1 Jan 2012 ONYX White Paper Zund Cut Center Workflow included in Cutting Patch for X10 Build 10.1 Preface This document covers information regarding the addition of the Zund Cut Center Workflow in the Cutting Patch for X10 Build 10.1 Please note this cutter patch will only work for the X10.1 version. Additionally, there are other cutter updates included in the patch, however this document only covers the Zund portion of the update. Please refer to the document Contour_Cutting_Workflow.pdf for details on setting up a print and cut workflow in ONYX. This document can be downloaded by visiting and search for Contour Cutting Workflow in ONYX X10. Installing the Patch The addition of the Zund Cut Center Workflow are included in the Cutting Patch for X10 build 10.1 and can be installed from the ONYX_x10_1_cutter_patch.msi file. Run the installer and follow the prompts in the installation wizard. Configuring the ONYX CUT-Server for use with Zund CutCenter The purpose of the cutter patch for the Zund CutCenter driver for ONYX CUT-Server is to allow simple, low-maintenance integration between the ONYX RIP and Zund cutter workflows. This is done by allowing ONYX CUT-Server access to information about the Zund Cutter Media Profiles. In order to do this, you must Export All Medias from within the Zund Cut Manager. First, create a directory and save the exported medias to the new directory. This example uses the directory \ONYX10\CUT-Server\ZCC Materials. This should be done before running the ONYX CUT-Server. 1

2 Once the Medias have been exported from the Zund Cut Manager, launch ONYX CUT-Server. Click the Manage Cutters button, and select the Zund CutCenter driver. Click the settings button next to the Zund CutCenter driver, and select a port. Cut to Folder allows jobs to be output to the hot folder configured in the Zund CutCenter. TCP/IP allows jobs to be sent directly to Zund CutCenter queue. Note the use of Port Number

3 By selecting Automatically Cut New Files, the ONYX CUT-Server will send the file to the Zund CutCenter as soon as it is received from the RIP, without the need for operator interaction. Next, configure the Default setting for the Zund CutCenter driver. ONYX CUT-Server will automatically prompt for the location of the Zund Cutter Media Profiles, exported in the first step listed above. Once the location is selected, the settings dialog will be displayed. 3

4 It is possible to create multiple settings, and select any one as the default. This dialog will be displayed for each setting created. In addition to Speed, Standard, and Quality mode selection, this dialog allows the user to select the two different ways of assigning the Zund Cutter Media Profiles: Use Media Name From Job, and Select Media Name. Use Media Name from Job requires the least amount of user interaction during production, but involves an extra step during setup. This setting expects that the Media in the ONYX RIP-Queue have the same name as the Zund CutCenter Media Profiles. This is fairly easy to achieve by renaming the media in the ONYX10\db\ Printers\printer directory to the same name as the matching Zund CutCenter Media Profile. Simply select the name of the Zund Media Profile (minus the.xml extension) and paste it onto the ONYX RIP-Queue folder for the media (or a copy). As long as the ONYX media name and the Zund CutCenter Media Profile names match, the settings will automatically be used. Please note the name change should be done while RIP-Queue is closed. 4

5 The other option is to Select Media Name. This is the option to use when the ONYX Media name does not match the Zund CutCenter Media Profile name. Selecting this option enables the drop-down list with all of the Zund CutCenter Media Profiles listed, and every job that is cut using this settings file will use this media profile. It is possible to create multiple settings, each with a different Media Profile selected. However, the current CUT-Server architecture requires that the Zund CutCenter Media export directory be selected for each setting configuration. Automatic Layer/Cut Method matching The Zund Cut Center driver will read the Cut Methods available for the media, and automatically look for matches with the ONYX layer names. For example, if the customer is cutting on Canvas, the driver will compare the ONYX layer name to each available method in the Zund cutter mode. The ONYX layer name must contain the Zund method name, but does not need to match exactly. For example, an ONYX layer named CutContourThru-Cut will be matched to the Thru-Cut method in the Zund cut mode. 5

6 Valid Cut Methods are: Register Draw Score Crease Kiss-cut Punch Drill Engrave V-cut Bevel-cut Thru-cut Route Not every media will support every method. If a layer/method is not specified, or the specified layer/method is not supported by the media, then the job will appear in the Zund Cut Center as not ready until the cut paths are assigned to a method. Adding Registration Marks during job preparation While the ONYX RIP-Queue will automatically add registration marks to the perimeter of the job, sometimes additional registration marks within the image are desired. This can be accomplished with the Zund Cut Center workflow by creating a circle mark with a black fill and stroke named CutContourRegister. The black fill will print the mark on the job, and the ONYX cutter driver will put the stroke on the Register layer, which Zund Cut Center will then interpret as a registration mark. NOTE: It may be necessary to open and close the Register layer in Cut Center for the application to recognize the marks as registration marks. With this configuration, printing from ONYX RIP-Queue and cutting with the Zund CutCenter should be a simple, highly automated process. ONYX Graphics Inc S.
