TUTORIAL C-29C: REVIT - NONCEILING BASED LIGHTS This Tutorial explains how to create your own light fixture that can be placed anywhere. Most lights in Revit are ceiling based/hosted meaning that you have to place them within a ceiling. Not all spaces always have a ceiling and sometimes lights want to be on walls, columns, components, etc. The following tutorial will make a light that does not rely on a host. By Jeremy L Roh, Professor of BIMethods UNC Charlotte s School of Architecture
This tutorial will walk you through the steps to create a wall sconce that is not required to be hosted to any walls or ceilings. Load Revit and select the Light Fixture.rft template file.
2) Select the Light Source Definition tool icon. 1) Select the light source on the plan view.
Change the light source to a halfsphere and click OK.
2) Click the Home tab and then the Set tool icon above the Work Plane ribbon. 1) Select the Light Source Definition 3) Select the (F/B) work plane from the pull down menu

Select the dimension icon on the temporary dimension string to turn this dimension into a real dimension.
2) Select <Add parameter...> from the pull down menu next to Label. 1) Select the dimension.
Create a new parameter as shown below. Make it an Instance parameter.
The parameter is added to the dimension string.
