1 Garmin G3000 Database Loading G3000 ChartView Update Jeppesen ChartView works on a 14-day cycle. Uploading at the aircraft does not take a great deal of time and can normally be done on battery power, but a GPU is advised. The following steps outline the procedure for updating ChartView. 1) Remove the lower Garmin SD card from PFD 1, MFD, & PFD 2. (Figure 1) GARMIN LOWER SD CARD Figure 1 2) Place the PFD 1 lower SD card in the SD card adapter of your computer. 3) With the computer connected to the internet, open Jeppesen Distribution Manager (JDM). Enter the user ID and password. (Figure 2) Figure 2 4) The Distribution Manager will display all the available databases in your account. 1

2 5) Scroll down to Garmin G Electronic Charts with the correct cycle & effective date. Coverage is shown below the cycle. (Figure 3) Figure 3 6) Right click in the Garmin G Electronic Charts box. Select Program to Media. (Figure 4) Figure 4 7) Select the removable GARMIN (?:) drive, where drive GARMIN (?:) is the SD card reader/adapter. 3 8) The system will download the file followed by programming to the SD card Don t pull the card out during the programming phase. (Figures 6 & 7) Figure 6 Figure 7 9) When download is complete, take the SD card out. 10) Repeat steps 5 through 9 for the MFD and PFD 2 cards. 11) With aircraft power OFF place the cards back in the bottom slot of PFD 1, MFD, & PFD 2. 12) Apply aircraft power. NOTE: A verifying message will be displayed on each of the main displays. 13) The MFD splash screen will display database status on the right side of the screen. (Figure 8) Figure 8 3

4 14) Turn aircraft power OFF. NOTE: The GTCs do not seem to sync the databases easily, so this procedure has been developed to improve the syncing process: Pull the MFD circuit breaker. Pull the R Touch Control circuit breaker. Apply aircraft power. When the left GTC is synced (Home or Initialization screen appears), wait one minute, and then pull the L Touch Control circuit breaker. Engage the R Touch Control circuit breaker. When the right GTC is synced (Home or Initialization screen appears), wait one minute, and then turn off aircraft power. Engage the L Touch Control and MFD circuit breakers. Apply aircraft power. 15) From the HOME screen on the GTC touch UTILITIES > SETUP > AVIONICS STATUS > DATABASE 16) Verify expiration date on MFD1, PFD1, PFD2, GTC1, and GTC2 to ensure update was successful. 17) The Garmin lower display cards must remain in the aircraft displays to prevent error messages from displaying. 5 G3000 NavData Update Jeppesen NavData works on a 28-day cycle. Uploading at the aircraft does not take a great deal of time and can normally be done on battery power, but a GPU is advised. The following steps outline the procedure for updating the NavData. 1) Locate the spare SD card for NavData updates. Warning: It is very important not to use one of the SD cards that resides in the displays. It must be a separate card. 2) Place the card in the SD card adapter of your computer. 3) With the computer connected to the internet, open Jeppesen Distribution Manager (JDM). Enter the user ID and password. (Figure 1) Figure 1 4) The Distribution Manager will display all the available databases in your account. 5) Scroll down to Garmin G NavData with the correct cycle & effective date. 7 Figure 6 9) When download is complete, take the SD card out. 10) With power off, pull MFD and R PFD circuit breakers (right side of cockpit). 11) Place the SD card in the TOP slot on PFD 1. 12) Turn aircraft power on. The screen will display a message similar to Figure 7 asking if you want to update the standby navigation database on the bottom card. 13) Always select YES. (Figure 7) NOTE: No is assumed if Yes is not selected within allotted time. Figure 7 14) The display will ask if you want to update the active navigation database. (Figure 8) 15) If the database is being updated prior to the expiration of the previous database cycle, then select NO. 16) If the database is being updated on the expiration date or later on the previous database cycle, then select YES. NOTE: When the previous database cycle expires, the standby database will become the active the first time the aircraft is powered up after that date (as stated on the screen in Figure 7). Figure 8 17) After download is complete the display will start in normal mode. 7

