Software Microsoft PowerPoint 2011 QuickTime 10 Page 2 of 6

3 Step One: Create Your PowerPoint Presentation 1. Create a Slide Presentation inside PowerPoint 2. Click on the Slide Show Tab 3. Click on Set Up Show 4. Select the radio button Browsed by an individual (window) 5. This will make the slide show open in a new window. 6. Click OK 7. Once you have completed your presentation click File>Save as Movie 8. PowerPoint will save your presentation as a movie to the location you selected. 9. Minimize PowerPoint OIT: One Contact Many Solutions (865) Register for additional training: Page 3 of 6

4 Step Two: Recording the Voice-Over in QuickTime 1. Open the movie presentation in QuickTime 2. With the movie open click File>New Screen Recording a. With the screen recording window open click the down facing arrow on the right side of the box and set up you microphone. 3. Click the Record Button 4. You are now recording everything in your open presentation window. 5. A message will appear telling you to select the screen you want to capture. Click and drag a selection around the window that contains your presentation. 6. Now simply click the play button on your presentation and start your narration. Click the pause button on the presentation to stay on a particular slide as you are talking click play again to allow the presentation to continue to the next slide in the movie. 7. When you have completed your narration go back to the Screen Recording window and stop the recording by clicking the Square Stop Button. 8. Your new movie will now save and open so you can preview the contents. 9. Click File>Export and save your movie to your preferred location. Page 4 of 6

5 Step Three: Trim Your Movie s Starting and Ending Points. If you notice a little bit of empty space at the beginning and end of your movie; it s really easy to trim off here s how: 1. Open the new presentation that contains the voice over you just created. 2. Click Edit>Trim 3. An editing window will open allowing you to trim the excess time from your movie. Simply drag the Start point to the right to trim off time at the beginning of the video and then drag the ending point to the left to trim time off the end of the move. 4. Test you trim by pressing the play button. If you are happy with the results simple press the Trim button. 5. You presentation will save and you are ready to upload it to your desired Internet location. Page 5 of 6

6 Step Four: Converting to MP4 to save server space (optional) Download the open source application Handbrake from 1. Open Handbrake 2. Select the source (the movie file you just created. 3. Select a destination for the mp4 version of your movie 4. Make sure the output format is set to MP4 5. Click Start 6. That s it your MP4 is saved and ready to put online. Page 6 of 6
