29 Landscape Overview Ahead of the Design-Builder, Metro has employed an arborist and a landscape architect to draft plans Same landscape architect who drafted original median plans Metro has met with Miracle Mile Civic Coalition/Wilshire Median Advisory Group Washingtonias around Wilshire/Fairfax 29
30 Tree Removal Estimate 100 trees need to be removed Trees were evaluated on: Size Health Condition Viability Suitability for boxing, storage and reuse Replacement methods These factors determine the eligibility for relocation Mexican fan palms around Wilshire /La Cienega 30
31 Tree Relocation/Adoption Relocation can be difficult due to: Condition/health of trees Cost exceeds current value Timing of season Size Metro has reached out to 30 organizations to gauge interest including: Santa Monica Mountains Conversancy, California Native Plant Society, Tree People, Million Trees LA, Griffith Park, LA Zoo, County Parks and Rec, LA Conservation Corp, and local gardens and nurseries Of those interested, many have specified certain criteria that the trees must meet, especially sizes of trees. Will relocate trees to Crenshaw Yard Jacaranda around Wilshire/La Brea 31
32 Tree Removal Process City of Los Angeles Metro will submit tree removal application to Urban Forestry Division (UFD) UFD will submit report to Board of Public Works for approval 3+ trees requires 30-day posting period to allow for public comment Tree removal notification system Trees will be removed incrementally based on construction phasing Anticipate first removals beginning 2015 Lagerstroemia around Wilshire/Fairfax 32
33 Landscape Plan Overview Final Environmental Impact Report (FEIR) outlines required landscape plan Design-Builder responsible for finalization of landscape plan Landscape palate dictated by existing palate and by city requirements Miracle Mile Civic Coalition will be included in draft discussions Workshops will be hosted by Design-Builder for community input Trees will be replaced 2:1 City of Los Angeles has agreed to 36 box trees New irrigation, controllers and lighting for affected areas Furnish and install new Miracle Mile median signs Phoenix dactylifera around Wilshire/Fairfax 33
