1 Technical Bulletin M7+ Multi Touch Display Software Installation M Document Description: This document describes how to install all software required for the M7+ Multi touch Display. It also helps you determine if you need to do any installation, and which of two procedures you should perform if you do. Installation Procedure Determination: The M7+ Multi touch Display requires the installation of a Windows driver and the MDC Manager application. MDC Manager is the replacement for the M7 Power Control software Data911 has provided in the past; PowerMon and RPMService. MDC Manager provides a way to monitor and control settings for the MDC Power Control module as well as the M7+ Display and other optional M7 devices. If you have received your M7+ display as part of an M7 package all software needed has already been installed. You can proceed directly to the M7+ Display Install Guide and M7 Installation Addendum A MDC Manager Power Settings documentation provided for information on installing the display and configuring MDC Manager. To verify you have this software installed double click the icon shown in fig. 1 and confirm the application window that appears is titled Data911 MDC Manager. If so you do not need to install any additional software.

2 Figure 1 MDC Manager Icon in system tray If you are installing the display on an existing M7, or the icon does not appear or shows the Data911 Power Monitor Application instead, then additional installation is required. First determine if you have the Power Monitor application installed, again by looking for the icon in fig. 1 and double clicking it. If Power Monitor is installed (which will likely be the case in an existing M7) that software must be removed before proceeding with installation of MDC Manager. See Power Monitor Uninstall section below. If neither Power Monitor nor MDC Manager is installed proceed directly to MDC Manager Install section below. 3 Recommended precautions: First determine if you need to install MDC Manager, and if so if you need to first remove the Data911 Power Monitor software. Refer to Installation Procedure Determination section above. Installers, uninstallers, and setup programs should be "Run as Administrator" by right clicking the programs and clicking on "Run as Administrator". Shutdown after uninstall or install new software within 5 min. Power Monitor Uninstall: The old power management software is in two parts and requires manually deleting one part and shutting down the computer. 1. Uninstall old user software (PowerMon). a) Example: i) Go to the Start Menu. ii) In the Search Bar type in Add or Remove Programs. iii) Click On Add or Remove Programs in the Search Results. iv) Click on PowerMon in Add or Remove Programs. v) Click on Uninstall (might be slow). vi) Click Yes or Ok to continue uninstalling.

Manually remove service. b) Example: i) Go to the Start Menu. ii) Click on Computer. iii) Open the folder C:\RPMService\ (default install location). iv) Right click on "StopRPMService.BAT" and "Run as Administrator". v) Right click on "UnregisterRPMService.BAT" and "Run as Administrator". vi) Delete the folder "C:\RPMservice\". vii) Shutdown Windows or the watchdog timer kills power within 5 min.

6 MDC Manager Install: The new software requires installation of a Windows driver and the MDC Manager application in two separate steps. 1. Install Windows control port driver: a. Install the correct driver for your Windows version. i. 64 bit: "dpinst amd64.exe" ii. 32 bit: "dpinst x86.exe" b. Example: i. Open the folder USB Control Port. ii. For 64 bit Windows, right click on dpinst amd64.exe, and "Run as Administrator". iii. For 32 bit Windows, right click on dpinst x86.exe, and "Run as Administrator". iv. Click Next or Accept until finished, then click "Finish". 2. Install the MDC Manager MSI file. Installers have version numbers in the file names. Use the latest available unless directed by Hardware Service. Example: i) Install latest MDC Manager (1) Right click on MDCManager.msi and Run as Administrator. (a) Click "Next", or "Install" until finished, then click "Finish". ii) The MDC Manager icon should appear in the system tray. iii) Open MDC Manager by double clicking the icon and verify you have three tabs; General, Power and Display. It may take a few seconds for these tabs to appear, as it scans and identifies the connected devices. Important Note, Firmware Reflashing : If the version of MDC Manager installed is a more recent version than the Display was programmed for, it will automatically update the display s internal program, or firmware.

7 While MDC Manager is reflashing the display firmware you should notice the following: 1. The Display tab will disappear as soon as MDC Manager determines it needs new firmware. 2. The General tab will show the message in fig. 2 as it performs the firmware update (also know as firmware flashing ). 3. When the update finishes the display will go blank for a brief moment as it resets itself (and loads the new firmware), and the Display tab will reappear. It is important (not critical) to allow MDC Manager to complete the firmware update before shutting the system down. It should complete within 1 minute. If you do not it will start over as soon as Windows starts again. Figure 2 Display firmware in progress message Troubleshooting: Contact Hardware Service if there are problems info on page 1. If the M7+ Display works, there is either a Display tab, or at the top of the General tab there will be a notice that the firmware is flashing. See the Important Note, Firmware Reflashing above.

8 If there is no usable driver installed, the USB Control Port appears in "Device Manager" in Other Devices as Data911 Display USB Control Port. If installed correctly, the USB Control Port appears in Universal Serial Bus Controllers" as "USB Serial Converter". There are no COM port numbers associated with the M7+ (USB Control Port).
