Organization This document is organized as follows: Chapter 1, Installation, on page 9 describes installation requirements, how to install integration software, and how to uninstall integration software. Chapter 2, Understanding the Integration, on page 13 describes how integration software enables Unicenter NSM users to view SPECTRUM alarms as Unicenter NSM events and how SPECTRUM OneClick is accessed from Unicenter NSM. 5

9 Chapter 1: Installation Prerequisites System requirements: Windows 2000/XP/2003 Unicenter NSM 3.1, r11 SPECTRUM 7.1 (with Service Pack 3) The SpectroSERVER host system must have a representative object in Unicenter NSM before you install the integration software. It must be classified as one of the following classes for the integration to function correctly: Windows2000_Server Solaris Windows_NetServer WindowsXP Windows2000 Installing integration software The integration software package includes the following components: Administrative Client for Unicenter NSM (GUI only) This component provides icons for non-dsm Unicenter NSM machines. Install only if the Complete Installation for Unicenter NSM has been installed on another machine. Complete Installation for Unicenter NSM This component imports the class definition and DSM policies required for integration. Install on one DSM server in the distributed environment. It must be installed before SPECTRUM AlarmNotifier. 9

10 Chapter 1: Installation Unicenter NSM Event Management - Standalone Install This component imports the necessary pieces that enable events to be processed. Install on the machine where Unicenter NSM Event Management (EM) is installed only if EM is not installed on the DSM server machine. Otherwise, do not install. SPECTRUM AlarmNotifier This component creates a standalone directory that contains the customized configuration for sending traps to Unicenter NSM. It also adds a SPECTRUM Process Daemon installation ticket to keep AlarmNotifier running continuously. Install on any machine that has SpectroGRAPH (with AlarmNotifier) installed on it. Procedure 1. Run setup.exe from the SPECTRUM Installation CD or extracted zip file. 2. Click Next on the Welcome window. The Select Component window appears. 3. Select the component you want to install and then click Next to proceed with the component installation. 4. Repeat Step 3 to install other components. 10 SPECTRUM Integration for CA Unicenter

13 Chapter 2: Understanding the Integration How SPECTRUM alarms are forwarded to Unicenter NSM SPECTRUM s AlarmNotifier forwards SPECTRUM alarms as traps to Unicenter NSM. The installation creates a directory called UnicenterNotifier and performs the necessary modifications to forward the alarms as traps. The following example NSM Event Message log indicates trap forwarding activity: Event Messages The display of SPECTRUM alarm messages in the event console is controlled by Message Records and Actions (MRA). NOTE: The value of the "MODEL:" parameter refers to the SPECTRUM model name. It depends on the SPECTRUM naming scheme if it is a IP address, system name or DNS name. The install creates an install ticket to allow AlarmNotifier to be managed by the SPECTRUM Process Daemon. See the SPECTRUM AlarmNotifier User Guide (1503) for more information about this AlarmNotifier process. 13

14 Chapter 2: Understanding the Integration To keep SPECTRUM and Unicenter NSM up to date, each time AlarmNotifier is started, it will send a "coldstart" trap to NSM that will clear existing conditions on the SpectrumMO models. Once AlarmNotifier is running, all existing alarms will be reprocessed. How a SPECTRUMAgent Object is created in Unicenter NSM During the AlarmNotifier install, a trap is sent to Unicenter NSM to create the SpectrumAgent object. The object is located underneath the NSM representation of the SPECTRUM workstation. The SpectrumAgent may take a few minutes to show up depending on the load of the DSM machine. If it does not show up, there is a coldstart.bat file within the UnicenterNotifier directory that can be run to re-send the trap. Alarms only from device models With the default configuration, the integration forwards SPECTRUM alarms from only SPECTRUM device models. In other words, device sub-component alarms, like those on SPECTRUM device application or interface models, are not forwarded. These device model alarms are inserted into Unicenter NSM as traps that will create events. Within NSM, the DSM will create a SpectrumMO object, with the appropriate condition, and it will be associated with the NSM object with the same address. If NSM cannot find the correct object, the SpectrumMO will be created in the SPECTRUM Business Process View. 14 SPECTRUM Integration for CA Unicenter
