2 LiDAR at CEC CEC LiDAR Histor y CEC began utilizing LiDAR data provided by other companies star ting in June CEC purchased both a mobile and terrestrial LiDAR system in January 2013.

3 LiDAR 101 What is LiDAR? LiDAR is a 3D survey technology that uses pulses of light to measure and record objects from a distance. LiDAR data is most commonly referred to as a point cloud. While the 3D scene looks like a model, it is actually comprised of millions of individual survey points. Light Detection And Ranging Along with X,Y,Z coordinates, LiDAR also collects reflective proper ties.

6 Aerial LiDAR f o r w i d e - a r e a s u r v e y i n g a n d m a p p i n g Applications Aerial LiDAR data collection is typically used for wide area mapping or areas that are inaccessible to terrestrial vehicles. Multiple returns allows for data penetration of thick foliage. Leaf on is not an issue. Aerial LiDAR is ideal for DTMs, detailed contouring, and flood plain analysis.

7 Terrestrial LiDAR c a p t u r i n g s c e n e s i n d e t a i l Applications Terrestrial LiDAR is collected from a single location and does not incorporate any motion. This collection method provides the highest density and detail, typically favored by architects. Terrestrial LiDAR is normally utilized for architectural as-builts, piping networks, identifying change over time, and crime scene preservation.

11 Mobile LiDAR t h e n u t s a n d b o l t s Applications Mobile LiDAR is primarily utilized for high density, high accuracy corridor mapping. Mobile LiDAR accuracies range from GIS or GPS grade to survey grade needed for design level accuracies.
