2 ROGRAM NOTES aco Beranek s Sonata or Violin and iano comines several musical elements to orm one, uniied comosition It incororates a variety o inluences rom dierent styles and origins, and derives insiration rom the works o many Euroean comosers o the 0th century Given his strong Czech and German ancestry, the comoser seeks to relect his heritage while inusing modern twists into his music In the irst movement, the most serious o the three, a quiet energy is constantly resent, driving the music orward Interlay etween the two instruments is introduced, which ecomes more rominent throughout the iece The second movement egins in a somewhat umling manner, ut excitement uilds raidly Sections o layully rhythmic themes are contrasted with more lyrical ones that create an enticing musical conversation Ater the second movement s triumhant conclusion, a dreamlike theme is introduced y the violin to commence the inal movement This theme serves as a umingo oint or several variations that travel across the world and through the many emotions o the heart The kaleidoscoic ourney comes to an exuerant inale with strains o a oisterous Czech olk dance As a whole, the Sonata is anchored in contrasts etween musical extremes: humor with melancholy, olk with classicism, ensiveness with excitement, and laintive eeling with exultant raise aco Beranek Glory and raise to God, with whom all things are ossile!
