2 Our ebook collection is growing all the time. If there is a particular title you would like to read please let us know and we will check if it is available through our ebook suppliers, dawsonera and EBL. Most of the books are also available for loan from the library. All ebooks are accessible on the BDA website in the ebooks section and through the library's online catalogue. Ebooks can be read online on PCs, tablets and some smartphones. They can also be downloaded on to PCs for up to 7 days. Those accessed through EBL can also be downloaded on to tablets and some smartphones. You will need a PIN to access ebooks. To set up a PIN contact the Library on library@bda.org or To access the catalogue go to More detailed instructions can be found on the dawsonera and EBL websites. Click on the help link in the top right-hand corner of the web page after logging in. Getting started To bring up a list of titles available online type ebooks into the library catalogue and click search.

3 This will bring up of a list of currently available titles. Find the title you want and click on the link next to Electronic location and access starting This book can be read online. You will be taken to the login screen. This will be for dawsonera or EBL. The following sections explain how to access titles from each supplier. Accessing a book on dawsonera Landing on this screen means the title is available through dawsonera. If a different login screen appears please go to the EBL instructions later in the guide. Enter your membership number followed by your six digit library PIN in the boxes next to Direct Login and click Login. If your membership number is less than 5 digits long we will give you an alternative login.

4 The first time you log in you will be taken to a page where you need to accept the terms and conditions before proceeding. The next page will bring up a description of the book you wish to view and an option to download or read online. The next 2 sections detail how to do both of these options. Reading a book online Click on Read Online and the screen to the right will appear. Choose which section of the book you would like to read from the contents list on the left-hand side of the screen. The links on the left also allow you to make personal page notes. These will save automatically after you log out. You can also search for terms within the book, highlight and copy sections and print pages from the book. Due to copyright restrictions, only 5% of the book can be printed or copied per user. Please note: Printing and copying is only available when reading a book online. This feature does not work for downloaded titles.

5 Downloading a book (dawsonera) If you wish to download the book to your computer click on the drop down box containing the words No. of days and you will be given the option to download the title for 1 to 7 days. Click on Download and the following screen will appear. Then click open to bring the book up on the screen in Adobe Acrobat. You may then be asked if you are prepared to Allow the download and then agree to the author tracking your interactions if they wish to. The book will then appear on your screen. You will be requested to save the book when you close the screen. Save to the local drive on your computer or to a flash drive. The book will automatically delete after the number of days you downloaded it for has passed.

6 Downloading a book (dawsonera) Landing on the top screen means the title is available through EBL. If a different login screen appears please go to the dawsonera instructions earlier in this guide. Enter your membership number followed by your six digit library PIN in the User Name and Password boxes and click 'Login'. Note: Adobe Digital Editions must be installed before you can download a title. If this is not installed on your computer a link is provided when you choose to download a book. The book will be stored in the Adobe Digital Editions folder on your PC for the period that you have downloaded it for. Reading a book online (EBL) Click on Read Online and the screen to the right will appear. Choose which section of the book you would like to read from the contents list on the left-hand side of the screen. The links on the left also allow you to make personal page notes. These will save automatically after you log out. You can also search for terms within the book. Buttons to highlight and copy sections and print pages from the book are at the top of the screen. Due to copyright restrictions, only 5% of the book can be printed or copied per user.

7 Downloading a book (dawsonera) If you wish to download the book to your computer, tablet or smartphone click on Download and you will be given the option to download the title for 1 to 7 days. You can also download the title from the left-hand menu when viewing the book online - this automatically downloads the book for 24 hours only. Choose loan length from the drop down box. Click on Download and the following message appears. Click Open will open the book immediately and automatically save it in Adobe Digital Editions. The book will open as shown. Clicking hides the left-hand navigation panel to provide a full screen view of the book

8 The book will be stored in the Adobe Digital Editions folder on your computer for the number of days you choose to download it for. Click on Read or double click the book in the main panel to reopen. The red strip across the book shows how long you have left to read the book before it is automatically removed from your computer. Downloading non BDA library titles (dawsonera) You can also download books not available through your library membership, directly from dawsonera. Click on ebook catalogue from the menu tabs at the top of the screen or enter a search term to find if a particular book is available. If a book is available to rent you will see the red Pay to rent ebook button.. Click on this to send a loan request to dawsonera. There is a charge for this service which is dependent on the book rented and the time you wish to download it for. You cannot pay to rent non BDA titles on EBL. Books are available to buy to download permanently

9 Downloading non BDA Library titles For comprehensive instructions on accessing ebooks and troubleshooting the dawsonera website has a Help link in the top right-hand corner underneath the BDA logo. The EBL website has a Help link in the top right-hand corner of the screen.
