4 ARRIS nd Accessories DWDM/CWDM Modules ARRIS DWDMs/CWDMs enble simultneous trnsmission of opticl signls t multiple wvelengths on one fiber. The wvelengths re locted in the CWDM region (1430 to 1620 nm) or the DWDM region (1528 to 1563 nm). DWDMs/CWDMs cn be used in either unidirectionl or bidirectionl pplictions, nd therefore, cn serve s mux or demux simultneously for different wvelengths, typiclly using demuxes t ech end to chieve dequte chnnel isoltion. WDMs re typiclly used to conserve fiber usge in system pplictions in which fibers re limited. WDMs cn be used for unidirectionl nd bidirectionl trnsport pplictions. Unidirectionl trnsport pplictions typiclly consist of two trnsmitters (1310 nd 1550 nm region), which re combined using the WDM onto single fiber nd sent to receiving node where the signls re demultiplexed, using nother WDM, nd sent to seprte receivers. Bidirectionl trnsport pplictions typiclly consist of end to end pplictions where trnsmitter nd receiver (1310 nd 1550 nm region) reside t ech end of the network nd re combined using WDMs for single fiber trnsport. 11 ARRIS nd Accessories OC Series Opticl Couplers ARRIS OC series dul window opticl couplers re bsed on n rry of up to seven opticl 1x2 coupler/splitters pckged in protective enclosure. Ech crd hs 1 or 2 inputs nd 2 to 32 outputs, depending on the model, nd cn pss wvelengths in the 1310 nm nd 1550 nm regions. Crds cn be dded in series to ccommodte more thn eight outputs. The opticl loss from the input to ech output cn be vried to mximize the efficiency of the opticl links. 15 ARRIS nd Accessories Opticl Switch The OSW series 1x2 opticl switch is n LGX style plug in module in single width enclosure comptible with the ARRIS OS1000 opticl shelf tht provides utomtic switching between signl sources. The opticl switch utosenses the loss of light on the ctive port nd toggles the optic switch, trnsferring from the ctive to the lternte port. In Mode 1, Port A functions s the primry port nd, by design, offers higher qulity performnce thn the redundnt pth t Port B. If the light t Port A fils, the unit switches utomticlly to Port B. When the light is restored to Port A, the unit lso switches bck to Port A. In Mode 2, the performnce of the primry nd redundnt pths re equl. If the current ctive port is Port A nd the light fils, the unit switches utomticlly to Port B.
