2 Overview IBM Information r is a revolutionary new software platform that helps organizations derive more value from the complex, heterogeneous information spread across their systems. It provides breakthrough collaboration, productivity, and performance for cleansing, transforming, and moving this information consistently and securely throughout the enterprise. It can then be accessed and used in new ways to drive innovation, increase operational efficiency, and lower risk. To ensure closer alignment with advancing processor technologies and to make Information r packaging more intuitive and flexible, IBM is implementing the following changes to IBM Information r and IBM Information r for Linux on System z licensing policies for all new licenses: Processor Value licensing replaces existing "Base Plus" processor licensing terms. Multiple IBM Information r products, previously licensed in packs of multiple users, are now available as single-user licenses. IBM Information r product module licenses no longer carry bundled entitlements to any other Information r products. IBM Information r Business Glossary Anywhere is now licensed under PVU terms. In addition, IBM WebSphere Metadata r, which was previously an integrated part of Information r, is no longer a licensable component. IBM is also announcing new part s for IBM Information r for Linux on System z and other information integration products running on Linux for System z. The PVU licensing structure enables a sustainable framework for licensing software on new processor technologies. Under the PVU licensing structure, you will license software based on the of Processor Value Units assigned to each processor core in the computing environment on which the software is installed. Each Information r module that is licensed in PVU terms will carry a unique price per Processor Value Unit. To determine the total cost of every Information r product module, you multiply the product module's price per Processor Value Unit by the total of PVU entitlements required. No product-specific restriction on initial license Licensing Information r modules in PVU terms will allow you to license Information r product modules at the level of an individual processor core. Therefore, there will no longer be any restrictions applicable to Information r product modules on minimum processor cores licensed. Instead, you will have the flexibility to license Information r product modules for deployment on any quantity and any configuration of processor cores with licensing determined by processor family (vendor and brand) type and of processor cores. No separate license required for IBM WebSphere Metadata r Information r customers are no longer required to separately license IBM WebSphere Metadata r. IBM WebSphere Metadata r will no longer be orderable as a separate Information r product module. IBM WebSphere Metadata r functionality will be integral to all applicable Information r products. No bundled entitlements within base product license To simplify Information r packaging, no additional entitlements will be bundled within the product license of individual Information r product modules. You can now obtain a specific of entitlements required for your implementation using the individual product licenses. Single-user client licenses Several Information r products that were previously licensed in packs of multiple users are now available as single-user licenses. These include IBM WebSphere DataStage and QualityStage Designer Client, IBM WebSphere Information Analyzer Workbench, the authoring license of IBM WebSphere Business Glossary, and Metadata Workbench. You can now obtain the specific of entitlements required for your implementation. IBM WebSphere Business Glossary and Information Services Director licensing IBM WebSphere Business Glossary and IBM WebSphere Information Services Director will no longer require reference-based licensing with IBM WebSphere Metadata r. In the future, consistent with other IBM software products, these will need to be licensed on PVUs. Licensing metric for IBM Information Business Glossary Anywhere The licensing metric associated with IBM Information r Business Glossary Anywhere has been changed from a per server metric to PVU metric. Changes to Base Plus software entitlements The IBM software products listed at the end of this section are now offered under Processor Value Unit licensing. These products, previously licensed for deployment on a minimum set of processors, are now offered under a PVU licensing metric in which applicable license fees scale based on the processor family (vendor and brand) and of processor cores. 4 Existing license entitlements will not be affected. Your current license terms will remain in effect as acquired through Passport Advantage. Software Subscription and Support entitlements For customers with Subscription and Support renewal anniversary dates on or before November 30, 2008, your current Subscription and Support terms will remain in effect until expiration of the coverage period. For customers with Subscription and Support renewal anniversary dates on or after December 1, 2008, new Subscription and Support renewals for the products listed at the end of this section will be quoted based on Processor Value Units. If your Subscription and Support expires on or after December 1, 2008, IBM will make a good faith effort to contact you to determine your Subscription and Support entitlements under the PVU metric. IBM will contact current Information r customers via correspondence, telephone, or through other means to request an inventory of processor cores on which Information r product modules are installed. Customers will be asked to provide the inventory within 30 days following the initial request. If IBM is unable to determine the appropriate Subscription and Support entitlement quantities prior to Subscription and Support renewal, IBM will issue a quotation that may not properly reflect the actual required Subscription and Support entitlement quantities. This could result in either excess entitlements quoted or in a compliance gap that will require rectification. Customers continue to be responsible for ensuring that they have the appropriate of Subscription and Support entitlements. Clients must acquire the total of PVUs for each processor core on which the software programs are deployed. IBM continues to define a processor as each processor core on a chip. For example, a dual-core chip contains two processor cores. Each IBM Information r product module that is licensed in PVU terms carries a unique price per PVU. To determine the total cost of deploying a software component, multiply the program price per PVU by the total of PVUs required.
