1 Exciting times at the first Dell EMC World event in Austin, Texas. The conference was the first event where the combined organisation presented themselves as one. Partners, customers and all were able to view combined offerings, roadmaps, and sales channel strategies as they are developing from the head honchos, including Michael Dell himself. The new systems also provide the ultimate in efficiency for tiering long-term retention data to the cloud. > The new Data Domain family features four new models: DD6300, DD6800, DD9300 and DD9800. The DD9800 is 7x more scalable, 1.5x faster and can support 5x more streams than the nearest competitor. > Store data natively in the cloud via new Data Domain Cloud Tier which increases overall capacity by 200%, with a maximum logical capacity of up to 150PB managed by a single system > DD OS 6.0: The new Data Domain family of appliances is powered by the next generation of the Data Domain operating system, DD OS 6.0. In addition to the introduction of Data Domain Cloud Tier, DD OS 6.0 delivers new advanced integration with Hadoop, via the Dell EMC Data Protection Suite for Applications, an industry-unique solution to deliver enterprise grade protection of big data. Product updates included: Data Domain Backup Appliance A big update for the fantastic DataDomain platform new hardware, new software functionality, native cloud integration and new packaging. Dell EMC unveiled new software and a new generation of Dell EMC Data Domain protection storage systems that are flashenabled to deliver industry-leading speed and scalability, as well as, enhanced protection for virtual environments. > Software packages have been updated for the four new models, making licensing simpler and more efficient: Base software includes: DD retention lock, DD Virtual Tape Library, Encryption and Expansion Capacity Optional features include: DD Boost, Replicator and Cloud Tier based on a per terabyte model > The new family of Data Domain appliances and Data Domain OS 6.0, which includes Data Domain Cloud Tier, are available today.

2 Unity Entry to Midrange Storage VMAX Enterprise Storage Enterprise storage updates - with 2016 seen as The Year of FLASH the VMAX platforms were broadened with the addition of the VMAX 250F model. The leading storage platform Unity had several updates announced during the event: > Management: CloudIQ is a cloud-based storage analytics platform that will be available later this quarter. CloudIQ will provide near real-time intelligence and predictive analytics capabilities to proactively monitor, manage, and provide health scores dashboards for Unity storage. > Compression: Unity customers will gain inline compression capabilities with the latest version of UnityOE software (with the ability to compress block-based LUNs hosting in All-Flash pools) the new compression capability will allow customers to save up to 70% in storage costs. Store more data with the same Unity hardware! > Flash: New support for 15.36TB 3D NAND (SAS Flash 4) flash drives Doubling the storage density available on the Unity platform In addition, the Unity 600 and 600F support double the number of drives, increasing total usable capacity up to 10PB. > Cloud Tiering: Expanding its capabilities for the modern data centre, Unity now supports seamless, automated policy-based file tiering to public clouds including Virtustream, Amazon S3, and Microsoft Azure. > Availability: Updates to the UnityOE, including support for 15.36TB flash drives, will be available toward the end of 2016 at no cost as a non-disruptive, data-in-place upgrade. > The VMAX 250F leverages Dell EMC s experience of developing enterprise-scale VMAX All Flash arrays to deliver a high performance system that meets the specifications of organisations with enterprise-class standards and midmarket budgets. 3 VPLEX Continuous Availability and Mobility Several updates and enhancement to Dell EMC s world beating solution for storage continuous availability and non-disruptive data mobility: VPLEX. > Performance: VPLEX takes a performance leap to meet the needs of All-Flash environments The new VPLEX VS6 delivers twice the performance with one-third the latency of previous generations with greater scalability too. The latest VPLEX VS6 is optimised for flash with UNMAP support for thin provisioning, XCOPY support and Integrated Copy Data Management (icdm) support across active-active datacentres. > New Solution: VPLEX for All-Flash. With VPLEX For All- Flash, the software license is tied to a VPLEX engine without any limitations on the capacity or the number of Dell EMC flash arrays protected, making it a very cost effective option for customers to extend VPLEX capabilities to their growing all-flash workloads. The VS6 platform and VPLEX For All-Flash solution have been designed to enable customers to modernise their datacentres with continuous availability and non-disruptive data mobility. VPLEX adds seven-nines availability to mission-critical workloads for performance intensive all-flash systems. VxRAIL Hyper-Converged Infrastructure Appliance (HCIA) With the merger of EMC and Dell we expected some product lines to be impacted more than others some negatively and some, in this case, very positively! In essence, Dell have used their server based technologies and knowledge to enhance and widen the already popular VxRAIL HCIA. VxRAIL appliance, the exclusive HCIA from Dell EMC and VMware, is the easiest and fastest way for organisations to implement and extend a VMware virtualised environment. Leveraging VMware virtual SAN (VSAN) and managed via vcenter, the appliance provides existing VMware customers a familiar experience, with seamless integration with existing tools and maximises existing skills and processes. Dell EMC announced at the event that PowerEdge servers would be integrated in to the VxRAIL appliance. According to the Dell EMC announcement: VxRail Appliances with PowerEdge servers increases hardware flexibility and offer more granular scalability with 250x more configurations, 40% more CPU performance for the same price, 25% lower entry price starting at under $45,000 (USD) and offer 2x more storage in all-flash nodes Dell EMC owning both the compute and storage portions of the hyper-converged stack is a game-changer for the HCI portfolio, said Terri McClure, Senior Analyst, Enterprise Strategy Group. What s been announced? > These feature 40% more CPU performance for the same price. > Increased flexibility and scalability with more configurations than before. > All-flash nodes equipped with 2x more storage. > A new 3-node entry point that is 25% less expensive. > New VxRAIL models: G Series General purpose, all-flash or hybrid, up to 19TB per node. E Series Entry level, all-flash or hybrid, up to 30TB per node. V Series VDI optimized, all-flash or hybrid, up to 46TB per node. P Series Performance optimised, all-flash or hybrid, up to 46TB per node. S Series Storage optimised, all-flash or hybrid, up to 46TB per node.

