2 REASON This version software Service Bulletin provides an upgrade that includes the following changes: Fixed-Content Data Logging AddstheabilitytologflightdatatoanSDcardintheMFD Along-Track Offset The distance entered defaults to a negative value Oxygen Outlet PSI Gauges The gauges are now compatible with both the existing and the newer systems Direct-To Transition Path Adds a curved transition path for direct-to course changes SVT Pathways This feature will now be enabled whenever SVT is installed on the system Flight Plan Import/Export Flight plans can now be transferred between an SD card and the GDU flight plan memory Weather Map Orientation The map orientation is now selectable, instead of always being "north up" XM Weather Data Products Support is added for AIREP, PIREP, Turbulence, Icing Potential, and Super-cooled Droplets Vertical Deviation Indicator For an ILS approach, the VDI will only be displayed on the front course when a valid LOC signal is being received and an appropriate heading is being shown Dead-Reckoning Mode GPS course and roll steering data are now valid for up to 20 minutes after entering DR mode Default Waypoint Storage Duration The pilot can now create waypoints that are temporary or persistent System Configuration Bar Endurance (END), fuel onboard (FOB), and fuel-over-destination (FOD) options can now be displayed on the MFD status bar MFD Page Navigation A pop-up window now indicates the Page Group and Page Title during window navigation Temporary Flight Restrictions The depiction of TFR circles on moving maps is improved by combining overlapping TFR circles into a single-shape TFR Checklist Page the UNDO and DONE soft keys are now called UNCHECK and CHECK Inset Maps Inset map depictions are now synchronized between the PFD and the MFD Holding Pattern Depiction A displayed holding pattern will be colored magenta only when it is anticipated to be flown Flight Plan Sequencing Manual activation of a procedure turn will no longer result in a suspend state after completing the turn Flight Path Marker If SVT is installed, the marker will now render behind the aircraft symbol and flight director command bars Deleting an Empty Flight Plan The system will no longer prompt for confirmation when deleting an empty flight plan Minimum Altitude Alerts A previously entered value is cleared when an approach is added or deleted from the active flight plan LPV Approach Selection This can now be accomplished for airports with 3-letter identifiers Multiple Waypoint Instances The Flight Plan List is modified such that any instance of a waypoint that appears multiple times can be selected, not just the first AOPA Airport Directory Information Support is added for display on the "WPT-Airport Information Page" - the AOPA directory will need to be purchased wia " Page 2 June 21, 2011
3 Auto-Zoom Range The moving map will now focus on that portion of the active leg that is ahead of the aircraft instead of the entire active leg Approach Loading Cursor When loading an approach, the cursor will no longer skip the "minimums" field after selecting a transition that prompts for whether to fly the course reversal Groundspeed in DR Mode When DR mode is active, groundspeed is now displayed in yellow on the PFD Flight Plan Deletion The ability to delete all stored flight plans or all user waypoints simultaneously is disabled while the aircraft is airborne. DESCRIPTION This Service Bulletin provides parts and instructions to upgrade the Garmin G1000 software to version COMPLIANCE Recommended: Should be accomplished within the next 100 hours of operation or 12 months, whichever occurs first. NOTE: Existing Garmin software backup CDs shall be destroyed and discarded to eliminate the possibility of loading the incorrect software at a later date. If the aircraft is not a WAAS-equipped aircraft do not perform this software update NOTE 2: If the system software or configuration fails to upload correctly during accomplishment of this Service Bulletin, do the upload again. Do not try to upload more than five times. Ifthe system does not upload after the fifth attempt, contact Cessna Aircraft Customer Service, Telephone or Fax Do not cancel a software or configuration upload that is in progress. Let the system either successfully load or fail. NOTE 3: If the alert chime