4 Executive summary This deliverable is a supplementary document to the web site of the GET Service project. Its main scope is to describe in brief the sections of the web site, as well as to provide screenshots presenting what it is actually described. The aim of the web site is to ensure that the GET Service Consortium has a main and useful channel for disseminating the project s results as well as provide information on news and events taking place in the context of GET Service project. The web site will typically but not limited to the following types of information: Useful information in the project Project s progress and up-to-date information Project s structures Public deliverables Dissemination material GET Service ICT GET Service consortium 3

5 1 Introduction The main objective of the GET Service project is to develop a Service Platform for Green European Transportation (GET). The platform should facilitate real-time aggregated planning, synchro-modal (re-)planning, reduction of empty miles and co-modal planning. Effective communication to potential stakeholders including transportation companies, governments and research institutions is essential in achieving this goal. A website has been built that serves as a major dissemination tool for GET Service s activities. It is hosted by GET Service partner EXODUS. The website will provide a constant, up-to-date flow of information on the project results and findings. It includes the project description and provides access to public documents, links with the partners involved in the project and related projects websites. For an efficient post-project exploitation of the results it is essential for the website to remain accessible for the public for longer than the project duration. Therefore the consortium will keep it alive for at least four years after the project end. The website targets both a transportation and logistics audience and an information systems audience. For internal communication and hosting of restricted and confidential content there is a collaboration site ( member s area ) that is also hosted by EXODUS. Although a link exists from the public site the collaboration site is password protected and not accessible to the general public. The remainder of this document will focus on the publicly accessible GET Service website. 1.1 Addressing Review Comments Review Comments The deliverable could be vastly improved by providing some more information about the impact of the website, such as usage statistics why some elements are like this. and who they are addressed to The links with social networking channels should be activated and made popular with some relevant information Answer Two more sections were added concerning the statistics (Section 3) and the social media strategy (Section 4). Additions throughout the document and mainly in Section 2 address the rationale behind the design. In the introductory part of Section 2 a presentation of the segments that the site addresses was added. Section 4 includes details relevant to the use of social media. 2 Web Site Design and Implementation The GET Service website was implemented using e-centric which is a CMS platform developed by EXODUS, and is hosted in a web server owned by EXODUS. Accessibility will be obtained through the URL The website is based on a simple design, which is fast loading, browser compatible (Internet Explorer, Mozilla Firefox, Opera, Google Chrome, et cetera) and focuses on the content. All pages provide a header with the GET Service logo at the top of the web page while additional links to the European commission webpage and the Seventh Framework Programme are also included in the left column. For the logo and the graphics in general (top header, colours, fonts etc) Frisbi ( was responsible, creating a design dedicated to the project house style. GET Service ICT GET Service consortium 4

6 The website is separated into eleven sections. Two key menus, one horizontal and one vertical are positioned in the web site, consisting of seven and four key buttons, respectively. The vertical key formation is located at the left side of the website page while the horizontal one is located at the top left side of the webpage. The horizontal buttons are always available for access, during user s browsing through the entire website while the vertical row of buttons appears only where needed. The main rationale behind the design is to follow a unified approach in the main dissemination means (website and flyers). So the aim is to create a brochure like feeling to the visitor. Thus the headers, colours, pictures and fonts are similar, in both flyer and web-site. Stakeholder or audience groups for the GET Service project are diverse, ranging from technology industries, software companies, academic and research groups and general public. The groups and their characteristics that the website addresses are the following: Academic visitors: who are interested in the research and publications taking place in logistics, business process management and green transportation fields Industrial logistics providers: who are interested on what taking place in their field for adopting cost-effective solutions in terms of time and cost of transportation as well as the CO 2 emission which will promote their social responsibility as companies Software development and business process management companies: who want more information on the edge technological advantages in the field of BPM, planning and mobile applications as well as identify basic directions on the progress of the corresponding trends General public: who would like to get more details on research initiatives taking place in European level as well as get understandable and easy-to-access pieces of information on the GET Service project European Commission: which is interested, in general, on the progress of the project, the events that consortium members have participated, produced publications and cooperative activities between GET Service and other FP7 projects GET Service ICT GET Service consortium 5

