TCP/IP cnverters are designed t perate serial prts ver 100M bps Ethernet netwrks. The data is transmitted via TCP/IP prtcl. Therefre, cntrl is available via Ethernet, Intranet and Internet. EX9132C-RS485 cnverter is packaged in a PVC material case well suited fr industrial envirnments. It prvides ne serial RS422/RS485 (Aut- Detect) prt. 7 EX9132C-RS485 2 EX9132C-RS485 Descriptin & Installatin 2.1 Tp view 2.2 Right Side Serial I/O Prt f RS422/RS485. Cnnect the serial data cable between the cnverter device and the serial devices. Fllw the parameter setup prcedures t cnfigure the cnverter (see the fllwing chapters). 2.3 Pwer Supply(Left Side) EX9132C-RS485 TCP/IP cnverter device is pwered by a single 9/12/24VDC (inner psitive/uter negative) pwer supply and 500mA f current. A suitable pwer supply adapter is part f the packaging. Cnnect the pwer line t the pwer jack at the left side f EX9132C-RS485 TCP/IP cnverter device and put the adapter int the scket. 8 2.4 Ethernet LAN Prt The cnnectr fr netwrk is the usual RJ45. Simply cnnect it t yur netwrk switch r Hub. When the cnnectin is made, the LAN LED indicatr will light up. When data traffic ccurs n the netwrk, red DATA LED indicatr will blink during data transferring and receiving. 2.5 Reset Buttn If by any chance, yu frget the setup passwrd, r have incrrect settings making EX9132C-RS485 cnverter inperable. First, turn n the pwer. Secnd, use any pint tip t push this buttn and hld it abut 3 secnds All the parameters will be reset t the factry default. But d nt ver 5 secnds, it will enter update mde 2.6 LED Indicatrs RX/TX (Green): Prt data transmitting indicatr (When data are sending t the netwrk, the LED will blink.) LINK (Red): Data Link indicatr (When data are Link by the netwrk, the LED will blink.) 10 3 EX9132C-RS485 Cnverter Cnfiguratin 3.1 Initial IP Cnfiguratin When sett up yur cnverter fr the first time, the first thing yu shuld d is t cnfigure the IP address. This chapter intrduces the methd t cnfigure the device server s IP address. Fr mre details abut netwrk settings, please see the Netwrk Settings sectin in Chapter 4, Web Cnsle Cnfiguratin. The fllwing tpics are cvered in this chapter: Device Management Utility f EXBrwser EXBrwser View EXBrwser Mdify IP EXBrwser Mdify MAC 3.2 Device Management Utility f EXBrwser On PC we prvide a Device Management Utility named EXBrwser.exe which is an executable prgram in Windws 32-bit envirnments. EXBrwser setup tl is used t detect and setup the installed cnverters. It uses UDP bradcast packets t query and cnfigure cnverters n the netwrk. When yu activate the tl, it will detect the existence f the installed cnverters and depict the cnverters status such as IP address, Subnet Mask, MAC Address, and Device ID (see Figure 4.1). The Setup Tl nly can setup ne cnverter at a time. Thus if there are mre than ne cnverter n the netwrk, please shut dwn r discnnect ther cnverters. Otherwise the EXBrwser.exe can nt detect the cnverter. Due t the nature f bradcast UDP packets, EXBrwser has fllwing characteristics: Bradcast packets are nt limited by subnet. Even if the IP address f the cnverters and the cmputer running EXBrwser that d nt belng t the same subnet, it still wrks fine. Bradcast packets can nt pass ruters. EXBrwser can nly be used t mnitr devices with cmputer running EXBrwser in the same segment f lcal area netwrk. 3.3 EXBrwser View View -> Refresh There are tw ways fr refreshing the status f existing devices. Yu may select the item View t refresh the status f existing devices n LAN. Anther is t click the icn as red clr remark as belw. EXBrwser will send anther query t get updated infrmatin. 11 Nte: Always run the Refresh after any data change. File -> Exit Alt+F4 Exit frm the prgram 3.4 EXBrwser Mdify IP Mdify IP -> Dialg Frame T click the device n the existing devices list in the EXBrwser table and then the functin bar will be enable. T press secnd icn f Mdify IP n functin bar and a dialg frame table will be shwn Assign an IP Address with the same Subnet Mask f yur cmputer, aviding any IP cnflict with ther netwrk devices. When yu press Cnfirm buttn, the IP address will be refreshed in 2~3 secnds. EX9132C-RS485 Versin Page 11