comes on at any time during the accomplishment of this Service Bulletin, you can go to the Alert Configuration page in the GDU page group, push the soft key directly below the ACK, and this should make the chime stop. Instructions 1. Do the software and paper documentation: A. Remove, destroy, and discard the old Cessna Model 350 or 400 Installation Software CD from the sleeve in the Pilot's Operating Handbook (POH) to eliminate the possibility of reloading the incorrect software at a later date, and get the new Cessna Model 350/400 Installation Software CD to load the new software. B. Remove the old Garmin G1000 Cockpit Reference Guide for Cessna 350/400 and replace it with the Garmin G1000 Cockpit Reference Guide for Cessna 350/400, Part Number C. The Garmin G1000 Cockpit Reference Guide for Cessna 350/400, Part Number and the Garmin 350/400 Installation Software CD may be ordered through Cessna Service Parts and Programs. You must use the new CD when you do the software upgrade on the airplane. When not in use, the CD should be stored in the Pilot's Operating Handbook sleeve. 2. Make the 006-B Software SD Loader Card as follows: A. Use the applicable Cessna 350 or 400 Installation software CD and update the SD Card for the correct model airplane. 7 B. Right mouse click on the START button in the lower left corner of the computer screen and click on EXPLORE. C. Find the CD drive with the CD in it on your computer and double click it to open the CD file. D. Double click on the file labeled 006-B _OA.exe. E. When the window opens, click the SETUP button. F. Install a blank SD Card into the SD card reader and click the NEXT button. NOTE: SanDisk is the SD card brand that is recommended by Garmin for use in their G1000 system. G. The next window will ask for your SD card reader location. Select the location of the SD card reader and then click the NEXT button. H. Click the NEXT button when the window opens. NOTE: If there is information on the SD card, it will be erased by the Software Application Builder. I. The software will begin to transfer from the CD to the SD Card. J. Whenthedatahas transferred to the SD card, click the FINISH button. K. Remove the SD card from the SD card reader and identify the SD card as 006-B L. Remove the CD from the computer and install it in the Garmin Software sleeve in the Pilot s Operating Handbook (POH). 3. Turn on the G1000 in configuration mode to verify existing options. A. (Refer to TABLE 2.) Record which options are installed for later reference. If you do not know which options are installed on your airplane, use TABLE 3 to make a list of the installed options before you go to Step 6. This list is necessary to do the correct software upload and configuration. Record in TABLE 3 all installations and configuration options necessary for the airplane. NOTE: To stop the alert chime in configuration mode, on the Alert Configuration page in the GDU page group, push the soft key that is below ACK. June 21, 2011 Page 7
8 TABLE 2 Model 350/ /400 AIRPLANE MODEL CONFIGURATION FILE SELECTIONS Cessna (Model) WAAS Baseline NOTE: Model is either 350 or 400. It is critical to select the correct model baseline. Cessna (Model) Non-Adjusted 49 Gal Fuel Tank Option or Cessna (Model) Adjusted 49 Gal Fuel Tank Option NOTE: Model is either 350 or 400. The 51-gallon option is configured by default with the baseline. This load is only installed for the 49-gallon option, if necessary. NOTE: If the airplane serial number is in the serial range that follows, then it is equipped with 51-gallon tanks: Model 350 (LC42): 42568, 42569, and later Model 400 (LC41): 41800, and later. NOTE: If Service Letter SL has been accomplished on the airplane, OR if the airplane serial number is in the serial range that follows, then it is equipped with 49-gallon adjusted option: Model 350 (LC42): thru Model 400 (LC41): thru TCAD990BX/TAS620 NOTE: The TCAD /TAS system can be identified by the presence of a single, small, 3-inch shark fin antenna just above and aft of the cabin doors and a dual 3-inch shark fin antenna mounted on the belly inspection panel. Oxygen Outlet Low Press ( PSI) or Oxygen Outlet High Press (60-80 PSI) NOTE: This applies to model 400 airplanes only, and the system that is installed on the airplane. KN63 DME NOTE: If the airplane is equipped with a DME system, there is a 2-inch (shark fin) transponder / DME antenna on the belly of the airplane aft and left of the fuel system access panel at approximately FS Becker 3502 ADF NOTE: If the airplane is equipped with an ADF system, there is a large antenna on the belly of the airplane in the tail area, below the baggage compartment at approximately FS It is installed with three screws. GDL 69A Removal NOTE: This applies only to airplanes that do not use the GDL 69A. Disable SVT Pathways Option NOTE: Most installations will not use this option. SVT must be installed first. 