5 This RF450 Demo Kit cn e rented for two weeks. The kit cn help you determine the est ntenn options for your system nd ensure tht the rdios will work in your system's environment. NOTE The rentl time period strts when Cmpell Scientific ships the Demo Kit nd ends when Cmpell Scientific receives the kit. A weekly rentl rte will e chrged for kits tht re returned lte. 1. Unpck Equipment Verify tht you hve ll of the equipment (see the enclosed Component Checklist nd Figures 1-1 through 1-3). After unpcking, sve the ox, fom, nd Component Checklist. 7 2. Antenns, Antenn Cles, Surge Protector, nd Accessories Descriptions Omnidirectionl ntenns re normlly used t the se sttion nd nery field sttions. Ygi ntenns re needed t distnt sttions or other specil cses. Descriptions of the ntenns nd ntenn cles included with this kit re listed elow: Indoor, Omnidirectionl dbd, ½ wve whip. SMA connector ttches directly to the Antenn Connection; no ntenn cle is needed dbd, dipole, with window/wll mount. The ntenn is shipped with 10 ft. cle tht hs n SMA femle connector tht ttches to Antenn Connection. Outdoor, Omnidirectionl dbd with rugged FM2 ntenn mounts nd Type N femle connector. It requires n ntenn cle to connect to the Antenn Connection. Outdoor, Ygi dbd, with mounts nd Type N femle connector. It requires n ntenn cle to connect to the Antenn Connection. Plese note tht ecuse the FCC limits EIRP to 36 dbm, use of this ntenn my require reduction of the RF450 s trnsmit power. Antenn Cles nd Surge Protectors for Outdoor Antenns Recommended for cle lengths less thn 10 ft. COAXSMA-L10 LMR195 ntenn cle. It hs type N Mle Connector tht ttches to the ntenn nd type SMA connector tht ttches to the Antenn Connection. Recommended for cle lengths greter thn 10 ft nd/or use with lightning protection COAXNTN-L30 Low-loss (4.1 db/100 ) RG8 ntenn cle with type N mle to type N mle connectors. This cle is shipped with the surge protector ttched Surge Suppressor Kit is recommended when the length of the ntenn cle is greter thn 10 feet. The surge suppressor helps protect the rdio from electricl dischrge eing conducted down the ntenn cle. It includes COAXSMA-L1.5 cle for ttchment to the Antenn Connection. 8 3. Bse Sttion The plstic enclosure contining the Mster Rdio should reside t the se sttion (see Figure 3-1). CTS TX CD CS I/O RF450 1 Wtt Spred Spectrum MASTER SN: FIGURE 3-1. The Mster Rdio Attch the rrel plug on the wll chrger to the connector on the plstic enclosure leled Chrger Connection (see Figure 3-2), nd then plug the wll chrger in wll socket. To turn power on, flip the PS100 s switch to the on position. FIGURE 3-2. Chrger Connection 4

9 Choose n pproprite ntenn for the se sttion (see Section 2). Attch the ntenn cle or whip ntenn to the connector leled Antenn Connection (see Figure 3-3). FIGURE 3-3. Antenn Connection with the Whip Antenn Attched 4. Remote Sites Once connected, the Mster Rdio should show constnt red light on the CD LED (see Figure 3-1). The plstic enclosure contining the Slve Rdio will e crried round to ct s the remote site (see Figure 4-1). Before crrying the equipment to the remote sites, use the voltmeter to verify tht the ttery is fully chrged. If needed, rechrge the ttery vi the wll chrger (see Figure 3-2). LEDs on the slve rdio indicte the qulity of the connection (see Figure 4-1 nd Tle 4-1). Try ech ntenn until you get n excellent connection. The Ygi ntenn will need to e imed directly t the se sttion. 5

Returning the Equipment Pck the equipment in the oxes the equipment originlly cme in (see Figures 5-1 through 5-3). CAUTION It is the responsiility of the customer to ensure tht ll components of the kit re returned to Cmpell Scientific. Customers will e chrged for lost or dmged components. 6
