2 AX 3000 Platine Terminal A versatile Cncept Designed and manufactured by AXEL, the dedicated electrnics f the terminal are implemented as highly integrated circuits, cmbining lw pwer cnsumptin with high perfrmance and reliability. The hardware is carefully integrated int a small, stylish base unit. One AX 3000 Device: tw functins - Terminal Functin - 8 independent and simultaneus sessins - Netwrk Server Functin - Multiple peripherals can be attached t the three AX 3000 auxiliary prts (printers, bar-cde readers, badge readers, tuch screens, etc). Using the remte set-up feature, cmplete clusters f AX 3000's can be cnfigured frm any pint in the netwrk.

3 Terminal Functins Multi-sessin Each Ethernet mdel AX 3000 prvides up t 8 independent and cncurrent telnet sessins. Each sessin acts as a virtual terminal and can use independent set-up parameters (emulatin, functin keys, vide attributes, etc). Multi-cnnectin lets any AX 3000 user run up t 8 simultaneus wrking sessins, n different hsts if required, and rapidly htkey between them. An ptinal (26 th ) status line displays infrmatin abut cnnectins (number f sessins, active sessin, etc). Standard Emulatins The AX 3000 can perate in any f the main multi-user envirnments, thanks t a wide range f emulatins including: - A clur ANSI emulatin, adapted by AXEL t match the majr multi-user perating systems: SCO UNIX (ansi), AIX IBM (hft-c), INTERACTIVE (at386) and SUN SOLARIS (ansi SVR4) - DEC VT220 emulatin - HFT emulatin fr AIX V4 r RS/6000 as an SNA gateway (tn3270) - VT AS400 emulatin fr OS/400 - WYSE 60 emulatin. Dwnladable Emulatins Additinal r custmized emulatins (such as SM9400, SM9412 and ATO 300) are available thrugh the firmware dwnlading feature. Predefined Set-Up AX 3000 predefined set-ups are user-friendly. Terminal installatin becmes a plug-and-play activity fr mst UNIX platfrms. Each predefined set-up autmatically uses the crrect cnsle emulatin and cnfigures main terminal parameters t match the perating system selected. TCP/IP Multi-Shell AXEL multi-shell sftware allws telnet sessins t run multiple shells withut the need fr multiple lgins. A single AX 3000 can run multiple telnet sessins, each supprting several shells. An example culd be tw TCP/IP cnnectins, t tw separate hsts, with fur shells running ver each cnnectin. Embedded Cluring Feature A cluring functin allws clur display f mnchrme applicatins (fr example VT220 emulatin). The AX 3000 perfrms the cluring prcess by generating a backgrund and a character clur fr each mnchrme character attribute (nrmal, reverse vide and underscre) r semi-graphic character. 4 Netwrk Server Functin Three auxiliary prts are prvided n the TCP/IP AX 3000: 2 serial prts, 1 parallel prt. T these prts a wide range f peripherals can be attached: bar-cde readers, printers, badge readers, tuch screens, etc. Each f these three prts can be accessed: - by escape sequences, prviding cmpatibility with existing applicatins, r - thrugh a netwrk service: the prt is independent f the telnet sessins. When using auxiliary peripherals, the AX 3000 still maintains its nrmal screen display capability. Print Servers Printers attached t an AX 3000 can be directly handled by the lpd and rcmd netwrk services. These services, which are a standard feature f the majr perating systems (UNIX, Windws NT, OS/400, etc.), enable a printer attached t an AX 3000 t be treated as a system printer. Remte tty Server AXEL's free "tty server" sftware is shipped with TCP/IP AX3000. This sftware allws any prt n an AX 3000 t be assciated with a UNIX pseud-terminal. The AX 3000 prt is accessed via standard read/write pseud-terminal peratins, s that the AX 3000's auxiliary prts appear amng the UNIX hst's lcal prts. Rtelnet Service Serial terminals can be attached t bth the AX 3000's serial auxiliary prts. These serial terminals are autmatically handled by the rtelnet service withut additinal sftware. Once the AX 3000 set-up prcedure has been used t assciate the serial prt with a hst, a lgin will appear n the serial terminal. Serial terminals can als be cnnected via mdems. The HAYES initialisatin cmmands are autmatically sent t the mdem whenever the TCP/IP AX 3000 is pwered up. The Universal Terminal The TCP/IP AX 3000 is equipped with flash memry. Flash technlgy allws different firmware t be dwnladed via the BOOTP and TFTP prtcls. Depending n what type f firmware has been laded, an AXEL terminal can be used as an: - Ethernet TCP/IP terminal, with multi-sessin and print server capability - SLIP/CSLIP serial terminal (direct r mdem cnnectin), with multi-sessin and print server capability - RS232 serial terminal with multi-sessin capability n UNIX via Axel sftware

Virtual terminals can have independent set-up parameters (emulatin, functin keys, vide attributes, etc) and allw the 8 different sessins t be simultaneusly cnnected t different platfrms, such as: UNIX (SCO, AIX, SVR4, etc.), OS/400, VMS, Windws NT. Fr example, sessins can be simultaneusly pened n SCO UNIX (using ANSI emulatin), n IBM AIX (with HFT emulatin) and n OS/400 (with VT AS400 emulatin). Remte Administratin Remte Set-Up The AX 3000 administratin utility allws an AX 3000 t be set up using rcmd/rsh cmmands and the RARP prtcl. The fllwing peratins can be perfrmed frm any pint n the netwrk: - setting-up an AX 3000, - saving an AX 3000 set-up t a text file, - prpagating a single custmized set-up t an AX 3000 cluster. This feature is particularly useful when many AX 3000 s have t be installed r when remte maintenance is required. Firmware Dwnlading The AX 3000 is equipped with flash memry. This technlgy allws upgrading, r the additin f new features, by dwnlading new firmware (via the BOOTP r TFTP prtcls). Fr example, firmware can be dwnladed: - T add new emulatins r - T replace the Ethernet TCP/IP firmware with SLIP/CSLIP r RS232 firmware (particularly useful when a whle site migrates frm RS232 t netwrk tplgy).

6 Technical Specificatins Cnnectin Different mdels f the TCP/IP AX 3000 prvide alternative direct netwrk interfaces: - RJ45 cnnectr, 10BaseT: mdels 55 and 55E - BNC cnnectr, 10Base2: mdel 56 The prt and prtcl used t cnnect t the hst can be different accrding t which firmware is dwnladed and used: - SLIP/CSLIP n AUX1 prt: direct r mdem cnnectin. The multi-sessin and print/tty server features are supprted. - RS232 n AUX1 prt. Features are identical t thse n the AX 3000 Mdel 40B.