9 TABLE 3- Configuration Selections Cessna (Model) WAAS Baseline NOTE: Use this table to list the necessary configuration uploads for the specified airplane installation. CAUTION: FAILURE TO FOLLOW THE INSTRUCTIONS IN EXACT STEP-BY-STEP ORDER COULD RESULT IN DAMAGE TO THE GDU SUPPLEMENTAL DATABASE AND/OR SD CARDS. 4. Do the preparation of the airplane for the software update as follows: A. Remove the GDU Supplemental Data SD Cards from the bottom slot of the PFD and the MFD units. B. Mark the SD Cards PFD or MFD. C. Remove the electronic checklist SD card from the top slot of the MFD as applicable. D. If the SD cards are Garmin P/N , go to Step 5. If the SD cards are not Garmin P/N , go to Step Remove the AOPA database from the database cards. If you do not remove the AOPA database file, a system error will occur because the previous system software will make the AOPA database invalid. A new AOPA database file must be installed if you want an AOPA database. A. Put the first database card into a PC card reader. B. Use Windows Explorer to navigate through the contents of the database card. C. Go to Tools, then Folder Options, and then View tab. (1) Select Show hidden files and folders. (2) Uncheck Hide protected operating system files (Recommended)". D. Look for the file apt_dir.gca. If it shows, select and delete it. E. Remove the database card from the PC. F. Do Step 5A thru 5E again for the second card. G. Store the cards in a safe location for later installation. 6. Load the GDU (PFD and MFD) software as follows: A. Make sure that all switches are in the OFF/NORM position. B. Connect the airplane to an external power unit. C. Make sure that no SD cards are installed in the PFD and MFD slots. D. Make sure that the PFD and the MFD circuit breakers are disengaged. E. Insert the 006-B SD card into the top card slot of the MFD. F. Put the left and the right BATTERY MASTER switches (on the overhead console) to the ON position. G. Put the CROSSTIE switch and the AVIONICS MASTER switch to the ON position. June 21, 2011 Page 9
10 H. Push and hold the ENT key on the MFD and engage the MFD circuit breaker. I. Release the softkey after the INITIALIZING SYSTEM message appears on the MFD. J. Push the YES soft key to upload GDU system files when the messages that follows shows: DO YOU WANT TO UPDATE SYSTEM FILES? K. If the message that follows shows, push the YES soft key: DO YOU WANT TO UPLOAD THE SPLASH SCREEN? L. Push the ENT key when the splash screen update is complete and you are asked to PRESS ANY SOFTKEY TO CONTINUE. M. Software load to the MFD is complete when the display starts into configuration mode. N. Leave the MFD display powered on. O. Remove the 006-B Garmin SD Card from the MFD and insert it into the top PFD slot. P. Engage the PFD circuit breakers and do Steps 6H thru 6M again for the PFD. 7. Initial software load and configuration upload. A. Turn the small FMS knob on the PFD to go to the system group SYSTEM UPLOAD page. B. Use the FMS knob to select the correct airframe from the pull-down menu. C. Push the FMS knob to start the cursor. D. Turn the small FMS knob to highlight the applicable airplane model. E. Push the ENT key. F. Select the Cessna (Model Number) WAAS Baseline menu option and push the ENT key. NOTE: The software included in the 006-B SD Card will automatically determine which files must be loaded. G. Press the LOAD softkey to load selected software/config items. Periodically monitor the loading process for failures. A green PASS message is shown beside software and configuration items. NOTE: Periodically monitor the software load for progress. If the upload to a unit is unsuccessful, an UPLOAD FAIL message will be posted and the upload will stop. A red FAIL will be shown beside the software that failed. Press enter to acknowledge the fail message and to continue the same software load. If unable to load the software after several attempts, uncheck the software and configuration boxes using the ENT softkey and press the LOAD softkey to continue with the rest of the software load before troubleshooting cause of failure. H. Monitor the upload status. When the Upload Complete message is shown, push the ENT key to select OK. NOTE: Thiscantakeupto90minutes. WARNING: DO NOT CONFIGURE AN OPTION THAT IS NOT INSTALLED ON THE AIRPLANE. 