2 NOTES TO THE CONDUCTOR has een a jazz standard or so long that many people dont realize that it as originally ritten y Bronisla aper or a ilm o the same name, starring Lana Turner aper as a prodigious ilm composer, ho did nearly 150 ilms, ut perhaps his greatest git to us as this great song, hich has een recorded y a multitude o jazz artists There as one recording that recently caught my attention, y the legendary pianist Oscar eterson This perormance as not one that a lot o people got to hear, since it as taen not rom a record, ut rom a shortlived television sho Oscar hosted in Canada In each sho, O ould play a e tunes ith his trio (consisting o Ray Bron on ass and Ed Thigpen on drums) The solo that Oscar played that day is the inspiration ehind this arrangement I transcried it and rote the arrangement or the hat Band so that it ould interact ith the solo My desire as to create a collaoration o sorts ith that great genius a dialogue eteen the soloist and the and playing ehind him You can hear the Big hat Bands version o (eaturing me on piano and Bo Summers on trumpet) on Telarc International When it comes to the solo part to this arrangement, I learned the hard ay that hat is easy or Oscar eterson is not all that easy or the rest o us!