4 These new platforms extend the workloads that can be addressed by VxRAIL: > Storage centric - Big Data, analytics, database and Microsoft Exchange can take advantage of new VxRAIL appliances based on the high density storage nodes coupled with the latest updated Intel processors that deliver high-performance processing. > Graphical centric Virtual desktop infrastructure, including Microsoft Windows 10, productivity applications and graphics-intensive CAD/CAM, research and development applications get a boost with the option to leverage GPU acceleration from NVIDIA and AMD > ROBO New low-end 3-node entry option across the range allows customers to cost-effectively deploy hyperconverged infrastructure to simplify IT management at multiple remote sites. 5 VxRack System 1000 rack scale Hyper-Converged Platform Dell EMC s VxRack System 1000, is touted as the only rackscale hyper-converged system with integrated top-of-rack Spine-Leaf networking and SDN options on the market today. It s the perfect choice for core data centres that require both enterprise-grade resiliency and the ability to start small and scale easily. The Dell EMC World event saw the announcement of the platform now based on PowerEdge R630 and R730xd servers, which gives these VxRack Systems more capacity and 40% more CPU performance without increasing footprint or cost. With more than 20 new configurations, customers have the flexibility to add as needed compute-heavy, storage-heavy or balanced configurations (in both all-flash and hybrid models) as needed to match their workload requirements. The updated VxRack offerings, with PowerEdge-based nodes, will be generally available in major markets during Q Elastic Cloud Storage (ECS) Software Defined Object Storage A major update to the popular cloud object storage platform ECS was announced at Dell EMC world the third generation of the platform receives several important enhancements including: > Dell Servers - ECS is now certified to run on several popular PowerEdge Servers. > High Density New ECS D-Series hardware, a highdensity appliance aimed at helping organisations with tape replacement efforts, storing up to 6.2PB in a single rack a 63% improvement over other ECS packages > Cloud The ECS Dedicated Cloud Service is a managed offering that allows customers to provision dedicated ECS units running in Virtustream datacentres around the world. Available later in 2016, the ECS Dedicated Cloud Service combines the rich capabilities of ECS with private cloud control, while offering the hands-off operations and flexibility of the public cloud. > Cloud Tiering ECS is now certified to be a cloud storage tier for the newly announced Dell EMC Data Domain Cloud capability. > Windows The third generation of ECS provides support for Windows platforms requiring CIFS/SMB access > Enhanced Enterprise Capabilities - ECS 3.0 offers advanced compliance capabilities, improved monitoring and alerting infrastructure and increased storage utilisation. ECS version 3 and the high density hardware appliance are now generally available. In addition, customers can download and try the latest version of ECS through the ECS Free and Frictionless download page. The ECS Dedicated Cloud Service will be available to select customers later in 2016, with general availability expected in early Enhancing Cloud Data Protection and Manageability Data protection has traditionally been an on-premise task, but with today s IT transformation more and more organisations are utilising the cloud as a repository for both active data and backup data Dell EMC s data protection portfolio is designed to help IT centralise data protection management and control of the entire information environment and is now extensible to more cloud platforms than before, whilst providing the same enterprise-grade protection experience. Dell EMC announced two new protection solutions for incloud applications and data as well as the addition of multiple cloud-enabled enhancements to simplify and lower the cost of protection for both backup and application administrators, including:

6 > MS Azure - Protection of applications running on Microsoft Azure: following the announcement of a protection solution for Amazon AWS at EMC World in May, NetWorker with CloudBoost now protects applications running on the Microsoft Azure platform, employing the same source-side data de-duplication, compression and encryption for highly efficient and secure backups in the cloud > Networker and Avamar - Native cloud tiering in NetWorker 9.1 and Avamar 7.4: Native administration of Data Domain Cloud Tier via the NetWorker or Avamar management consoles allows you to create, control and manage longterm data retention and data movement policies using Data Domain Cloud Tier from the same user interface being used for on-premises data retention workflows > DD Boost - Native cloud tiering for applications: with Data Domain