Year 5/6 Key Skills to be covered, taken from Lancashire Key Learning Document pitching at the correct year group and differentiation within plan for different groups Be specific in the key skills, and make them more understandable for children. Consider what it is YOU feel the children should learn as well as the National Curriculum: We will use criteria to evaluate, design and layout of a range of resources including web sites, pages on Virtual Learning Environments, online resources and presentations. We will select suitable text, sounds, video and graphics from other sources, and import into own work. We will plan and create a presentation with pages with non-linear links (e.g. using hyperlinks to other pages) We will use consistency across a document - same style of font, colour, body text size, etc. We will use transitions, animations (e.g. gif files) and special effects in presentations and video editing software. We will use justify, tabs, insert and replace to edit and improve work. We will export images, presentations and movies in formats appropriate for the purpose and use them in multimedia presentations. We will plan and create a short animated sequence, using a storyboard and timeline. We will recognise the features of good design in different printed and electronic texts, (e.g. a poster, website, presentation, know potential to persuade audience with images and text). We will be able to evaluate presentations and make improvements. through peer and self assessment We will abide by copyright rules Possible Cross-curricular links, especially opportunities for English, Mathematics and Computing within teaching: English links Reading/writing of the powerpoint Mathematics links Computing links Other links n/a n/a History and Art The Egyptians Possible Experiences including visits/visitors/other: Consider what could augment your planning to really enthuse the children in your class: make it about a topic- suggestion history task create one PowerPoint presentation with all features and publish on website Display/Resources ideas: Consider what resources could be brought into the classroom and what display work could be completed either before/during or after topic is taught: homework task: Task: make a powerpoint at home (there are similar free apps as well) using all you have learned. Make it about one technique you have learned to help other classes e.g. how to embed a video, how to insert a gif file, how to record audio

Session Key Objective from skills listed above (What is it that you want the children to learn?) Possible Activities including use of Computing and other technologies, and showing at least 3 differentiations Task is to add to a powerpoint presentation each lesson, based on topic/science work. NB 15 laptops- pair/group as you see fit. Do LA need to work as a group with support? Meaning HA could work individually? Outcomes/Evidence of what they have learnt (Where will this be found? Will it be in a book? Topic book? Display? Photographic evidence? Possible extension into homework if appropriate to enhance and deepen learning Teachers: Help with powerpoint: part 1 Microsoft beginners guide part 2 1 We will use criteria to evaluate, design and layout of a range of resources including web sites, pages on Virtual Learning Environments, online resources and presentations. We will recognise the features of good design in different printed and electronic texts, (e.g. a poster, website, presentation, know potential to persuade audience with images and text). WALT evaluate the design and layout of PowerPoints Starter: 5 mins quick draw design a new mobile phone- what would it look like and what features would it have and why? Discuss (stylish, sleek, colour scheme, uses images and aminations?) Task today: Search for existing powerpoints on your topic i.e. Egyptians and evaluate We will use our evaluations (positives and negatives to plan and design our own) Together look at a presentation: e.g. What are the positives/ negatives? What should our evaluation criteria be? write together something like. 1. Purpose of the presentation: to entertain or to inform or to persuade etc. 2. What bits are interesting? 3. Which bits are boring? 4. How is the information given? 5. What images, videos or links are used? 6. Special effects Activities: LA- search for 1 powerpoint presentation- give them the above criteria to evaluate- write a list of positives and negatives - support MA- As LA but compare a couple of presentations and put their positives and negatives in word document HA- As ma but let them search for other types of presentations- can they find other effects that enhance the presentation (i.e. prezi) Review- together create a list of criteria to make a really interesting but informative presentation (i.e. videos, links, images, not too much writing, key points, a colour theme etc.) LA paper list of positives and negatives MA and HA word document of above Class list of design criteria for use to use. 2 We will plan and create a presentation with pages with non- Starter: 2 minute google- how do you hyperlink to other pages in a powerpoint? Office webpage : 8b0acf7df6d9 Written plan of powerpoint including notes on all design criteria Can you find any other types of presentation? Powerpoint, prezi etc.

