1 Transferring a BERNINA V8 sftware license Intrductin Yu can use the RUS utility (Remte Update System) t transfer a Bernina V8 sftware license frm ne cmputer (the surce cmputer) t anther (the recipient cmputer). This is a three-step prcedure that uses the RUS utility n bth cmputers. The surce cmputer is the ne currently running the registered and activated BERNINA V8 sftware. The recipient cmputer is the ne t which the license will be transferred. IMPORTANT NOTE: The license can nly be transferred frm a wrking surce cmputer with a currently running versin f Bernina V8 sftware. If the surce cmputer is nt wrking, please cntact Bernina Supprt. Prcedure Overview Install the Bernina V8 sftware n the recipient cmputer but DO NOT run the sftware until the license transfer is cmplete Dwnlad the RUS Utility fr Bernina V8 and transfer it t a USB stick fr use n bth the surce and recipient cmputers. Step 1: Cllect Infrmatin Abut the Recipient Cmputer On the recipient cmputer, launch the RUS utility Click the Transfer License tab. Fllw the instructins labelled "Step 1" t cllect infrmatin abut the cmputer and save it t a file. Make sure that the file (r a cpy f the file) is accessible n the surce cmputer. Step 2: Generate the License Transfer File On the surce cmputer, launch the RUS utility Click the Transfer License tab. Fllw the instructins labelled "Step 2" t select the SL key t transfer, read the recipient infrmatin file, and generate a license transfer (h2h) file. Make sure that the license transfer file (r a cpy f the file) is accessible n the recipient cmputer. After yu perfrm this step, the BERNINA V8 sftware license is n lnger available n the surce cmputer. Be sure t keep a cpy f the transfer file until yu have cmpleted the transfer prcedure. Step 3: Apply the License Transfer File On the recipient cmputer, in the RUS utility, click the Apply License File tab In the Update File field, click the brwse buttn and lcate the license transfer (h2h) file. Click Apply Update. The SL key is installed n the recipient cmputer.

2 T ensure the success f the transfer prcedure, all the steps in the prcedure shuld be cmpleted within n mre than a few days f the time yu first start the prcess. Prcedure Step-by-Step NOTES: 1. The Recipient Cmputer is the cmputer t which the license is being transferred 2. The Surce Cmputer is the cmputer n which the BERNINA V8 sftware is currently registered and activated Prerequisite: Yu must install the Bernina V8 sftware n the recipient cmputer but DO NOT run the sftware until after the license transfer is cmplete in step 3. Dwnlad the RUS_Bernina_V8 Utility Dwnlad the RUS Utility and transfer it t a USB stick fr use n bth the surce and recipient cmputers. The dwnlad link is: The file will usually be dwnladed t: This PC > Dwnlads Step 1: Cllect Infrmatin Abut the Recipient Cmputer On the recipient cmputer, launch the RUS utility by duble clicking RUS_Bernina_V8.exe In Windws File Explrer, brwse t the USB stick n which the RUS utility was saved Duble click RUS_Bernina_V8.exe The RUS Utility will pen

4 Fllw the instructins labelled "Step 1" t cllect infrmatin abut the cmputer and save it t a file (.id) Click n the brwse buttn and select the USB stick n which the RUS Utility was saved Enter a file name fr the file that is recgnizable as the Recipient Cmputer infrmatin Fr example MyNewPCInf

5 Click the Save buttn Click the Cllect and Save Infrmatin buttn in the RUS Utility Make sure that the file has been saved In Windws File Explrer, select the USB stick and check the file exists Clse the RUS Utility by clicking the X in the tp right hand crner

6 Step 2: Generate the License Transfer File Plug the USB stick int the Surce Cmputer Using Windws File Explrer, brwse t the USB stick and select it Yu will see the RUS_Bernina_V8.exe and the Recipient Cmputer infrmatin file Duble click n the RUS_Bernina_V8.exe file The RUS Utility will pen

8 Brwse t the USB stick and select the Recipient Cmputer infrmatin file (.id) Fr example MyNewPCInf.id Click the Open buttn Generate a license transfer (.h2h) file Click the brwse buttn Type in a name fr the license file t transfer Fr example BerninaV8License

9 Click the Save buttn Click the Generate License Transfer File buttn Using Windws File Explrer, make sure that the license transfer file has been written t the USB stick

10 Clse the RUS Utility by clicking the X in the tp right hand crner After yu perfrm this step, the BERNINA V8 sftware license is n lnger available n the surce cmputer. Be sure t keep a cpy f the transfer file until yu have cmpleted the transfer prcedure. 13 Testing the transferred license Yu test the license transfer by running the Bernina V8 sftware n the recipient cmputer. When yu duble click the desktp icn, the sftware will simply start as it did n the surce cmputer prir t the transfer f the license.
