martin Landa, 2010 reading data in VFK format enables to convert data to SQLite3 database

6 Qt framework Qt cross-platform application framework for GUI and non-gui development programming language C++ QtSDK also contains QtCreator and QtDesigner (tool for creating GUI) licensed under GNU GPL, GNU LGPL and commercial license

7 Quantum GIS cross-platform open-source GIS under GNU GPL written in C++/Qt rapidly developing software QGIS Desktop (other components: QGIS Browser, QGIS Server) plugins in C++ or Python well-documented API

8 Plugin development Development split in two parts 1 standalone application working with cadastral data (using SQLite3 database) implemented: data search and browsing 2 application integrated to QGIS data import, loading of parcel and building vector layers, interaction with map layers VFK driver was improved during plugin development. = first plugin prototype ready for testing

17 Further development Further plugin development depends on the results of testing. Possible enhancements more export formats (PDF, ODF) export of geometry additional layer styles (e.g. thematic colors for parcel types) support for wide range of cadastral data types (e.g. equitable servitude) various GUI improvements (e.g. user settings)...

18 Conclusion QGIS user base is growing as grows its functionality QGIS is suitable GIS for municipalities reading of cadastral data is attractive enhancement free/open-source software saves money