12 After click Cnfirm buttn and then Input Passwrd request will be pp-up n screen (see Figure 4.5). Please simply press Cnfirm buttn and the new device s IP will be changed and save in table, if yu changed it. 3.5 EXBrwser Mdify MAC Mdify MAC -> Dialg Frame T click the device n the existing devices list in the EXBrwser table and then the functin bar will be enabled. Please simply press Cnfirm buttn and the new device s MAC will be changed and save in table, if yu changed it. 3.6 Web Brwser Cnfiguratin The fllwing tpics are cvered in this chapter: Serial T Ethernet Cnverter Setup Lgin Setting Lgin Setting Page Field Descriptin Parameter Setting Parameter Setting Page Field Descriptin Lgin Setting In additin t basic IP address and subnet mask, specific device settings can be set thrugh HTTP prtcl with ppular brwsers, e.g. Internet Explrer, Netscape, etc. Setup f the cnverters is as easy as surfing n WWW, n special sftware will be required. 14 Setup cnverter device is as easy as surfing n WWW; n special sftware will be required. Ppular Brwsers, such as IE, r Netscape, can easily d the setup prcess. In the brwser URL field, set the IP address f device directly, t enter the Lgin Setting page, please fllw the steps belw. Open yur brwser. This chapter will use IE as an example. In the brwser URL field, type the IP address f the cnverter directly and press ENTER. (The IP address is what yu set using the Device Management Utility as EXBrwser.) T press furth icn f Web Brwser n functin bar and a Lgin Setting Screen will be shwn (see Figure 4.9) t lgin int the device. Alternatively, if the IP address f the cnverter is already knwn, yu can cnnect t the cnverter directly by prviding its IP address in the URL field f brwsers Lgin Setting Page Field Descriptin System time elapsed The time elapsed since start f this device in [Day Hur: Minute: Secnd] frmat. This infrmatin can be useful in identifying the reliability f system. Firmware versin Cnverter firmware is identified by date cde. This infrmatin will be required lking fr technical supprt. Serial number It is a prduct serial number cde in the cnverter device and has been prvided by factry. Ethernet MAC Address Cnverter is a unique MAC (Media Access Cntrl) address used by Ethernet. 15 Passwrd This field is the administratin passwrd fr authenticatin. Factry default is empty. Hwever, it is nt recmmended t leave it empty in field peratin. If yu culd nt lgin, it means yu have t key in the passwrd. If yu d nt knw the passwrd yu can turn ff the pwer and then use any pint tip t push Reset buttn and hld it t turn n the pwer at the same time fr 5 secnds. The passwrd will be reset t the factry default. Cnverter device uses the same passwrd prtectin mechanism cmmnly used in Windws NT r UNIX. If there are mre than 3 cnsecutive failures in passwrd check during lgin, the lgin functin will be disabled fr 15 minutes. During this 15 minutes perid, even if yu supply crrect passwrd, lgin will nt prceed. This prevents intruders frm finding the passwrd by cmputer generated prgram. 3.7 Parameter Setting Page The Parameter Setting Page Type the crrect passwrd in the Passwrd field and click the Cnfirm buttn in the Lgin Setting page, then the Parameter Setting page will be shwn Nte: If yu frget the passwrd r can t lgin successfully, please cntact the manufacturer directly. 17 Parameter Setting Page Field Descriptin IP Address IP address f the cnverter, 4 numbers (1-255) separated by '.'. Dn t let it cnflict with ther devices in the netwrk. If DHCP client mde is enabled and a DHCP server is present in the netwrk, this field will be assigned by DHCP server autmatically. Subnet mask Subnet mask f the cnverter is used by default. Fr small netwrks fr larger netwrk, 4 numbers (1-255) separated by '.'. If yur IP address is prvided by an ISP r the internal netwrk administratr, please check if the infrmatin and type it crrect. If DHCP client mde is enabled and a DHCP server is present in the netwrk, this field will be assigned by DHCP server autmatically. Gateway address Gateway r Ruter IP address. 'Gateway' is a device which cnnects lcal netwrk t external netwrk. If yu need t cmmunicate with ther netwrks r yur device wns a real IP address n the internet, please check if this infrmatin and type it crrect. If there's n gateway n the netwrk, leave empty r set t If DHCP client mde is enabled and a DHCP server is present in the netwrk, this field will be assigned by DHCP server autmatically. DHCP client DHCP client mde can be enabled/disabled. If DHCP is enabled, there has t be a DHCP server in the netwrk. If DHCP is disabled IP address, Subnet mask, and Gateway address have t be assigned manually. Aut Reset Aut Reset will rebt the device if it has been discnnected r n data is transmitting fr a certain time (1-255 minute). Device Name Device name can be a string f up t 15 characters. Lgin Passwrd Fr security and management issues, yu may set the Lgin Passwrd. This administratin passwrd is used t lg int the cnverter. It may be empty r a string f up t 15 characters. Serial I O Prt 1 (RS422/RS485) This cnverter prvides ne RS422/RS485 prt fr cnnecting the serial devices. Lcal Prt Scket Mde Remte IP & Prt This cnverter prvides 1 scket prt fr the serial cnnectin. Prt number Scket prt assigned fr the serial prt. It s a 16-bit number in the ranging frm 1 t The numbers belw 1000 are reserved fr special prtcls (e.g. 80 is fr HTTP prtcl), we suggest t use a number larger than By default 4660 is used fr the serial cmmunicatin. 