linear links (e.g. using hyperlinks to other pages) We will use consistency across a document - same style of font, colour, body text size, etc. WALT plan a powerpoint Task Today: Plan using good features we identified last lesson Apply what we have found out that we like from designing mobile phones to our design criteria today Review design criteria from yesterday and add in the other elements we will teach in the upcoming lessons. Your design criteria might look like: Interesting and informative Colour scheme Title page What you will learn page (contents) Key information (not too much text) Uses: images, gif files, a video, animation, sound files Hyperlinks to other pages and to websites Edited to include animations, transitions and special effects (NB we will make a short 1 min animation over the next two lessons- so this could be about 1 subtopic) Model planning powerpoint on paper- the main thing to plan is where you will link slides together. The easiest way to do this is to have a title page and then a mini contents page and you will link from the contents page to other pages e.g. Model adding other note according to design criteria (see example plan in resources) LA- choose a couple of subtopics and only have one page per topic (max 6 pages in total) Design criteria has the basics: title page, what you will learn page (2 subtopics), colour scheme, hyperlinks between slides, images, an animation, animations on text and some transitions. MA- 3 subtopics that can have multiple slides max 10 slides

Design criteria: title page, what you will learn page (3 subtopics), colour scheme, hyperlink between slides and to one web page, images, gif files, an animation, sound files, animations on text and images and transitions HA 3 + subtopics and challenge them to hyperlink more slides together (for a purpose and where it makes sense) All design criteria: Interesting and informative Colour scheme Title page What you will learn page (contents) Key information (not too much text) Uses: images, gif files, a video, animation, sound files (multiple uses of each) Hyperlinks to other pages and to websites Edited to include animations, transitions and special effects 3 We will plan and create a short animated sequence, using a storyboard and timeline. WALT plan and create a stop animation Review art gallery style peer review chn walk round and look at design of each plan what do they like? Where have they found an idea to magpie for their own presentation? Starter: moral thunk- discuss Do computers have intelligence? If so, what are they? Some videos of AI: Task today: plan and create short stop animation sequence to go in their powerpoint presentation Watch below stop animation video, or similar. our task today is to create a short (30 secs to 1 min) animation for our presentation. Photos for stop animation taken on ipads Can you make a movie at home? Quick plan of different shorts taken and one background scene e.g. it might be the explorer walking through a tomb or an Egyptian writing hieroglyphics etc. Activities model 5 min plan sketch different photos needed Create background (Nb this could be one page print off to save time) Take photos not moving the ipad moving the characters only a bit at a time LA- one background and plan a simple sequence where someone walks across MA- one background- plan a sequence with props and different movements HA- free plan couple of backgrounds and use props as they see fit Review- use airplay and flick through photos to get an impression of what the stop animation will be like. Positives and negatives share.

4 We will export images, presentations and movies in formats appropriate for the purpose and use them in multimedia presentations. We will use transitions, animations (e.g. gif files) and special effects in presentations and video editing software. WALT edit and export a movie Starter: develop logical reasoning Answer: logical to say either all 3 will tell the truth or all 3 will lie so the third islander will say the same Task today: Edit and export animation in moviemaker (use transitions and special effects) 1. Model using transfer app to transfer photos from ipads and save in pupil shared area in an appropriate folder (you tube video of how to do this Saved stop animation movie 2. Model importing images into movie maker 3. using edit functions to create a movie. a. Edit photo duration (needs to be quick to animate it) go to edit> duration b. Add title go to home>title c. Put transition between title and first photo (don t do this for others as it needs to be a normal change) go to animations lots to choose from 4. Extension : for HA add sound/music (find and save music and import using add music or record sound directly in program for a voiceover) Go to home> add music for any music downloaded Or Go to home> record narration to directly record a voiceover

5. Export video go to file>save movie> for computer Activities LA- import images and add title and save movie with support MA- import images, add title and simple transitions as well as editing durations and save movie HA- as MA but explore other editing functions - e.g. ass music/sound Review share movies 5 We will plan and create a presentation with pages with nonlinear links (e.g. using hyperlinks to other pages) We will use consistency across a document - same style of font, colour, body text size, etc We will use justify, tabs, Starter: DIFFERENT PERSPECTIVES / THINKING HATS Computer games are good for you. Give each table a different role: non-gamers, gamers, game developers, teachers, parents, government What do non-gamers believe? What do gamers believe? What do games developers think? What do teachers think? What do our parents think? What does the government think? Task today: Create basic PowerPoint with hyperlinked pages and consistent style Model using written plans to create a basic powerpoint with a colour theme and simple titles and facts discuss how to keep consistency in font, size of titles nad text and colour Saved powerpoints in pupil shared area Could you show someone at home how to hyperlink powerpoint slides?