8 18) When complete, remove the NavData SD card. 19) Remove the Diagnostics SD card from the top slot of the MFD. 20) Insert NavData SD card in the TOP slot on the MFD, push in the MFD circuit breaker. Answer the questions on the MFD exactly the same as on PFD1. 21) When complete, remove the NavData SD card and re-install the Diagnostics SD card in the TOP slot of the MFD. 22) Insert NavData SD card in the TOP slot on the right PFD. Push in the R PFD circuit breaker and answer the questions on PFD2 exactly the same as on PFD1 and the MFD. 23) When the last update is complete, and the right PFD has a normal display, turn aircraft power OFF. 24) Remove NavData card from right PFD. 25) Turn aircraft power ON. The MFD splash screen will display with your database status on the right side of the screen. (Figure 9) 26) Check the date to ensure the update was successful. 27) Turn aircraft power OFF. 9 G3000 SafeTaxi, Obstacle, and Airport Directory Databases SafeTaxi, Obstacle and Airport Directory databases are updated on a 56 day cycle. Uploading can take up to minutes for the synching process, so a GPU is advised. The following steps outline the procedure for updating the SafeTaxi, Obstacle and Airport Directory Databases. NOTE: Each database must be updated separately to the lower MFD SD card 1) Remove the lower Garmin SD card from the MFD. (Figure 1) GARMIN LOWER SD CARD Figure 1 2) Place the card in the SD card adapter of your computer. 3) With the computer connected to the internet, open Jeppesen Distribution Manager (JDM). Enter the user ID and password. (Figure 1) Figure 1 4) The Distribution Manager will display all the available databases in your account. 5) Scroll down to Garmin G3000 Airport Directory with the correct cycle & effective date (if database is subscribed to). Coverage is shown below the cycle. (Figure 2) 9

12 9) When download is complete, take the SD card out. 10) Repeat steps 5 through 9 for other databases Obstacles and SafeTaxi Databases as subscribed to. 11) With aircraft power off place the card back in the bottom slot of MFD. 12) Apply aircraft power. Note: A verifying message may be displayed on the screen, wait for the system to finish loading before proceeding. 8) The MFD splash screen will display database status on the right side of the screen. (Figure 7) Figure 7 16) Select aircraft power OFF. 17) Wait 30 seconds, select aircraft power ON. 18) From the HOME screen on the GTC touch UTILITIES > SETUP > AVIONICS STATUS > DATABASE. 19) Verify expiration date on MFD1, PFD1and PFD2 to ensure update was successful. 20) Verify airport directory expiration date on GTC1 and GTC2 to ensure update was successful. 21) The Garmin lower display cards must remain in the aircraft displays to prevent error messages from displaying. 12

13 G3000 Terrain Database Update Terrain Database is updated on an as needed basis, and not on a regular schedule. GPU is advised when uploading to the aircraft. The following steps outline the procedure for updating the Terrain Database. 1) Remove the lower Garmin SD card from the PFD 1, MFD, & PFD 2. 17 G3000 Basemap Database Update Basemap Database is updated on an as needed basis, and not on a regular schedule (rare). GPU is advised when uploading to the aircraft. The following steps outline the procedure for updating the Basemap Database. 1) Remove the lower Garmin SD card from the PFD 1, MFD, & PFD 2. (Figure 1) GARMIN LOWER SD CARD Figure 1 2) Place the PFD 1 lower SD card in the SD card adapter of your computer. 3) With the computer connected to the internet, open the flygarmin website. Use the user ID and password. The Basemap database is only available from Garmin, so if the only account is through Jeppesen, an account will need to be setup at Garmin. 4) The account screen will display if a Basemap database is available. 5) When you have chosen the database you need, then click Browse. 6) Select the removable drive GARMIN (?:) where drive GARMIN (?:) is the SD card reader/adapter, and then OK. 7) The system will complete a download followed by an installation- Don t pull the card out during the installation. 8) When download is complete, take the SD card out. 9) Repeat steps 6 through 8 for the MFD and PFD2 cards. 10) With the avionics and aircraft power OFF place the cards back in the bottom slot of PFD1, MFD, & PFD2. 11) Turn aircraft and avionics power ON. A verifying message may be displayed on the screen, wait for the system to finish loading before proceeding. 12) From the HOME screen on the GTC touch Utilities > Setup > Avionics Status > Database tab. 13) Verify expiration date on MFD1, PFD1, and PFD2 to ensure update was successful. 14) The Garmin lower display cards must remain in the aircraft displays to prevent error messages from displaying. 17

18 G3000 Database Information flygarmin Website o is the Home page for flygarmin, for updating the Basemap database. o Questions can be directed to: Jeppesen Website o is the Home page. o On the right side of the screen is the download for Jeppesen Distribution Manager or JDM for short. This is what is used to update all of the databases except Basemap. o When setting up an account, as for the Pilot Pak for G3000. This will include everything you will need so that you do not have to go to Garmin for SafeTaxi, Obstacle, or Airport Directory databases. o If a download needs to be reloaded you can contact Jeppesen at: Pacific-Americas or Europe-China
