1 THE GOLDEN NUGGET THE NEWSLETTER OF THE GOLDEN WEST CALIFORNIA UNIT WBBCI, REGION 12, #008 AUGUST 2014 htt p: //g o ld enw est.w bcci. net EDIT OR: N AN CY H AR RIN GTON Special Points of Interest: Region 12 Rally, Pahrump, Nv., Oct Installation Rally, Laguna Seca, Nov 6-10 Happy Thanksgiving Merry Christmas Rio Viento Rally by Judy B. Ken and I, along with Roger & Roberta P. pulled into the Rio Viento RV park in Rio Vista early Thursday afternoon. Other GWU members attending the rally were Jim & Shari G. and Brian, Margaret & Ivy H. Roger & Roberta s granddaughter, Laura Jean, attended with them and proved that we are NOT smarter than a 5 th grader! Eric and Laverne M. of the Santa Clara Unit were the rally hosts. Other SCU members attending were Janiece F., Ernie & Dot F., Bill & Deborah D., Eray H. & Simon Y., Ross & Linda B., Allen & Linda S., and Bob & Cecelia S. (who left Saturday after the SCU meeting for a family outing). New SCU members attending were Dennis & Shirley S. and Gary & Pam P. Paul & Janice B. (Member At Large) also attended. Driving in for the day on Saturday were Debbie S., Carter & Connie S. and Jack & Kathy H. We now know why there are so many windmills around Rio Vista it s because the wind never stops blowing. Once we got used to the idea of not combing our hair, we enjoyed the weather and had some beautiful days. Of course, it was also a great place for kite flying which many of our folks did. One kite had two tails that were about 100 each. During the night it landed on trees behind our rigs but they were able to do a few gyrations and get it back in the air. Friday night we watched the movie the Long Long Trailer with Lucille Ball and Desi Arnaz. What a hoot!!! Popcorn was included to make our evening complete. SCU conducted their business meeting Saturday morning. Some GWU members also attended since we did not have enough members present to make a quorum. During the social time on Saturday afternoon, LaVerne, SCU President, installed the two new couples into the SCU. I think both couples felt very welcomed by the end of the rally. Saturday s dinner was a Hawaiian Luau theme with a dinner of kalua pork, sweet yams, salad and dessert. All the meals were wonderful and no one went away hungry. Saturday after dinner 17 of us played a Chicken Foot Domino Tournament. The 1 st place winner was Laura Jean (L.J.) Second and third place winners were Jack & Kathy H. During the game was when I determined we were not Smarter Than A Fifth Grader. See the photo of L.J. displaying her winnings. Throughout the rally there was a lot of kite flying, many games played and lots of good visits with everyone. The next GWU rally is the Reno Balloon Race Rally from 9/4 9/7 at the Boomtown KOA Campground on Highway 80. Hosts are Bob & Cecelia S. of the SCU. We will all need to get a good night s sleep because the balloons launch at 6:00 A.M. each morning. Saturday we will have a joint happy hour with the NorCal unit at the Sparks Marina RV Park. If you have not signed up yet, you will need to make your own reservations with the RV park but be sure to let Bob & Cecelia know you will be there. See you there!!! # # #

8 2015 OFFICERS BALLOT GOLDEN WEST CALIFORNIA UNIT 008 REGION 12 WBCCI Yes No President: Nancy Harrington Vice President: Ken Bechthold Secretary: Shari Gong Treasurer: Richard Kleiman Members mark your ballots and send them via mail or by Oct 4, 2014 to: Jack Whitcomb 3021 Shasta Way Sacramento, Ca
9 Below are the Motions being voted on at the coming Region Rally in Pahrump. In order for our Golden West Representative to vote he first must know our preferences. So Please take a moment to read the motion and at the bottom there is a box for your vote. Let me know your vote, one per membership, by ing me at: scottie148@sbcglobal.net or mailing it to me. REGION 12 MOTION FORM WALLY BYAM CARAVAN CLUB INTERNATIONAL, INC. Motion/Item No. 1 Meeting Date: October 18, 2014 Location: Pahrump, NV Motion: I move that a travel allowance for one of the Region 12 Vice Presidents be established for travel to the 2015 Mid-Winter Rally and IBT Meeting in Robstown, TX. All reimbursable expenses shall conform to the WBCCI Blue Book Bylaws and Policy, Page 35.2, Policy, Financial Disbursements, Paragraph 1, with an amount not to exceed $1,500. This allowance, if passed, would apply to either ground or air transportation. This allowance would be limited to the 2015 Mid-Winter Rally and IBT Meeting in Robstown, TX. Rationale: The Region Vice Presidents are becoming more involved, particularly in ad-hoc committees and it makes sense to have input from more than one Region 12 representative at the IBT meeting. A Region 12 Vice President's attendance at the Mid-Winter Rally and IBT Meeting will greatly enhance his/her preparation for ascension to the IBT. Additionally, it should be noted that in 2006 the Region 12 President attended the Mid-Winter IBT seminar in Anthony, TX, but became ill during the Rally to the point where he was unable to attend the Mid-Winter IBT Board meeting. However, since the Region 12 1 st Vice President was in attendance at the Rally, as a result of the 2006 Region 12 subsidy, he was able to attend and vote at the IBT Board meeting, thus ensuring a Region 12 voice on a number of important issues. Fiscal Impact: The Region 12 general fund will be charged with $1,500 with the passage of this motion. Enough net income has been received into the general fund from the various events sponsored by Region 12 to offset this cost. I Vote: Yes No Motion/Item No. 2 Meeting Date: 10/18/14 Location: Pahrump, NV I move that Region 12 donate $500 to the Wounded Warrior Project subject to the financial report of the Region Treasurer. Rationale: This is a continuation of donations we have given for the past two years. The Wounded Warrior Project has become an annual project with WBCCI. Financial Impact Statement: $500. I Vote Yes No