8. Continue with the software load for the additional items shown in TABLE 2 (refer to TABLE 3) as follows: NOTE: While you select additional items, you may have to change the airframe menu from specific model (C350 or C400) to options menu. A. Turn the large FMS knob counterclockwise to go to the FILE menu. B. Turn the small FMS knob to expand the FILE pull down menu field and highlight one of the software uploads that is applicable for your airplane. C. Push the ENT key. Page 10 June 21, 2011
11 D. Push the LOAD soft key to install the software. E. Monitor the upload status. When the Upload Complete message is shown, push the ENT key to select OK. F. Do Steps 8A thru 8E again until all applicable (refer to TABLE 3) software uploads are complete. G. Press the FMS knob to unselect the cursor. 9. Do the PFD configuration module update: A. Push the UPDT CFG softkey. B. Select YES and push the ENT key when the UPDATE CONFIG MODULE? message shows. C. Push the ENT key to select OK after you see the UPDATE CONFIG COMPLETE message. 10. Complete the basic software load and system verification procedures as follows: A. Do the manifest configuration verification: (1) On the PFD, turn the large FMS knob to go to the SYSTEM group. Turn the small FMS knob to go to the MANIFEST CONFIGURATION page. (2) (Refer to TABLE 4.) Make sure that the data file and file version shown in TABLE 6 are shown inthesystemfieldwindow. TABLE 4. Data File File Version 006-B (3) Make sure that the applicable information shown in TABLE 5 is shown in the MANIFEST field window. NOTE: This data file is near the bottom of the list. TABLE 5. Model Data File File Version D D Put the CROSSTIE switch and the AVIONICS MASTER switch in the off position. 12. Put the left and the right BATTERY MASTER switches in the off position. 13. Disengage the PFD circuit breaker. 14. Remove the SD card from the top slot on the PFD. 15. Do the system checks as follows: A. Install the GDU Supplemental Data SD Cards in to the bottom slot on the PFD and the MFD units. B. Install the Electronic Checklist SD Card in to the top slot on the MFD, if applicable. C. Engage the PFD circuit breaker. D. Put the left and the right BATTERY MASTER switch to the ON position. E. Put the CROSSTIE and the AVIONICS MASTER switches in the ON position. June 21, 2011 Page 11
12 F. Make sure that no G1000 system messages, alerts, annunciations, or Red X s are shown on the PFD or the MFD on the AUX-SYSTEM STATUS page. NOTE: Reference Garmin Line Maintenance Manual Revision G (or later revision) for troubleshooting instructions. G. Make sure that the GFC-700 Pre-Flight Test completed successfully. If not, refer to Section 2.10 of the Garmin G1000 System Maintenance Manual. (Refer to the Garmin G1000 System Maintenance Manual, Part Number , Revision G (or latest revision).) 16. Put the CROSSTIE and the AVIONICS MASTER switches in the off position. 17. Put the left and the right BATTERY MASTER switches in the off position. 18. Remove external power receptacle. 19. Make an entry in the airplane logbook that states compliance and method of compliance with this Service Bulletin. 20. (For airplanes equipped with TAWS-B) Do the enablement of Garmin G1000 Terrain Awareness Warning System Class-B (TAWS-B). Refer to SB Original Revision or later and do the steps that install TAWS-B. 21. (For airplanes equipped with Chartview) Do the Garmin G1000 Avionics Chartview Option, SB Revision 1 or later. NOTE: Airplanes equipped with GDU Supplemental Database SD Cards will do the same procedures as cards described in SB Revision 1 or later. 22. (For airplanes equipped with Garmin Synthetic Vision Technology) Do the enablement of Garmin G1000 Synthetic Vision Installation, SB (or latest revision).
