1 ACM GS- I Quick Start Guide Thank yu fr purchasing the ACM GS-I management gateway. This Quick Start walks yu thrugh installatin, cnfiguratin & lcal peratin. Mre details are available in the User Manual, which can be dwnladed frm: Step 1 Check kit cntents ACM GS-I appliance. External rack and DIN rail munt tabs. Green terminal blck and 3G antenna. UTP cables. Straight (319014) & crssver (319015) DB9F-RJ45s. Straight (319016) DB9M- RJ45. Quick Start. 12VDC pwer pack. Step 2 Cnnect the hardware Nte: Attach rubber feet t base and/r attach the desired munting tab Screw the 3G antenna n t the main Cell (M) cnnectr, if yu have purchased a diversity r GPS antenna, screw it n t Cell (A) Cnnect the Ethernet LAN 1 prt t yur primary netwrk, cnnect LAN 2 t a secndary netwrk, e.g. external management switch r VLAN Cnnect yur serial devices t the SERIAL 1-8 prts, cnnect yur USB devices t the tw USB prts Plug in the green screw terminal blck and attach external sensrs and DIO Refer t the ACM5500-I Addendum fr details n RS422/485 and DIO. 2 Nte: When the PWR status LED is lit steadily and the H/B (heartbeat) is flashing, the appliance is ready fr activatin. Step 3 Set up appliance netwrking The appliance s default IP address is (subnet mask ). With a web brwser n any cmputer that is cnnected t the appliance via LAN: Enter int the address bar Lg in using the default system user name rt and the default passwrd default, a Welcme screen listing the basic cnfiguratin steps is displayed Nte: The cmputer must have an IP address in the same netwrk range ( x) as the appliance. Alternatively, yu can use the arping cmmand t set the IP address (refer t the User Manual r nline Knwledge Base FAQ fr details). The appliance als has DHCP client enabled by default. It will autmatically accept any netwrk IP address assigned by any DHCP server n yur netwrk, and will then respnd at bth and its DHCP address. Select Serial & Netwrk: Users & Grups and Edit the Rt User. Enter and cnfirm a new Passwrd and click Apply Select System: IP then Netwrk Interface (LAN 1) and check DHCP r Static fr Cnfiguratin Methd The appliance s secnd Ethernet prt is inactive by default. T activate: Select Management LAN Interface (LAN 2) and uncheck Disable Enter the IP Address and Subnet Mask fr this segment f the Management LAN (leaving Gateway and DNS fields blank) refer t the User Manual if yu wish t enable the DHCP server r change default firewall/ruter settings Nte: The appliance s firewall determines which prtcls and services can be used t access which prts and devices. By default nly HTTPS and SSH access is enabled t the appliance itself. Use the Service Access menu n System: Services t change settings fr the appliance itself (and fr cnnected serial prts). Similarly using the Frwarding & Netwrk menu n System: Firewall yu can permit IP access between devices n Netwrk Interface and Management LAN.

4 Step 4 Activate the cellular mdem Cntact Sprint and give them the ESN (Electrnic Serial Number) fr yur appliance. The ESN is lcated n underside f the appliance and als shwn n Status: Statistics: Cellular under Hardware Infrmatin). Select yur data plan and Sprint will send yu an with yur MSL, MDN and MSID numbers. At this pint the mdem is gd t g. Nte: Obtaining a public static IP address Sprint prvides an ptin that can be added n t certain plans, which will allcate a publicly reachable IP address. If yu require direct remte access t yur appliance withut the use f Call Hme r an utbund VPN, then yu will need this feature. T add this t yur Data/Vice+Data plan, request a Standard Static IP r a Reserved Static IP address be added t yur line. An additinal mnthly fee will apply. Fr mre infrmatin visit: Step 5 Cnnect the cellular mdem T set up an Always-n Out-f-Band cellular cnnectin: Select System: Dial then the Internal Cellular Mdem tab Select Enable Dial-Out and click Apply Select Status: Statistics then the Failver & Out-f-Band tab Verify the Cnnectin Status f Internal Cellular Mdem is Cnnected and nte yur allcated IP Address (take nte if it s a private IP address) At any time yu may view the cellular signal strength (RSSI) frm the Cellular tab f the Status: Statistics page an RSSI f -100 dbm and less is unacceptable cverage, -99 t -90 is weak cverage, -89 t -70 is medium t high cverage, -69 and greater is very strng cverage Nte: Cellular mdem status is als shwn by the WWAN LED. The LED is ff when the mdem is nt pwered r being reset. When pwered, the LED turns n and flashes briefly every 5 sec while searching fr service. Once cnfigured and cnnected, the WWAN LED blinks mre rapidly. If yu have been allcated a public IP address, yu can nw access the appliance s HTTPS and SSH services directly. The public IP may be static r dynamic, depending n yur plan ptins. If yu have a dynamic public IP address that changes each time the appliance cnnects, yu may cnfigure the appliance s Dynamic DNS client in System: Dial, Internal Cellular Mdem.

6 If yu have been allcated a private IP address (i.e. in the 10.x.x.x, x.x r x.x range), direct remte access is nt pssible. Instead, use Call Hme r VPN t establish an utbund tunnel t an Opengear Lighthuse r VPN server, t enable remte access ver the tunnel. Step 6 Cnfigure managed devices Select Serial & Netwrk: Serial Prt t display the labels, mdes and prtcl ptins currently set fr each serial prt t cnfigure a prt fr remte access t the managed device s serial cnsle (refer t the User Manual if ther mdes are required): Cnfigure the Cmmn Settings (Baud Rate, Parity, Data Bits, Stp Bits and Flw Cntrl) t match thse f the device being cntrlled Select the Cnsle Server prtcls (e.g. SSH, Telnet, Web Terminal) that are t be used fr the netwrk cnnectin t this cnsle A Lgging Level may als be set t specify the directin and level f infrmatin t be lgged fr that prt Click Apply device cnsles can nw be accessed using yur preferred client (e.g. PuTTY, SecureCRT, OpenSSH) and in Manage: Devices Netwrk managed devices cnnected via the Management LAN (LAN 2) can be accessed in a number f ways: Select System: Firewall and define a Prt/Prtcl Frward rule Use a VPN client t cnnect t the appliance s Serial & Netwrk: OpenVPN, IPsec VPN r PPTP VPN server Add Serial & Netwrk: Netwrk Hsts t permit yur preferred SSH client r SDT Cnnectr t establish an SSH prt frward t the device The appliance s default firewall plicy is a NAT gateway cnfiguratin, s netwrk devices are permitted utbund WAN access via the masqueraded cellular cnnectin User access plicies may be cnfigured lcally in Serial & Netwrk: Users & Grups and/r remtely with a AAA server, refer t the User Manual fr details Step 7 Other mdes and functins This guide sets up the cellular cnnectin in Always-n mde. An alternative is Failver mde, where cellular is used as an autmatic backup cnnectin.
