The advantages of performance and power consumption are driving companies to leverage multicore hardware. However, implementing multicore systems raises new challenges for development teams to effectively leverage the parallelism provided with a multicore architecture. V7.5.2 provides developers with a visual workbench, leveraging analysis and automation to assist in architecting, designing, and developing multicore applications reducing complexity of developing parallel applications and helping to optimize performance of applications leveraging multi-core processors. Systems engineers make critical design decisions that determine the success or failure of a project. V7.5.2 assists them with dynamic analysis so they can solve SysML parametric diagrams. This helps them make more informed design decisions and perform trade study analysis. The mathematical equations represented can be executed using solving engines with the results providing key information to help make more accurate design decisions early in development to avoid costly rework later. Many mobile devices are leveraging the Android platform. V7.5.2 improves its Java TM development support and introduces a visual environment for construction of Android software that allows you to represent the architecture of the Android applications. Embedded developers may often leverage C# to do a portion of their design along with traditional embedded languages and now they are able to also develop the C# portion using. With V7.5.2, C# structural code generation and reverse engineering is added providing embedded developers with another development option. Today's technologies rely on the exchanging information and being interconnected. V7.5.2 adds support for Data Distribution Service (DDS) middleware standard to describe the architecture and automate development of data-centric publish subscriber applications. Planned availability date June 11, 2010: Electronic availability July 2, 2010: Media availability Description V7.5.2 provides developers with: A visual development environment for C# to deliver applications integrating multiple technologies Parametric diagram analysis assists systems engineers to properly determine the most optimum system architecture/specification Additionally, support is provided to assist in delivering optimized applications for multicore targets and visualizing Android applications. New enhancements improve development of Java and Ada applications. Improvements are added for usability when targeting microcontrollers, supporting MISRA C and MISRA C++ standards, and integrating with other IBM Rational product lifecycle products. Addressing multicore challenges Many companies are looking at multicore hardware as an opportunity to realize significant price and performance improvements but also making the product development process more complex with many more design options to consider such as number of cores, communications, and load distribution. Specifying the wrong architecture can significantly reduce or even eliminate multicore benefits. 3 Use of existing source code to create model elements to reduce development time or to repartition existing code for a multicore solution. Simulation of the model to verify that it is correct and to simulate the complete application on a host environment for accurate and quick system validation. Trace requirements and changes from model creation through testing and final product release, saving significant development and testing time as well as improving the overall quality of the application. Using a model-driven approach to achieve higher product performance, reduce power consumption, reduce hardware costs, leverage existing intellectual property (IP) and innovate by adding new capabilities to existing devices. For more information on IBM Rational solutions for multicore, visit SysML Parametric Constraint Evaluation The Object Management Group (OMG) Systems deling Language (SysML) defines parametric diagrams to describe mathematical relationships and constraints of a system. V7.5.2 provides a parametric constraint evaluator which uses Maxima or The Mathworks Matlab Symbolic Math Toolbox to calculate unknown values, validate mathematical constraints, and determine minimum or maximum parameters of an attribute. Plots are produced showing how values behave over time and over a range of values of other attributes enabling systems engineers. Systems engineers can use the results to determine the most optimum system architecture and specification and perform trade studies to make better informed design decisions. Android development environment V7.5.2 delivers a reference model for the Android SDK that rovides a visual development environment leveraging Android from within IBM. A visual representation of the Android framework API is provided that developers can reference from within. The references are then generated into Java code to automate the manual coding task. Using the full behavioral code generation Rhapsody Developer for Java has provided for years, Android developers can quickly create the behavior of applications referencing Android and deploy to their Android targets. Support for Android development is also provided with Architect for Software with generation of the structural code. C# development Systems applications become more hybrid in nature mixing embedded, realtime and more traditional technology platforms. Many systems have C/C++/Ada components that interact with C#/Java components all developed by the same engineering teams. It is possible to reverse engineer and generate structural code for C# with V7.5.2 providing developers with another programming language option for Developer for C++, C and Java, Developer, and Architect for Software. Existing code that is written in C# can be visualized within IBM Rational Rhapsody through export from Microsoft Visual Studio for better understanding of the architecture. V7.5.2 provides the ability to generate structural C# code from the UML model so developers can produce applications faster. Data Distribution Services (DDS) support Reacting to data in real time is a key ingredient for smarter, interconnected systems. The Data Distribution Service for Real Time Systems provides a middleware for building distributed real-time systems enabling to share information among multiple components in a Global Data Space. The exchange of information is done using a data centric publish-subscribe architecture that loosely couples components enabling anonymous exchange of data between disparate systems. 4 Developer for C++ provides a profile based on the Unified deling Language (UML) profile for DDS that enables users to architect publisher and subscriber components middleware standard to describe the architecture and generate code that leverages DDS to automate development of data-centric publish subscriber applications.