7 2.1 Home Area The Home area presents GET Service project at a glance. This page includes the project basic aim (right banner) as well as it contains a one-pager style project overview that the reader can use to obtain a quick overview of the project. The information maintained here is the same as the one presented in project s flyer. The visitor has a quick and direct access to the goals and impact of the project which is explicitly highlighted with the use of corresponding figures. GET Service: Efficient Transportation Planning and Execution The GET Service platform provides transportation planners with the means to plan transportation routes more efficiently and to respond quickly to unexpected events during transportation. To this end, it connects to existing transportation management systems and improves on their performance by enabling sharing of selected information between transportation partners, logistics service providers and authorities. In doing so, the GET Service platform will help to: improve the modal split;; reduce the number of empty miles;; and reduce transportation times. This enables transportation companies to operate more efficiently. By improving the modal split in Europe by just 2% and the number of empty miles by just 1%, the total energy cost of transportation can be reduced by around 2.3 million liters of diesel, while the total CO2 emission in the EU can be decreased by 6.5 million tonnes CO2. GET Service The GET Service platform improves the efficiency of transportation by supporting commonly occurring scenarios at logistics service providers. These scenarios show that by sharing information, the GET Service platform reduces planning and re-planning effort, facilitates the selection of better transportation options when planning and enables a planner to efficiently change a transportation plan as it is being executed. GET Service: Reduce cost, CO2 emission and Transportation time The GET Service platform considers the following scenarios: 1. Real-time planning. While most transportation plans are made based on scheduled departure and arrival times, a planner can benefit from real-time insight into current delays of connecting modes of transportation, current handling times at terminals, and current administrative delays. Better insight enables tighter planning by reducing slack and taking changed cut-off times into account. At the same time, it reduces the risk of missing connections, which encourages planners to use a better modal split. 2. Optimal resource selection. Much time is lost with determining the availability of a transportation resource. Real-time insight into the available transportation capacity in a certain area significantly reduces empty miles, because the closest transportation resource can easily be selected. When real-time information on multiple modes of transportation is available, this can also improve the model split. Figure 1: "Home" area screenshot GET Service ICT GET Service consortium 6

Box 513, Pav D MB Eindhoven The Netherlands Figure 11: "Contact" area screenshot 3 Statistics The statistics of the web-site are extracted using Google Analytics 1 and are reviewed on monthly basis in order to review the impact of the project. Based on this, modifications on the content and the design of the GET Service size may take place targeting to a more active interaction and engagement of the visitor. The current design of the GET Service website went live from April Until now (24/02/2014) 1195 visits have taken place, from 718 visitors. The average visit duration is about 3 minutes and 42 seconds and the percentage of new visits is 58.74%. By looking the number of visits per there in upward trend in time with a peak on September 2013 when the Y1 of the project completed (Figure 12). 1 GET Service ICT GET Service consortium 16

However there are visits also from countries outside Europe like United States and India. The number of this type of visits is expected to increase with the participation of GET Service members to international ITS conferences (e.g. ITA Europe/World and TRA). 4 Social Media The use of social media is an alternative dissemination channel. For the time being there is an active Twitter account ( that is also available through the GET Service web site. Currently (24/02/2013), the account has 10 followers and follows 9 other accounts. Unfortunately the usage of social media is not as active as it should be, mainly due to the fact that the first tangible project results were available from the end of Y1. However during Y2 and Y3 this situation will be reversed. The consortium targets 30 new followers per year in Twitter. Additionally a LinkedIn 2 account and a YouTube 3 channel will be created, as supplementary channels of social GET Service ICT GET Service consortium 17

19 interaction targeting to the creation of a wider user basis and to the collaboration with corresponding work groups and exchange of knowledge. The more active usage of social media will bring modifications to design of the web-site. These include videos uploaded to the GET Service s YouTube channel and published to the web-site, the presentation of twits from the project s twitter account and following accounts and the inclusion of links for visiting the pages of these social media. These changes are expected to go live at the end of M18 of the project. Finally the participation of GET Service s members to international conferences gives a great chance for more intensive dissemination of social media. The work-plan for the usage of social media until the end of Y2 is the following: M18: Implementation of design changes in the web-site M18: Creation of LinkedIn and YouTube accounts M20: Post to GET Service web-site of a corresponding to the project video M22: 10 new twits by the end of M22 M24: 30 new twitter followers by the end of Y2 GET Service ICT GET Service consortium 18
