4 Introduction This section introduces the SPECTRUM Device Management documentation for Cisco Content Service switches. This introduction to the Device Management documentation for Cisco Content Service switches contains the following information: Purpose and Scope Required Reading Supported Devices (Page 5) The SPECTRUM Model (Page 5) Purpose and Scope Use this documentation as a guide for managing Cisco Content Service switches with the SPECTRUM management module SM-CIS1009. The documentation describes the icons, menus, and views that enable you to remotely monitor, configure, and troubleshoot Cisco Content Service switches through software models in your SPECTRUM database. Only information specific to the supported management module is included under this documentation topic. For general information about device management using SPECTRUM and for explanations of basic SPECTRUM functionality and navigation techniques, refer to the topics listed under Required Reading. Required Reading To use this documentation effectively, you must be familiar with the information covered by the other SPECTRUM online documentation topics listed below. 5 Introduction Supported Devices The Cisco Content Service switches support TCPand UDP-based Web protocols wire-speed NAT, and intergrated IP Routing. They are built to solve problems that affect web-based business, such as increased traffic and flash crowds that swamp web sites, lost shopping carts, denial of service attacks, and slow downloads. Cisco Content Service CS 50 This switch has eight full-duplex Fast Ethernet ports and one optional Gigabit Ethernet port. The SPECTRUM Model Supported Devices SPECTRUM uses a single device model type, GenCiscoCSS, for modeling any of the supported Cisco Content Service Switch devices. GenCiscoCSS models are represented in SpectroGRAPH views by Device icons. As Figure 1 shows, the appearance of the Device icon varies slightly depending on the kind of view it appears in. Figure 1: Device Icon Subviews Menu Options Cisco Content Service CS 150 This switch has 12 or 16 full duplex Fast Ethernet ports or 12 Fast Ethernet plus two Gigabit Ethernet ports. Cisco Content Service Switches CS 800 This switch has up to 64 full duplex 100BASE-TX ports, up to BASE-TX ports with BASE-FX ports, up to 32 Gigabit Ethernet interfaces, or a combination of interfaces. 8 Device Views This section describes the Device views and subviews available for models of the Cisco Content Service switches in SPECTRUM. Device views use icons and labels to represent the modeled device and its components, such as modules and ports. There is one Device view for the Cisco Content Service switch: the Interface Device view. Interface Device View This view provides dynamic configuration and performance information for each of the device s serial/network I/O ports, which are represented by Interface icons in the bottom panel of the view, as shown in Figure 2. The middle panel of the view also displays a Device icon, which allows you to monitor device operation and access other device-specific views. 12 Device Topology Views This section provides brief descriptions of the Device Topology views available for models of Cisco Content ServiceswitchesinSPECTRUM. Device Topology views show the connections between a modeled device and other network entities. There is one type of Device Topology view for the Cisco Content Service switch: the Interface DevTop view. Interface Device Topology View Access: From the Icon Subviews menu for the Device icon, select DevTop > Interface. The lower panel of the Interface Device Topology view (Figure 4) uses interface icons to represent the device s serial/network I/O ports. These icons provide the same information and menu options as those in the Interface Device View (Page 8). If there is a device connected to a particular interface, a device icon appears on the vertical bar above the interface icon with an icon representing the network group that contains the device. For more information, refer to SPECTRUM Views. Access: From the Icon Subviews menu for the Device icon, select Application. Figure 5: Cisco Content Service Application View When a device model is created, SPECTRUM automatically creates models for each of the major and minor applications supported by the device. The Application view identifies all of these application models, shows their current condition status, and provides access to application-specific subviews. Figure 5 shows an Application view in its default view mode (icon) where each of the application models is represented by an Application icon (see Figure 6 on Page 14 for a close-up). The Application icons are arranged hierarchically under the Device icon, with major applications in the top row and their respective minor applications stacked directly below. 14 Application Icons When the Application view is in Icon mode, each of the application models is represented by an Application icon (Figure 6). Double-clicking the Model Name label (a) at the top of the icon opens the associated Model Information view see Model Information Views (Page 20). For some applications, the Model Type label (c) at the bottom of the icon is also a double-click zone, which opens an application-specific view. Any views accessible through these double-click zones are also accessible from the Application icon s Icon Subviews menu. Figure 6: Application Icon (b) a b c (c) (a) ddhcp83_ip RMONApp IP2_App Model Name Label / Model Information View Condition Status Label Model Type Label / Application-Specific View Supported Applications SPECTRUM s applications can be grouped within two general categories as follows: Applications associated with non proprietary MIBs (Common Applications). Applications associated with device-specific MIBs. Cisco Content Service Switches do not support these applications. Cisco Content Service Switches support only the common applications listed in Table 3. Table 3: Application Bridging (Gen_Bridge_App) MIB-II (SNMP2_Agent) Common Applications For more info, see... Bridging Applications MIB-II Applications The Standard RMON (RMONApp) is described in the RMON/RMON2 Management Module Guide.