insert and replace to edit and improve work WALT create a powerpoint with consistency and hyperlinked pages You could do this by teaching chn to use right click and duplicate slide: 6 We will select suitable text, sounds, video and graphics from other sources, and import into own work. We will abide by copyright rules WALT find and import media into powerpoint Model hyperlinking different pages together see planning lesson How to do this: Microsoft Office webpage : 239c6c94-d52f-480c-99ae-8b0acf7df6d9 LA- create simple powerpoint with at least one hyperlink between pages with support MA- create a colour themed powerpoint with some consistency in font/text size with at least one hyperlink between pages independently HA- create a consistent powerpoint (colour, size of text and themes) with several hyperlinked pages. Review- art gallery of our powerpoints so far- what do we like or not like? Starter: how are images transferred by the computer? They are simplified into pixels squares and then coded as numbers See sheet in resources to let chn have a go at create images from coded numbers. Task today: find images, videos and sounds file to import into our powerpoint Save powerpoints with images, gifs, sound and videos

1. Review copyright and plagiarism rules and how to cite where an image ro information is from 2. Model searching for images to use in powerpoint copy and paste- check do I need to copy and paste website to cite where I got them from? 3. Model searching for sound files or music- be careful with copyright here and importing these into powerpoint (see pdf help file) Go to INSERT> Audio and you can choose from PC (i.e. one you have downloaded and saved) or record audio check do I need to copy and paste website to cite where I got them from? 4. Model searching for a video (use vimeo be careful when searching don t type in Egyptian instead use kids: kids ancient Egyptian if you tube doesn t work) check do I need to copy and paste website to cite where I got them from? On vimeo you can download videos- save to computer and then import. Go to INSERT> Video> from my computer Or if using you tube: go to Share underneath the video And copy the web address Then on Powerpoint go to INSERT>VIDEO>Online Video

and paste the web address Activities: LA copy and paste images and record a sound file directly into powerpoint (extend to video with support) MA- copy and paste images and find, download and insert music/sound file, and video HA- several images, sound files and videos 7 We will use transitions, animations (e.g. gif files) and special effects in presentations and video editing software. WALT use animations and special effects to improve our powerpoint. Review- view some groups powerpoints and peer evaluate. Starter: write a dummy s guide what is a gif file? Chn google if they need to Task today: improve PowerPoint using animations, gif files, transitions and editing techniques. 1. Model finding and inserting gif files. (gifs are short animated images to find them search what you want and gif (e.g. Pharaoh gif) in image search and copy and paste like normal images) 2. Model adding animations to powerpoint for text and images including how to make them appear with previous or on click and reordering in animation pane. Powerpoints saved with gif files and animations Task: make a powerpoint at home (there are similar free apps as well) using all you have learned. Make it about one technique you have learned to help other classes e.g. how to embed a video, how to insert a gif file, how to record audio Activities LA- chn add one gif file and some animations with support MA- add some gif files and animations including using with previous and reordering animations

8 We will be able to evaluate presentations and make improvements. through peer and self assessment WALT evaluate and improve our powerpointstarte: 9 10 HA- freer choice using gifs and animations explore other editing techniques such as timings Review share powerpoints Starter: draw evaluate no words allowed! discuss drawings to unpick the concept. Task today: self and peer evaluate powerpoints based on design criteria and then improve Look back at our original design criteria: Interesting and informative Colour scheme Title page What you will learn page (contents) Key information (not too much text) Uses: images, gif files, a video, animation, sound files (multiple uses of each) Hyperlinks to other pages and to websites Edited to include animations, transitions and special effects Review each ourselves What would we like to improve? In a group peer assess powerpoints against design criteria give 2 positives and something to improve go and improve it! Differentiation: different design criteria see planning lesson LA- less criteria MA- most HA-all Self and peer evaluation work saved/ or on paper Improved and finished powerpoint saved in pupil shared area
