As noted in the January Newsletter, your BCA, along with Bentwater Volunteer Families, will be holding the first ever FREE Career Day Workshop for all 6 th Grade thru 12 th Grade Bentwater students (children and grandchildren are welcome). The event will be held on Saturday, February 9, 2019 at the Bentwater Yacht Club with registration running from 12:30 p.m. to 1 p.m. and the program running from 1 p.m. to 4 p.m. IT S NOT TOO LATE TO SIGN-UP!! For additional details, see the Flyer attached to this Newsletter. We hope all your future employees/entrepreneurs will make plans to join us! BCA TO PROVIDE FLAGPOLES AT THE NEW POA BUILDING! Your BCA Board is very pleased to announce that the BCA will be providing funding for three (3) flagpoles that will be in front of the new POA building. The flagpoles will fly the American flag, the Texas flag and the Bentwater flag. BCA ANNOUNCES DATE FOR THE AUTO WASTE & ELECTRONICS RECYCLING EVENT! The date for the BCA s annual Auto Waste & Electronics Recycling Event has been set! The date is Saturday, March 2, The event will take place at the Bentwater Yacht Club right next to the Marina. The event will run from 10:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m., or until the trucks are full. Please note that there is a $10.00 charge for any televisions, computer monitors and Laptop computers that are dropped off. Only cash will be accepted and exact change will be most appreciated. There is no charge for any of the other accepted items. We encourage everyone to please carefully read the attached event Flyer for details as to what will be accepted. Please note that only those items listed on the attached flyer will be accepted. This event is open to everyone in our community. We also request that if you have any specific questions related to this event that those questions be directed to your BCA Board s at ccottrell@bentwatercivic.com. Please do not call the POA with questions about this event since this event is sponsored by your BCA.

2 Page 2 As a reminder and as noted in the January Newsletter, your BCA Board is working on finalizing dates for the other annual recycling events (paper shredding and paint and chemical recycling). We anticipate having the paper shredding event in April and the chemical and paint recycling event in October. Below are some short bios for John Crystal our Treasurer and Lynda Robinson our Membership Chair: John Crystal - Treasurer: John A. Crystal, Jr. has been a Bentwater resident since A skilled marksman and former police officer, John competes in IDPA and USPSA pistol competitions. Born in New York City, John s grandparents took him traveling the world when he was growing up. Since then, he has lived in the Orlando, Chicago and Houston areas. A businessman by profession, John owned an auto parts enterprise in Florida. After he sold it, he learned computer programming and wrote income tax software for The Tax Shop and provided technical support for Gateway Computers. In Chicago, John worked as a sales tax accountant for RSM McGladrey, World Color and Equity lifestyle Properties. A strong believer in community service, John served 17 years on the Florida Hospital Institutional Review Board reviewing experimental protocols of drugs, procedures and devices for human use. In addition, he served on the City of Longwood Board of Adjustment reviewing zoning variances. He has also served on numerous homeowners association boards as a director, president and treasurer in both Florida and

3 Page 3 Illinois. An Eagle Scout and Scoutmaster, John is also a graduate of the University of Denver in Colorado and holds an MBA from Rollins College in Winter Park, Fla. John and his wife, Barbara, have two adult sons, two grandchildren and two English Setters. Lynda Jo Robinson Membership Chair: Lynda and her husband, Robert, moved to Bentwater in Lynda retired in 2011 from the Lone Star College System after twenty-seven (27) years. She began her career as a Professor of Entrepreneurial Studies at Lone Star College-North Harris in the 1980 s, moving into the Administration area in the 1990 s and ending her career at the System Office in Institutional Reporting. Lynda is actively involved in the Bentwater Ladies Organization co-chairing the Newcomer Committee and coordinating the Bentwater Holiday Market for the past two (2) years. She is also an active member of the Assistance League of Montgomery County working on the Information Technology Committee. Lynda is also a member of the Bentwater American Cancer Society Committee. Lynda enjoys being active and strives to be involved in the community. She welcomes the opportunity to give back through the BCA. The Bentwater Civic Association and Bentwater Volunteer Families are sponsoring a first-time, free workshop (including refreshments) for 6 th to 12 th grade students of Bentwater (children and grandchildren welcome). The event will be held on Saturday, February 9, 2019 at the Bentwater Yacht Club with registration 12:30-1 p.m. and program from 1-4 p.m. A parent or grandparent wants their children to find happiness and success in life, and a very important factor which influences happiness and success is a career choice! For the student: Choosing a career is a critical decision that impacts your entire future. For the parent or grandparent: This is another way for you to offer your support and encouragement, so they find the best career fit. Each student will get the chance to converse with an expert in their preferred four (of eight) broad career fields which offer the greatest potential for growth in the next decade. We have lined up some great leaders to explain the opportunities and challenges they experienced and to provide individual guidance to students as they plan their education and career decisions. Students will rotate through four career field tables during the program. Table assignments are limited and first come, first serve. Each student is asked to register their first four preferred career fields (tables), and two back-ups by February 2. If you register and then cannot make it, please let Amy know so that another student may get their priority area. Register Today!

7 Bentwater Civic Association News Start out 2019 by cleaning out your home and garage! The Auto Waste and Electronic Recycling & Disposal Event will take place on March 2 nd at the Bentwater Yacht Club from 10 AM to 2 PM or until the trucks fill up. Bring your old televisions, computers, and old auto parts and waste (oil, batteries, etc.) to the Yacht Club. Bentwater Civic Association board members and young people from the Bentwater Volunteer Families will be there to assist you. Please note some items will have a fee associated with them.
