3 Tennis Anyone? Led by Tennis Pro Bob Denham, DSRC has one of the most extensive tennis programs in the area with something for the entire family. We mix tennis and fun with Friday Night Adult Tennis Socials, Tuesday Ladies' Night (beginners welcome to come early 6:30-7 pm for a little assistance in scoring and proper positioning), Wednesday Men's Night, and Thursday Teen's night. For the DSRC children, we have club subsidized clinics that we call "team practices" for players age 4 and up. Our youngest work at developing their eyehand/foot coordination, while the older and more accomplished compete against other local swim & racquet clubs. From beginner to advanced player, there is a lowcost program for every child. For those with a competitive streak we will have Club Tournaments, ladders, and men's and women's intra-club teams, where we play other clubs in our area. Bob offers a variety of daytime and evening clinics and lessons for all skill levels, including the popular Saturday Morning "Weekend Warriors" that improves your game and your conditioning. In addition to the weekend warrior program is a beginner/intermediate class taking place Saturday morning as well. We look forward to another great season and hope to see everyone on the courts. Bob s contact information: Demonstennisteam@yahoo. com or Tennis Team Registration: Step 1.Access Step 2. Click on EVENTS. Step 3. Click on April 18 ~ July 7, Tennis Registration Step 4. Follow the process to finalize tennis team information, payment, etc. Meet Bruce Goldstein, DSRC Tennis Program Coordinator Darnestown Swim and Racquet Club is proud to announce the addition of Bruce Goldstein to our staff as the newly created Program Coordinator. Bruce will be tasked with creating more club-wide awareness of the multitude of offerings DSRC provides. There will be a heavy emphasis on the junior tennis side of the club and the new day camp. He has a strong tennis background having worked as a teaching pro and tennis director at many area country clubs, including Norbeck, Manor and Indian Spring. Bruce will be helping out with some of the clinics and team practices, and he is looking forward to becoming very involved at the club. Welcome aboard Bruce. Meet Bruce Goldstein, DSRC s Tennis Program Coordinator. DSRC Communiqué Page 3
4 Club Safety and Supervision Reminder As always safety is our most important focus in the summer; please read below for important pool safety reminders that will help keep our children safe all summer long. 1) Make sure your children and guests swim in an area of the pool that is appropriate for their swimming ability. 2) Keep a close eye on your children or guests when they are in the main pool or the baby pool area. Our lifeguards are there to maintain a safe environment but there is no substitute for parents properly supervising their children. 3) All children under the age of 13 must always be supervised by an adult. They are not to be left unattended at the pool by themselves. 4) Notify the guards immediately if you see others not following pool rules, such as: a. Someone pushing others in to the pool. b. Dangerous rough-housing such as dunking or wrestling. c. Diving in No Diving Areas. 5) Follow all the posted pool rules and regulations. 6) Notify the Pool Manager of any other safety issues that you become aware of. We heard you, and DSRC is trying to improve communication. Please send your ideas, comments, and suggestions to Janet Swisher, DSRC Communication Director at janetswisher@verizon.net Just a reminder that we use a pre-paid snack bar system in which you pay with credit card or check and the amount paid is put on to your account and all purchases come off of this pre-paid amount until your account reaches a zero balance. We do not accept cash at the snack bar so money can only be added to your families account with a credit card or check. Please see the snack bar attendant for help or any questions regarding the snack bar. As always we are open to suggestions regarding food or drinks carried at the snack bar, we try our best to keep the snack bar a healthy place for people to get meals and snacks. 5 Member Highlight Meet Tyler and Conner Vafa; DSRC Members since 2010! Meet Susan and Ali Vafa. Susan is the DSRC Social Chair and Ali is an avid tennis player and right hand man to Susan. Meet Ali, Susan, Tyler and Connor who have been DSRC members since The Vafa family moved to the Darnestown area in 2004, from Gaithersburg. Susan is the DSRC Social Director and sits on the DSRC board. She has held this post for the past two years and hopes to be there for many more. Tyler is in 5th grade and excited about attending Lakeland MS next year. Connor is 8 and will be a 3rd grader. Both boys attend Darnestown Elementary School. When he is not on the DSRC tennis courts, he is a technical consultant and has been in the IT industry for the past 22 years. He has a passion for business, specifically online ecommerce. Actually it is more than an interest; Ali is a local Darnestown ecommerce entrepreneur. He has launched a new ecommerce website BUYHOOD.com. What exactly is BUYHOOD.com and how does it differ from its competition, you may ask? Great question! BUYHOOD.com is an ecommerce website designed from a consumer s perspective. We all like to save money. How great would it be to also support our local community in the process? As a Seller, BUYHOOD.com offers a low one-time listing fee for as long as it takes for the item to sell. They don t nickel and dime you. A fair price is charged for a great service. As a community member, they promote local transactions, which mean no shipping fees. When was the last time you found something using other services but noticed it was more expensive to have it shipped than what the item actually cost? Instead of telling you more about it, DSRC invites you to stop by the website and check it out for yourself. Use DSRC code BH2013 to list your items at no cost. Hurry, offer expires 7/5/13. BUY Local SELL Local SAVE Money Look for another featured MEMBER in our June newsletter. We believe it is nice to get to know your community swim and racquet club members. As you know DSRC is a community pool. Within our community we have many talents. Please donate your time and special talent to the pool whether it is graphic design, lawn service, handy-man, organization, etc. We need all the volunteers we can get! Thank you Vafa family for all you do at DSRC. DSRC Communiqué Page 5
