Royce celebrates his award night with Michael M and past District Governors Bernie and John. Rob Thomas and Pres Nom Glenn Smith did a great job with logistics for the big night. A great night was enjoyed by over 200 Rotarians and friends from all over Australia in celebration of the Royce Abbey Awards. With 10 new awardees on the night their was much exicitement and fellowship to be had. Key note speaker for the evening Past World President Bill Boyd told us how important recognition was to Rotarians especially the Royce Abbey Awards. Thanks go to all who helped make the evening such a success including Roger Leask, Colin Bell, Michael Mahoney, John Chadderton, Shirley Kukk, Glenn Smith and Rob Thomas.

2 HENRY RANDELL Our Newest Royce Abbey Awardee. Henry Randell is The Rotary Club of Essendon s newest Royce Abbey Awardee. Henry received his award at the Royce Abbey night held at Moonee Valley on Wednesday night and in True Henry fashion we got a song from Henry on receiving the award. Henry s son, Roger Priestley and Henry share in the excitement of the occasion. 3 Tough Times Hit Christmas Trailer Raffle Ray Landgren and Roger Priestley draw the Winning Ticket for the Christmas Trailer Raffle The Trailer Raffle draw was done at 1.30pm on Tuesday 2nd December under the watchful eyes of Ray Landgren, Alastair Fraser and Roger Priestley. This is the first time for 3 years that a Rotarian has won a prize. To all of those members who continually supply these prizes each year without question, the Club is deeply indebted to you for being so generous. Also a big thank you to those members who were able to supply items to fill the trailer and make it such a great 1st prize. Once again a special thank you to Michael Maloney and Bendigo Bank for covering the cost of the trailer (Approx $900). I cannot express enough thanks to the efforts of Henry Randell who undertook to do the selling roster, the drop off and pick up of the trailer each day and the housing of it in between selling days over the 8 week period, ably backed up by Richard Lawrence. Thank you both for a great effort guys. Also many thanks to Community chairman Grant Sheldon and the committee for their guidance, support and effort during that time. To all members who were able to give some time to help at the sales desk and were able to buy or sell those tickets allocated to you, thank you. Also to Michael Cariss for covering the big cost of printing the tickets once again this year. This has been a great club effort. Unfortunately the cash squeeze hit at the wrong time and many found it hard to part with their hard earned. The school and scouts who participate each year had other demands put on them with their respective parent bodies to do some fund raising also. Their contribution to the raffle was only $1250 this year ($2500 lasy year). With a big effort from Maria Kouppas and family at the Olive Festival ($1000) and the $1250 contributed from the school and scouts we have come up with a total of $5950 this year. 4 RAFFLE WINNER - This week : NO DRAW - NO WINNER SO WE JACKPOT FOR DEC 16 th. The Great Restaurant Game The Rotary Club of Essendon s contribution to the Polio Plus final challenge is now reaching it s climax with an exciting launch of the Great Restaurant Game. Polio Plus project was started by Royce Abbey in his year as RI President, the aim now is to complete this project. The Rotary Club of Essendon will receive a $10,000 private donation for the Polio Plus project subject to the RCE matching this amount. So far the RCE has been unable to match this amount. The RCE International Committee has decided to organise The GRG of 200 tickets at $50 a ticket with 30 prizes of dinner for two people at a variety of Local and City Restaurants. We are looking for donations from at least 30 restaurants; we will need your help to do this. Can you approach any restaurants and ask if they can contribute a dinner for two, if they agree please contact the GRG coordinator Veronica O Sullivan Mob BBQ Sausage Sizzle at Carols by Candlelight We will be serving sausages at MVCC Carols By Candlelight in Queens Park Sunday 14/12 and require your assistance: 4.30pm 5.00pm: 4 people to help set up 5.00pm 7.00pm: 5 people to cook/serve 7.00pm 9.00pm: 5 people to cook/serve 9.00pm 9.30pm: 4 people to clean up Your assistance is required and greatly appreciated for this worthy cause and evening of fellowship. 5 Philipines Container still needs Helpers Our container for the Philippines needs to be ready to go by next weekend.
