HOW TO CAPTURE LIVE ACTIVITIES ON THE COMPUTER SCREEN USING CAMTASIA RELAY

1 Updated 02/27/12 Camtasia Relay allows users to quickly create and publish lectures and presentations occurring on computer screen with an audio recording or narration. An Active Directory (AD) account and Camtasia Relay program installed on your computer are required (please see How to Access to Camtasia Relay at USA job aid). You also need a microphone connected to your computer if you want to record your audio. Running Camtasia Relay 1. Run the Camtasia Relay program on your computer. Figure 1. Camtasia Relay program icon. 2. Log in screen is displayed. Type your username and password (AD account). Click Log In button.

USING CAMTASIA RELAY Note: If the program is installed on a computer where you are the sole user, select the Remember Me checkbox to remember the login credentials. 3. The Camtasia Relay interface is prompted. Select the profile, type the presentation title and the description. Figure 3. Camtasia Relay interface. 4. To select and adjust the proper audio device, click the Microphone icon on the top. Figure 4. Audio device icon. 5. To create hot keys for starting and stopping the recording, click the Hotkeys icon. 2

Testing Click Test button to start capturing activities on the computer screen without saving and publishing the presentation. Please note that you might need to change the screen resolution if the captured content on the screen is not readable. The recommended screen resolution is 800x600. Recording 1. Click Rec button to start the recording. You have three seconds to get ready. Once it starts, the Camtasia Relay recorder will be minimized and shown on the task bar. 3

4 Figure 8. Camtasia Relay recorder. 2. Use your hot keys to stop recording or right click the Camtasia Relay recorder icon located at the task bar and select Stop. Figure 9. Camtasia Relay recorder minimized and located at the task bar. 3. The Camtasia Relay Review is prompted. Click the Play button to view the presentation. Trimming 1. If the presentation needs to be trimmed at the beginning and at the end, click the Trimming button. 4

The timeline to be deleted will turn red. Click the red X button to undo the trimming process. Figure 11. Set presentation start. 3. Slide the timeline bar where you want the presentation to end, and click Set Presentation End icon. The timeline to be deleted will turn red. Click the red X button to undo the trimming process. Figure 12. Set presentation end. Submitting 1. Before clicking Submit button, select a profile. Please see How to Access Camtasia Relay at USA job aid for more details about the Camtasia Relay profiles. 2. Type your presentation title and description. 5

6 3. Click Submit button if you want to publish the presentation on the Camtasia Relay server or click Discard if you do not want the presentation to be published. 4. Once submitted, the Presentation Complete message will be shown. Click OK. Figure 13. Presentation Complete message. 5. To see if the presentation has been published or not, go to Log in with your AD account to access your Camtasia Relay account on the server. 6. Select Presentation menu.