Boost for Enterprise Applications, IT application administrators are now empowered to perform their own backup to the cloud for long-term retention, all while using their own application s native interface or CLI commands. Supported applications include Oracle, SQL, SAP, SAP HANA, IBM DB2 > DataDomain - Natively tier de-duplicated data directly to cloud platforms: Data Domain Cloud Tier requires no cloud gateway or virtual appliance to tier de-duplicated data directly to the public, private or hybrid cloud. To further lower TCO, the solution ensures that only unique data is uploaded to already de-duplicated data within cloud object storage > Secure data tiering to a variety of cloud platforms: Data Domain Cloud Tier supports data tiering to clouds including, Virtustream Storage Cloud, Dell EMC ECS for onpremise object storage, as well as, third party public clouds and employs DD Encryption and DD Retention Lock to ensure data in the cloud remains secure > Spanning Backup Global Expansion: Microsoft Office 365 and Salesforce.com have become staple cloud-based business applications for office workers around the globe. Spanning Backup for Office 365 now simplifies compliance with European Union data sovereignty regulations, offering EU customers a backup and recovery solution for their cloud-based Office 365 and Salesforce data. All European customer data storage and processing is handled within a new regional data centre located in the EU. Availability - Data Domain Virtual Edition 3.0 is available now. NetWorker 9.1 support for Microsoft Azure is available now. NetWorker 9.1 with CloudBoost will be available in December Native management of Data Domain Cloud Tier support with NetWorker 9.1, Avamar 7.4 and Data Domain Boost for Enterprise Applications 3.5 will be available in December. Spanning Backup for Office 365 service is available now. Isilon Goes All FLASH! Scale Out NAS Trailed at the previous EMC World event as Isilon Nitro, Isilon has gone All flash!! Isilon may not be considered as a suitable candidate for the flash conversion, traditionally it would have been the primary, structured block storage however when you consider where unstructured datasets are going (e.g. real-time analytics, 4K video, genomics etc) and where flash technology journey currently is flash can certainly deliver some massive advantages. > Density The new All-Flash version of Isilon scale-out NAS delivers massive storage density for the next-gen unstructured data workloads, customers can start with a single 96TB 4U chassis capacity

7 > Scalability Additional capacity expansion is by combining up to 100 Isilon All-Flash chassis and over 400 nodes into a single cluster to provide up to 92.4PB of storage capacity Petabytes! > And of course Performance! 250K IOPS from a 4U starter cluster scaling to 25M IOPS in a fully spec d 400 node all-flash cluster. Throughput wise... that s 15GB through to 1.5TB/s of total aggregated bandwidth, all within a single filesystem and single volume. 25 million IOPS, 1.5 Terabytes per second! Isilon All-Flash storage is designed for a wide range of nextgeneration applications and unstructured workloads that require extreme NAS performance including, 4K streaming of data, genomic sequencing, electronic design automation and near real-time analytics with a choice of Big Data analytics vendors, such as, Hortonworks, Cloudera, Pivotal, IBM and Splunk. Availability - Isilon All-Flash scale-out NAS storage is available for customers to pre-order today, and will be generally available in 2017, along with new versions of OneFS that will be a free upgrade to all existing customers. Dell EMC Extends Common User Experience to SC Series (Compellent) Dell EMC announced it has boosted the capabilities of its mid-market proven SC Series storage arrays by making them interoperable with the world s leading portfolio of storage management, mobility and data protection solutions formerly only available to EMC customers. > Dell EMC ViPR Suite: comprised of ViPR Controller and ViPR Storage Resource Management (SRM) provides automated insight and action designed for heterogeneous storage arrays > Dell EMC Intelligent Data Mobility (IDM) technology: enables smooth and seamless migration to newer systems at a fixed proportional rate > Dell EMC PowerPath software: high-performance multipath software automates data path management, failover and recovery, and optimises load balancing to ensure application availability and performance, unlike most native operating system multiple path I/O (MPIO) functions > Dell EMC VPLEX systems: deliver continuous availability and data mobility to ensure uptime for mission-critical applications and now offers twice the performance, a costeffective All-Flash solution and full support for the SC Series > Dell EMC CloudArray technology: cloud-integrated storage extends on-premise storage arrays to cost-effective cloud capacity.