18 Scket type TCP Server: TCP prtcl, passive pen, t be cnnected frm the TCP clients. TCP Client: TCP prtcl, active pen, cnnect t the TCP server specified belw. UDP Client: UDP prtcl, cnnectinless. Remte IP address Server IP address f the TCP Server r UDP Client (in TCP Server mde leave empty r set t ). Remte scket prt Prt f the TCP Server r UDP Client (in TCP Server mde leave empty r set t 0). Interface f serial I/O Interface f serial I/O is autmatically detecting RS422 r RS485 (Aut Detect functin). It just depends n the cnnected serial devices. Baudrate Baud Rate: 300, 1200, 2400, 4800, 9600, 19200, 38400, 57600, , bps Parity, Data bits, Stp bit Parity: Nne, Odd, Even, Space, Mark. Data Bits: 5, 6, 7, 8. Stp Bit: 1, 2. Frce ff-line time Frce ff-line time will clse the scket prt if n data is transmitting fr a certain time (1-255 minute). Packet Cllect Time The cnverter will buffer data r the serial prt (Rx and Tx) until a specified time (Packet Cllect Time: millisecnds) n data will be transferred r the buffer is full. 19 3.8 Cntrller Updated Press Update ] Buttn after finish the detailed parameter setting. The cnverter will save all parameters int internal nn-vlatile memry and then rebt. It takes abut 5 secnds t cmplete the whle prcess, and a new lgin page will be presented. Yu can re-lgin and check if all parameters have been crrectly saved. If everything is k, yu can clse the brwser nw. Nte: If the dmain f the cnverter is different frm that f the cmputer running the brwser, the lgin page wn t appear unless the cnverter s Gateway Address has been crrectly set. 3.9 Factry Default Setting If yu frget the setup passwrd r have incrrect settings making the cnverter inperable, there are tw ways t reset the setting and the fllwing prcedures can be used t reset all settings t factry default: Please turn n the pwer and then use any pint tip t push Reset buttn fr 5 secnds. The passwrd will be reset t the factry default as empty. EX9132C-RS485 Versin Page 19

20 4 Setting Verificatin After cmplete the wiring and parameter setting, we shuld verify if the setting is crrect. This chapter will intrduce hw t use a single cmputer t test if the cnverter behaves well. The perating system can be Windws 95, 98, ME, XP, 2000, Vista, 7. 8, 10 The Hyper Terminal utility shuld be installed n yur PC (see Figure 5.1). It can be fund in yur Windws installatin CD. The wiring architecture is similar t RS232 Wiring in chapter 3, and the Serial Device is replaced by the PC s COM 1. The same PC als plays the rll f the Remte Hst. The fllwing tpics are cvered in this chapter: Hyper Terminal fr TCP/IP WinSck Hyper Terminal fr COM Prt Data Transmissin 4.1 Hyper Terminal fr TCP/IP WinSck Initiate a Hyper Terminal frm the Start Menu in Windws (see Figure 5.1), give a terminal name, chse an icn, and press OK buttn. 21 After OK buttn is pressed, Figure 5.4 appears. Enter the cnverter s IP address (e.g ) at the Hst address: field, and the Scket prt number set fr the Serial Prt at the Prt number: field (e.g 4660). (The Scket type f the Serial Prt shuld be TCP Server.) After OK buttn is pressed, Figure 5.5 appears. If the Hyper Terminal cnnects with the cnverter successfully, the time clck at the left lwer crner Cnnected hh:mm:ss will start cunting. EX9132C-RS485 Versin Page 21

22 4.2 Hyper Terminal fr COM Prt Initiate anther Hyper Terminal as a COM Prt Terminal (in Figure 5.3, select COM 1 r ther COM prt instead f TCP/IP (Winsck) ). Set the COM prt Prperties t be the same as thse set fr the Serial Prt f the cnverter. Page 22 EX9132C-RS485 Versin

23 4.3 Data Transmissin When all steps described abve are finished, type any texts n the COM Prt Terminal and check if the texts are als displayed n the TCP/IP Winsck Terminal. Alternatively, check if the characters typed n the TCP/IP Winsck Terminal are als displayed n the COM Prt Terminal. If yes, then all settings are crrect and the cnverter can perate prperly. 24 5 Appendix A FAQ Q. Why can t the EXBrwser.exe detect the cnverter n the netwrk? A. Please check if the pwer is prperly plugged t the cnverter. if the netwrk cable is prperly cnnected between the cnverter and the Hub. Please refer t the Hardware Installatin steps in Chapter 3. Q.
