4 Introduction This section introduces the SPECTRUM Device Management documentation for the Series 5 Router manufactured by Wellfleet. This document describes the icons, menus, and views that enable you to remotely monitor, configure, and troubleshoot Wellfleet devices through software models in your SPECTRUM database. Information specific to SM-WEL1002 is what is primarily included in this document. 5 Introduction Supported Devices SPECTRUM management module SM-WEL1002 currently lets you model the Wellfleet Series 5 Router. The SPECTRUM Model Supported Devices The model type for the Wellfleet Series 5 Router device is Rtr_Wfleet5xx. Modeling results in the creation of Device icons that represent the devices and Application icons that represent their supported applications. The Device icons contain double-click zones and provide access to Icon Subviews menus that let you perform device management activities such as those listed in Tasks on Page 7. As Figure 1 shows, the appearance of the Device icons varies slightly depending on the kind of view it appears in. 8 Device View This section describes the Device view and subviews available for models of Wellfleet devices in SPECTRUM. Access: From the Icon Subviews menu for the Device icon, select Device. This view (Figure 2) uses icons and labels to represent the device and its components, such as modules, ports, and applications. The view provides dynamic configuration and performance information for each of the device s serial and network I/O ports, which are represented by Interface icons in the bottom panel of the view. The middle panel of the view displays a Device icon, which lets you monitor the device operation and access other device-specific views. 9 Device View Interface Icons Figure 3 shows a close-up of an Interface icon from the Device view. Most of the informational labels on the icon also provide double-click access to other views, as explained in the following label descriptions. Figure 3: a Interface Icon b Interface Icons Interface Number Label This label displays the interface (port) number. IF Status Label This label displays the current status of the interface for the primary application selected, e.g., Gen Rtr App or MIB-II App. Table 1 lists the possible label color representations. Note that the color of the label also depends on the interface s current Administrative Status, which you set in the Interface Status View (Page 11). 10 Device View Network Type Label This label identifies the type of network to which the interface is connected. Double-click the label to open the Model Information view for the interface. Physical Address Label This label displays the physical (MAC) address of the interface. Double-click this label to open the IF Address Translation Table. IP Address Label This label displays the IP address for the interface. Double-click this label to open the Secondary Address Panel (Page 11), which lets you change the address and mask for the interface. 11 Device View Interface Status View Access: From the Icon Subviews menu for the Interface icon in the Device view, select IF Status. This view provides information on the operational status of the interface and allows you to enable or disable the port. Operational Status The current state of the interface (Up, Down, Unknown, Dormant, Not Present, Lower Layer Down, or Testing). Administrative Status This button allows you to select the desired administrative state of the interface (On, Off, or Testing). Secondary Address Panel Access: From the Icon Subviews menu for the Interface icon in the Device view, select Secondary Address Panel. This panel provides a table of IP addresses and masks obtained from the Address Translation table within the device s firmware. You can change the current address displayed in the IP Address field by selecting an entry from the table in this panel and clicking the Update button. Interface Type/Interface Configuration View Interface Status View The IF (Interface) Configuration view label displays the protocol in use by the port. Table 3 shows the interface types and their descriptions. 13 Device View Bandwidth The estimated bandwidth of the interface measured in bits per second. For interfaces that do not vary in bandwidth or for which no accurate estimate can be made, a nominal bandwidth is provided. Packet Size The largest packet that can be transmitted or received by the port measured in octets. Queue Length The length of the outbound packet queue in packets. Secondary Address Panel Ethernet Address/Interface Address Translation Table The IF (Interface) Address Translation Table view label displays the physical address of the port interface. Double-click on this zone to access the Interface Address Translation Table View. The table displays the physical address matched to a Wellfleet router port interface. The Update button refreshes the table information. Click on a table column head to display the Sort button and arrange the information contained in the table. Click on the Physical Address column head to display the Find button, which allows you to find information regarding a physical address. Double-click on a column entry in the table to access an Address Translation Table Information view. The Interface Address Translation Table view and its corresponding Information view provide the following information: Interface Index The number corresponding to the port s interface. Physical Address The physical (MAC) address of the interface. In the Interface Address Translation Table, the first several MAC address identifiers are replaced by the device manufacturer. 14 Device View Network Address The network (number) address of the interface. Address, Name, Mask/Network Information Panel View The Network Information Panel view label displays the port s IP address, Subnet mask, or Name. This zone displays network information according to what has been selected in the Network Information field of the Interface Options Panel. Double-click on this zone to access the Network Information Panel view, which displays the name, address, and subnet mask associated with the network information for the interface. Click on the OK button to verify the information available from the Network Information Panel view. Click on Cancel to exit the view. Name The name assigned to the port interface. Address The IP (Internet Protocol) address assigned to the port interface. Secondary Address Panel Mask The hexadecimal number that identifies the subnetwork within which the IP address is being used. Device Management Page 14 Wellfleet Series 5 Router

