Jacob Fey or ANNUAL COOKIES WITH SANTA By Cat Lodge, Enclave On the evening of Thursday, December 7th, the HOA held their annual Cookies with Santa event in the pavilion. This is a tradition that continues to be one of the most successful Vineyard HOA events each year, and this year was no different! Over a hundred Vineyard families stopped by to visit with Santa and his helper elf. Children were treated to cookies, hot chocolate and crafts, while adults were served wine and small bites. When the event began at 6pm, there was a definite chill in the air and rain falling. By 6:30pm, it was a Christmas miracle as snowflakes started falling. For many children attending, it was their first time seeing snow. It was a truly magical night! Thank you to the Vineyard HOA for supporting the event, to the neighbors that assisted in making it run smoothly, and to all who braved the cold to attend. A special thank you to Vineyard resident and photographer, Robert Tre bor, who offered his time and expertise to take fantastic photographs of our families visiting with Santa. Please do not use this area store personal items, or dispose of trash brush. Motorized vehicles are prohibited in the greenbelt, and pets must be kept on a leash at all times, and are not allowed to run free in this area. Thank you for being a considerate homeowner. So don t water. Just let it sleep. Your pocketbook will thank you. During the holidays we re all busy with a million things and let s face it, most of those things cost money. But I ve got some good news for you watering your landscape is one less thing you need to worry about. So turn off your irrigation controller, let your landscape sleep and save that water for your extra houseguests this season. Here in South Texas if you have turf grass, you likely have Bermuda, zoysia or St. Augustine. Trust me when I say your lawn will survive on the water from the sky until late spring. Don t set it and forget it. As a licensed irrigator, I understand the importance of following best practices to ensure I m not wasting water. And as a homeowner, I know irrigation systems should only be used as a supplement in the absence of rain. It should never be left in auto or run mode year round. This results in a lot of unnecessary watering and very high water bills. So do your yard and your pocketbook a favor, turn off the irrigation controller. 5 January 2018 Relief From Those Annoying Robocalls FTC rolls out new system to track and block calls by Brandon Gobel, AARP, August 3, 2017 Have you been getting more and more robocalls on your phone? If so, you re not alone, but relief could be on the way. The Federal Trade Commission (FTC), cellphone providers and industry experts have unveiled a new system to track and more quickly block these annoying and often illegal calls on your landline and cellphones. Complaints about the calls have been pouring into the FTC so much so that they are the No. 1 complaint the agency receives. The FTC plans to process your complaint within one business Vineyard View day and immediately turn over information you gathered from the caller to phone carriers and other industry partners. As part of the partnership, the groups will work to quickly block the unwanted number from calling you and others. Sharing the critical information from consumers unwanted call complaints to enable industry innovators to stop illegal robocalls is exactly the type of public-private partnership the FTC champions, said Acting Chairman Maureen K. Ohlhausen. Here s how you can help: Make sure you subscribe to the Do Not Call list. If not, you have to wait 31 days to file a complaint. If you receive unwanted calls or robocalls in violation of the FTC policy, take notes. You ll want to gather this information from the call: incoming phone number, date and time of call, what the call was about, and whether it was a recording or live person. File a complaint on the FTC website. The agency has made its complaint form simple, with numerous drop-down menus to help you through the process. The FTC says your complaint is crucial because many of today s call-blocking solutions rely on blacklists databases of telephone numbers that have received significant consumer complaints. Robocalls can be more than irritating. They also can be a scam and cost you plenty.
