5 Introduction This section introduces the SPECTRUM Device Management documentation for Lucent Definity Proxy Agent. This introduction to the Device Management documentation for Lucent Definity Proxy Agent contains the following information: Purpose and Scope Required Reading Supported Devices (Page 6) The SPECTRUM Model (Page 6) Purpose and Scope Use this documentation as a guide for managing Lucent Definity Proxy Agent with the SPECTRUM management module SM-LUC1001. The documentation describes the icons, menus, and views that enable you to remotely monitor, configure, and troubleshoot Lucent Definity Proxy Agent through software models in your SPECTRUM database. Only information specific to the supported management module is included under this documentation topic. For general information about device management using SPECTRUM and for explanations of basic SPECTRUM functionality and navigation techniques, refer to the topics listed under Required Reading. Required Reading To use this documentation effectively, you must be familiar with the information covered by the other SPECTRUM online documentation topics listed below. 6 Introduction Supported Devices The SPECTRUM management module SM- LUC1001 currently allows you to model one type of Lucent Definity. The Lucent Definity Proxy Agent is a protocol conversion resource. The Proxy Agent software resides on a stand-alone personal computer and operates on the UnixWare Operation System. The main function is to convert management data from managed nodes and transmit the data to the management programs that reside of the Network Management System. The Proxy Agent supports both static and dynamic connections to managed nodes. You can assign up to 150 dynamic connections on the managed nodes screen. The Proxy Agent can support up to 30 connections which can be any combination of static and dynamic connections. The SPECTRUM Model Supported Devices SPECTRUM uses a single device model type, LucentProxy, for modeling any of the supported Lucent Definity devices. LucentDefinity Proxy Agent models are represented in SpectroGRAPH views by Device icons. As Figure 1 shows, the appearance of the Device icon varies slightly depending on the kind of view it appears in. Figure 1: Model Name LucentProxy Small and Large Device Icons Large Device icon appears in Device Topology, Location, and InterfaceDeviceviews.
