7 Prepring to instll or upgrde Service Impct Prepring to instll or upgrde Service 1 Impct This chpter descries how Service Impct, nd provides instructions for downloding nd stging required softwre. Understnding Service Impct pckging, rchitecture, nd deployment Service Impct 5.x for Resource Mnger 5.x or 6.x is pckged s Docker imge nd two ZenPcks (ZenPcks.zenoss.Impct nd ZenPcks.zenoss.ImpctServer). The files re ville from delivery.zenoss.com. The ZenPcks require customized instlltion procedure, which is documented in this guide. The Impct service includes the Service Impct server nd dtse. The instll process dds the service to the Infrstructure hierrchy in Control Center. Its requirements re miniml, compred to the other services in tht hierrchy. The resource pool you select for the Infrstructure hierrchy esily ccommodtes the Impct service. The zenimpctstte service includes the zenimpctstte demon. In Control Center, the service is included in the Events ctegory of the Zenoss hierrchy. Note Once Service Impct is instlled, Resource Mnger is dependent on Service Impct. If Service Impct services re unville, Resource Mnger continues to monitor devices, ut is unle to perform modeling, or properly instll or remove ZenPcks. Downloding required files To perform this procedure, you need: 7

Follow these steps: 1 In we rowser, nvigte to the downlod site, nd then log in. The downlod site is delivery.zenoss.com. 2 Downlod the Docker imge file for Service Impct. instll-zenoss-impct_version.run Replce Version with the most recent version numer ville on the downlod pge. 3 Downlod the Service Impct ZenPck files. ZenPcks.zenoss.ImpctServer-Version-py2.7.egg ZenPcks.zenoss.Impct-Version-py2.7.egg Replce Version with the most recent version numer ville on the downlod pge. 4 Use secure copy progrm to copy the Docker imge file nd the ZenPck files to the Control Center mster host. Stging required files on the mster host To perform this procedure, you need permission to log in to the Control Center mster host s root, or s user with superuser privileges. Use this procedure to instll the Docker imge nd to prepre the ZenPck files for instlltion. 1 Log in to the Control Center mster host s root, or s user with superuser privileges. 2 Stge the Docker imge file nd ZenPck files in /tmp. Crete directory in /tmp for the files. The directory must e locl (not mounted) nd must e redle, writle, nd executle y ll users. For exmple, /tmp/impct. c mkdir /tmp/impct Copy or move the Docker imge file nd ZenPck files to /tmp/impct. Chnge the file permissions. The files must hve the sme permissions s their prent directory. chmod -R 777 /tmp/impct 3 Instll the Service Impct imge. Chnge to the directory in which the Service Impct imge is locted. c cd /tmp/impct Instll the imge. yes./instll-zenoss-impct_*.run Synchronize the locl registry. serviced docker sync 8

9 Instlling or removing Service Impct Instlling or removing Service Impct 2 This chpter descries how to instll nd remove Service Impct in Resource Mnger 5.x nd 6.x deployments. Instlling Service Impct Before performing this procedure, complete the steps in Prepring to instll or upgrde Service Impct on pge 7. 1 Log in to the Control Center mster host s user with Control Center CLI privileges. 2 Crete snpshot: serviced service snpshot Zenoss.resmgr On completion, the serviced commnd returns the ID of the new snpshot. If the instlltion of ZenPck fils, you cn restore the snpshot creted in this step. For more informtion out restoring snpshot, refer to the Control Center Reference Guide. 3 Instll the ZenPcks.zenoss.ImpctServer ZenPck. Chnge directory to the directory in which the Service Impct ZenPck egg files re locted. For exmple, the /tmp/impct directory: cd /tmp/impct Instll the ZenPck. Replce Version with the ZenPck version numer: serviced service run zope zenpck-mnger instll \ ZenPcks.zenoss.ImpctServer-Version-py2.7.egg 4 Strt the Infrstructure/Impct service, nd then verify tht it strted. Removing the ZenPck lso removes the zenimpctstte service. serviced service run zope zenpck-mnger \ uninstll ZenPcks.zenoss.Impct 6 Stop nd remove the Infrstructure/Impct service, nd then remove the ZenPcks.zenoss.ImpctServer ZenPck. Stop the Infrstructure/Impct service, then wit 10 seconds. serviced service stop Infrstructure/Impct 10

For ny given upgrde, you only need to perform one of the procedures. Prerequisites Before performing n upgrde, Complete the procedures in Prepring to instll or upgrde Service Impct on pge 7. Resource Mnger should e running normlly t the eginning of n updte. The procedures in this section stop, strt, or restrt specific services, ut the ssumed strting point is Resource Mnger running normlly. Export service models. As est prctice, exporting efore n upgrde provides quick restore option if the upgrde fils. If necessry, you cn uninstll, remove the ZenPck, instll gin with the working version, nd then import from the exported grph. For more informtion out importing nd exporting service models, refer to the Zenoss Service Impct User Guide. Upgrding oth Service Impct ZenPcks Before performing this procedure, complete prerequisites listed in Upgrding Service Impct on pge 12. Perform this procedure to upgrde oth Zenpcks, ZenPcks.zenoss.Impct nd ZenPcks.zenoss.ImpctServer. 1 Log in to the Control Center rowser interfce. 2 In the Appliction column of the Applictions tle, click Resource Mnger. 3 Scroll down to the Services tle, nd then locte the Impct service in the Infrstructure section. 4 Click Impct, nd then locte the Stte Chnge Queue Length grph. 5 Log in to the Control Center mster host s user with serviced CLI privileges. 6 Stop the zenimpctstte service, nd then verify tht it stopped. Stop the zenimpctstte service. serviced service stop zenimpctstte Verify tht the service is stopped. wtch serviced service sttus zenimpctstte 7 In the Control Center rowser interfce, monitor the length of the stte chnge queue. When the queue length is 0 (zero), proceed to the next step. 12