15 Device Topology View This section describes the Device Topology view available for models of the Wellfleet devices. Access: From the Icon Subviews menu for the Device icon, select Device Topology. The Device Topology view (Figure 4) shows the connections between a modeled device and other network entities. The lower panel of the view uses Interface icons to represent the device s serial, network, and I/O ports. These icons provide the same information and menu options as those in the Device View (Page 8). If a device is connected to a particular interface, a Device icon appears on the vertical bar above the Interface icon along with an icon representing the network group that contains the device. Refer to the SPECTRUM Views documentation for details on Device Topology view. 16 Application Views This section describes the main Application view and the associated application-specific subviews available for models of Wellfleet devices in SPECTRUM. Access: From the Icon Subviews menu for the Device icon, select Application. Figure 5: Main Application View Main Application View When a device model is created, SPECTRUM automatically creates models for each of the major and minor applications supported by the device. The main Application view identifies all of these application models, shows their current condition status, and provides access to application-specific subviews. Figure 5 shows this view in the Icon mode. If you prefer the List mode, which displays applications as text labels, select View > Mode > List. For more information on this view, refer to the MIBs and the Application View documentation. TFTP Application View Device-Specific Applications WEL-1002 currently supports the following device-specific application. TFTP Application View The TFTP (Trivial File Transfer Protocol) Application provides the system with executable and text file transfer capabilities. TFTP allows you to transfer files between the system and a host computer system in the network. The TFTP Performance view provides you with the available TFTP information for the Wellfleet Series 5 Router. TFTP Performance View Access: From the Icon Subviews menu for the TFTPApp icon, select Performance. The TFTP Performance view provides you with two color-coded pie charts. This is the number of requests to retrieve a file made by the remote TFTP client. Read Requests The number of RRQ PDUs sent by the TFTP entity since the system was last initialized. This is the number of requests made by this system to retrieve a file from a remote TFTP client. Files The number of successful transfers of files to this entity since the system was last initialized. Files The number of successful transfers of files from this entity since the system was last initialized. Write Requests The number WRQ PDUs received by the TFTP entity since the system was last initialized. This is the number of requests to deposit a file made by a remote TFTP client. Write Requests The number of WRQ PDUs sent by the TFTP entity since the system was last initialized. This is the number of requests made by this system to send a file to a remote TFTP client. Errors The number of ERR PDUs received by the TFTP entity since the system was last initialized. Errors The number of ERR PDUs sent by the TFTP entity since the system was last initialized. Retransmits The number of TFTP PDUs that have been retransmitted by this entity. Aborts The number of unsuccessful TFTP file transfers that have been abnormally terminated. 20 Performance Views This section provides brief descriptions of the Performance views available for the Wellfleet devices in SPECTRUM. Performance views display performance statistics in terms of a set of transmission attributes, e.g., cell rates, frame rates, % error, etc. A typical view is shown in Figure 6. The instantaneous condition of each transmission attribute is recorded in a graph. The statistical information for each attribute is presented in the adjacent table. Generally, you determine performance at the device level through Performance views accessed from the Device and Application icons. You determine performance at the port/interface level through Performance views accessed from Interface icons. For more information on Performance views, refer to the SPECTRUM Views documentation. The following paragraphs list the performance attributes displayed for each Performance view supported by this management module. Configuration views let you view and modify current settings for the modeled device and its interfaces, ports, and applications. 23 Configuration Views Interface Configuration View Access: From the Icon Subviews menu for an Interface icon in the Device view, select IF Configuration. Interface Configuration View Software Information View Access: From the Icon Subviews menu for an Interface icon in the Device view, select Software Information. The Software Information view for the Wellfleet Series 5 Router provides detailed information on the Wellfleet router s version number, file information, server information, and software options. Major Version Number The Major Version Number of the Software Release running in the Communications Server. Minor Version Number The Minor Version Number of the Software Release running in the Communications Server. Image File The name of the binary load image file from which the Communications Server was loaded. Config File The name of the text file from which the current configuration of the Communications Server was read. Software Options The Software Options table provides the following information for the Wellfleet Series 5 Router. XNS/IPX Routing Indicates whether the XNS/IPX routing software option is active in the Communications Server s software configuration. AppleTalk Routing Indicates whether the AppleTalk routing software option is active in the Communications Server s software configuration. Bridge Indicates whether the Bridge software option is active in the Communications Server s software configuration. DECnet Routing Indicates whether the DECnet routing software option is active in the Communications Server s software configuration.
