1 Installation Instructions TomTom (Mac) How to Load Coordinate Files Onto a TomTom GPS Device Using a Mac for TomTom models purchased in 2012 or before IMPORTANT NOTE: If your TomTom was purchased in 2013 or later, you must use TomTom s management software to load our GPS coordinate files onto your TomTom. If your TomTom device does NOT appear as an external drive in Finder (on a Mac), please follow our alternative set of directions. The process is easy and complete instructions are provided here. ALSO NOTE: You must have the appropriate European map installed on your device in order for these coordinates to work! (Check out our FAQs below for instructions on how to determine which maps are installed on your earlier model TomTom.) These instructions will guide you through the process of downloading our GPS coordinate file and then copying and pasting that file onto your TomTom GPS device. Although the instructions appear detailed, it is actually quite easy to load the coordinate file onto your TomTom. Just follow our step-bystep directions below.

2 CONNECT YOUR TOMTOM TO YOUR COMPUTER 1. Connect your TomTom GPS device to your computer using a USB cable. The larger end of the USB cable goes into the computer, and the smaller end plugs into your TomTom. Once the cable is connected, turn your TomTom on and wait a few seconds (and sometimes longer) for the GPS device to connect to your computer. When the TomTom asks you if you want to connect to your computer, press Yes on the TomTom s screen. NOTE: If your TomTom does not start automatically after you connect to your computer: First, make sure you are using the USB cable that was originally supplied by TomTom for your GPS device. Some aftermarket USB cables do not support the voltage required to properly connect the TomTom to your computer. Second, after you connect the TomTom to your computer using the USB cable that was originally supplied by TomTom for your GPS device, hold down and continue holding down the On/Off button, until a screen appears, asking whether you want to connect to Computer? Tap Yes and then continue with the process outlined below. 2. Locate the activation code in your ebook (easily found by searching in the ebook for the word activation ). 3. Go to This will take you to the page GPS Downloads for Adventures by Car ebooks. 4. Click on the link for your ebook (Tuscany or Ireland), and you will be taken to the downloads page. Select Download TomTom GPS Coordinates and you will be taken to the License Agreement for the GPS coordinate file. If you agree to the terms of the License Agreement, check the box, I agree to the terms of the License Agreement and then enter the complete code in the Activation Code dialogue box (using the hyphen). Now click Activate Download and your Mac will automatically download the file. 5. Close your browser to exit from the download website. 6. 3 7. In Finder you should see your TomTom in the left pane under DEVICES. Sometimes a GPS device is shown in Finder as recognized by a Mac as INTERNAL. You have connected the TomTom to your computer and are now ready to load the downloaded files onto the TomTom. 8. 4 9. Select both of the files you just downloaded (an OV2 file and a BMP file) by holding the Command key ( ) while selecting each, then right-click with your mouse and select Copy 2 Items : 9A. IMPORTANT: On some Macs, when you right-click on the GPS coordinate file you just downloaded, you might see a message like the following, asking you which application to use to open the file: If you receive the message above, continue with step #9B below. If you are able to select Copy from the drop-down menu (as shown in #9 above), then simply select Copy, skip step #9B and continue to step #10. 9B. It is not necessary to use an application on your Mac to open the GPS coordinate file you just downloaded. The Mac is simply a way of transferring the GPS coordinate files onto your GPS device. Thus, if you see a message asking you which application to use to open the file, click on Save (and not Choose Application ): Copyright Wanaka Enterprises, Inc Page 4 of 10

5 When you click on Save, another dialogue box opens as follows: Being sure that Downloads is selected (after Where:), click on Save again. This will then save the GPX coordinate file to the Downloads folder on your Mac. Now go back to Finder, select Downloads, select both of the files you just downloaded (an OV2 file and a BMP file) by holding the Command key ( ) while selecting each, then right-click with your mouse and select Copy 2 Items from the drop-down menu and proceed to step # In Finder, select TomTom (or INTERNAL) and then scroll down through the list of folders, without clicking on any of them, until you find the folder labeled Western_and_Central_Europe (or similar). If you only have the map of Ireland installed on your GPS, the folder will be named United_Kingdom_and_Republic_of_Ireland. ). This is the folder where the downloaded files need to be pasted. 6 11. Click on that folder (usually, Western_and_Central_Europe ), then right-click on your mouse and select Paste Items from the drop-down menu. This copies the GPS coordinate file onto your TomTom. 12. Wait a few moments for the file to be transferred from the Mac to your TomTom, then click on the triangle to the right of TomTom (or INTERNAL) in DEVICES to eject the TomTom. 7 13. To view the set of GPS coordinates on your TomTom, turn the device on. If a map screen similar to the following appears on your TomTom, simply tap anywhere on the screen to bring up the Main Menu This is the Main Menu screen. Now tap on Drive to Copyright Wanaka Enterprises, Inc Page 7 of 10

8 The Depart from screen will appear. Tap on Point of Interest A Point of Interest screen will now appear. Tap on the sunflower icon for the GPS coordinates you just loaded onto your TomTom (the name of the file may vary depending on which ebook you have purchased) NOTE: Depending on the model of your TomTom, you may have to navigate to POI category on the TomTom to view the list of GPS coordinates you just downloaded. The POI category screen on your TomTom is typically accessed by tapping Drive to, then Point of Interest. In the screen that appears next, tap on POI near Home and a Drive to screen will appear that looks almost identical to the screenshot above. Tap on the sunflower icon to access the GPS coordinates you just loaded onto your TomTom, which will be shown on the next screen in an alphabetical list called POI or POI categories, as shown below. 9 This takes you to the point of interest nearest your current location in the GPS coordinate file you just downloaded (Pienza, Italy in this example) All of the GPS coordinates are now loaded onto your TomTom as Points of Interest and are ready to go when you arrive in Italy or Ireland. There is no need to reload any of the coordinates after you arrive. We recommend that you load our coordinates onto your TomTom device before you leave on your trip. Then, after arriving in Italy or Ireland, turn on the GPS device after picking up your rental car, let it spool up (it takes a few minutes for the device to locate and lock onto satellites in a different continent), select your destination from the list of Points of Interest and away you go! The combination of one of our ebooks, accompanied by a set of GPS coordinates loaded onto your TomTom GPS device, will enable you to find the best places in Tuscany or Ireland and drive to them with ease. 10 FAQs Which maps are installed on my device? You must have the appropriate European map installed on your device in order for our coordinates to work. There are two methods of determining which maps are installed on your older (2012 or earlier) TomTom device: 1. Check the list of the folders and files that reside in your GPS device using Finder, as described on page 5 above. 2. You can also verify which maps are loaded on your particular TomTom device using TomTom Home if installed on your computer. (If TomTom Home is not installed on your computer, first go here to verify that that is the correct application for your particular device and then download the application from this website.) Assuming TomTom Home is installed on your computer, Connect your TomTom device to your computer using a USB cable Open TomTom Home Go to Manage my device Select the first tab, Items on device Select Maps This will display all of the maps installed on your particular device.
